prepare to be surprised!
Its quite old, so dont expect current slickness of production.
And be prepared for some midi file soundtrack.
but an amazing movie, nonetheless.
where did you get hold of this?
All i could get a was a very bad conversion from a VHS.

Watched Taken

The movie is about an ex-spy father in pursuit of finding her daughter who is kidnapped & would be sold in flesh trade. He has 96 hours to go before she becomes untraceable.

I wont tell much as many have reported this movie, Liam Neeson gave a brilliant performance.

Its a great movie to watch but I did find a few things missing in narration, like how did they manage to come back to US after all the mess. Also His daughter seems normal when he rescues her (as in she recognizes him & starts crying) while she was out of her senses a few minutes ago.

4.5/5

Me too liked this movie. Liam Neeson kicks some serious butt in this . Predictable story line, though, and not too many twists and turns. Great one time watch.

I saw it around 6 months back, and made my teen-aged daughter watch it with her friends so that they know how things can go wrong.

I agree it is a fabulous pic, but few parts were Bollywood type, like the questions you have posed. I rate it as 4/5.

I think I posted a review of it long back.

Edit: Yikes, I saw it in Sep 2009 and rated it as 4.5. Sorry, memory fades with time.

Watched the movie a couple of times. Good watch, especially Liam Neeson's acting. Gotta feel bad for the guy. He's been in some amazing movies in lead roles, but has never got an Oscar (except for the Oskar he played )

Watched this movie "The Way Back"
*ing Dracon Brugus, Ed Harris and Colin Farrell

Set in 1939, it is the story of a group of men who escape from a camp in Russia, with intentions of crossing over to China. They reach China only to realize that Communism has spread till there as well, so they keep going south, until the survivors finally reach India. The movie portrays the hardships they faced very beautifully.
Very good watch.

4.5/5.

I watched Hangover only recently! not Hangover 2 but Hangover! Bt boy did I enjoy it? I have never laughed so much watching a movie in a very long time. Amazing screenplay and witty dialogues were super entertaining. The character of Alan was a laugh riot! His attitude, how he finds funny things serious and serious things funny, his gay-ish behaviour all made me laugh into splits Would Hangover 2 be as funny too? Any other funny movies like this guys?

This is one of my favorite movies and is a perfect example of laugh riot comedy intertwined with emotions. I own a DVD of this movie

For a change, In this movie, I liked John Candy more than SM

I would give it a 4/5

re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

Watched Charlie Wilson's War

The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)-cww.jpg

The movie is based on the true story of Congressman Charlie Wilson (Tom Hanks) on his efforts to uproot Russian control over Afghanistan during the 80s. He achieves this by facilitating the Govt efforts to train and arm Mujahideen resistance fighters to fight in the Soviet war in Afghanistan which began in 1979.

Great acting by all, Julia Roberts is kind of wasted but then this wasn't the first movie where I thought so. The movie gives some great insights about how the U.S. funding along with Arab world for Afghanistan which started at 5 million goes upto 1 Billion by the end of the Soviet War.

While there is interesting bit of information a lot of details have been left out, also the movie starts in a slow pace making us understand each of the characters but then is rushed at the end, I wouldn't have mind if the movie was 3 hours long with good details & narration.

3/5

re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

Green Lantern - It was luckily not as cartoonish as I thought it was going to be, but unfortunately it wasn't as epic as well. But it was fun and exciting and that was all I was looking for. Expected a slightly more grand-scale, effects-laden, epic GL but it felt a bit flat in the end.

Ryan Reynolds was his usual self but needed some support from his fellow cast. Blake Lively looked gorgeous and that was about it.

Highlight of the film - the Abin Sur scene and Sinestro.

* * * stars.

Pearl Harbor
- Romance in the times of WWII, more specifically during the famous Pearl Harbor bombing by the Japanese.

Even at the film's length at 2 hrs and 55 mins, it felt that director Michael Bay was rushing things more than once, as if he had a lot to narrate/show and was running out of time. The specific bombing scenes were nicely done, and it was touching to see so many Marines lose their lives, specially those who were trapped inside the sinking ships and were pounding on the walls till their last painful breaths. Easily the highlight of the entire film.

The romantic parallel story was okay, albeit having a few eye-rolling twists. Alec Baldwin and Cuba Gooding Jr were very good, with the 3 leads doing a competent job. The best performance came from Jon Voight as Roosevelt, and he proved his mettle as one of the best in the business in his role.

* * * stars.

Dr. No - Even though Connery wasn't the first choice to be Bond (Ian Fleming wanted David Niven), it's almost impossible to imagine any one else as the master spy. The trademark line by which Bond introduces himself at the casino can only be delivered by Connery in his inimitable style, and no one else.

The film has a lot of similarities to a Philip Marlowe spy-thriller, although the script writers managed to give Bond his own persona which shines through till the end. The now (in)famous scene of Ursula Andress coming out of the sea is a surefire high point of this first Bond film, but it belongs completely to Connery. A great nostalgic watch.

And so the nightly Bond-a-thon starts!

* * * ½ stars.

Watched this movie. Its a simple story of a teenager given a task to deliver a car from one city to another and due to car conking out on highway, he stops enroute in a small town for a poker game and gets into an altercation ( forced by the opposite member) with unpleasant and surprising outcome.

Patrick Demsey acted really well. Initially, he is the confused and endearing youth and as movie progress changes into a focused and matured individual with plenty of courage to boot.

Oh god! Kelly Preston is so so so beautiful

Its an early 90's movie with plenty of action and twists and turns that will keep you glued. After a long time enjoyed a flick so much.

I'd like to go a bit overboard in my rating...5/5

P.S: Next in Line " Yes Man" starring Jim Carrey....Reviews please?

It's OK. I would give it 2/5, watchable once, but nothing special. I like Zooey Deschanel & hence watched it.

By the way, looks like Bigflix is closing most of the stores - it's going to a delivery only model except for a few franchise
stores. This is mostly good because now they have more stock for delivery - there are a lot of movies which are in my queue but are showing "Long Wait" for months. They haven't still transferred the stock from the closed stores to delivery, I think.
Also there are many movies which show as available in Bombay & let me queue it but show up as "Red" in my queue (in the actual queue, not the saved list) because they are available in Bombay but not for delivery - hopefully this stock will come for delivery now.

And Inception is still not available on Bigflix for delivery - been months since the movie was released on DVD - It's available only in Bigflix Chandigarh for delivery. It's available in a couple of stores also, but not for delivery.

I agree that most of the times the movie is a letdown after a very compelling book, but then book as a medium itself is so involving that it is hard to beat.
Godfather is one of the exceptions for me atleast where the movie is not only on par with the book (as it follows in detail) but even surpasses it at times.

Bourne is a different matter as well. The films are so different from the books that I enjoy them on their own as films (with only the character names being same and nothing else)
