Padmavat: 2.5/5

Lame movie with fantastic visuals. Typical bollywood I guess. Shahid and Deepika stare at each other a lot, Ranvir did a good job but I feel the character was written as way over the top (to leave no doubt that he is the 'bad' guy). And yes, the story could have been much better. The actual epic poem on which it is based, apparently had much more to it than what is depicted in the movie, and I think they could've leveraged that more.

Pari

"It'll leave you with nightmares for days.", said one of the critics. Oh no, that's not true. It's just another attempt but with a 'not so common' story line. The movie is slow, very few scares and boring. Some even compared this with Bhoot . Avoid it. I would give 1 star for Anushka's acting.

Re: The Hindi Movies Thread

Watched Qarib Qarib Singlle over the weekend.

A fine first half, but a sloppy, predictable and all-over-the-place second half. If you want a modest family entertainer over a lazy day, this makes for a decent option.

Watched Raid today.

Film is based on true story of Income tax raids conducted in 1980s. Excellent acting by Saurabh Shukla and Ajay Devgn in that order.

Re: The Hindi Movies Thread

Watched 102 Not Out last night.

A movie with not much of an agenda or story, just a snapshot of regular lives with a little twist. Heart-warming and a pleasant watch, one for the entire family.

Charming acting by both Rishi Kapoor and Amitabh Bachchan, and the side-kick.

Watched Raazi last night.

What.A.Movie. Blown away by how well it was conceptualized and translated on the screen. No over-the-top dramatism, no cliches, no fluffy patriotism. Keeps you involved in the movie till the very end.

Terrific acting by everyone in the movie; especially Alia Bhatt, who I believe is fast growing into one of our finest actors, Jaideep Ahlawat and Vicky Kaushal.

Watched Raazi today. Excellent acting by Alia Bhatt and Jaideep. Do not expect masala spy thriller from Raazi which it is not. A well paced story by Meghana Gulzar and a nice hummable track by Arjit Singh.

Rating : 4 /5

My parents are just back after watching Raazi. They say it is excellent and Alia Bhatt is definitely going to win awards for this one.

I think these kind of movies are best watched on TV instead of specially going to the theatre. At least that's my opinion after seeing Piku.

Was waiting for reviews of this one. Thanks! Will watch. With Hindi movies, I only trust BHPian reviews. All the media reviews suck & are misleading. We don't have the reliability that Rotten Tomatoes & IMDB offer for international movies.

True; I rarely go to the movies (perhaps 3-4 times/year). Given how soon even the successful movies are on Prime/Netflix, I prefer watching them at home. Went in for this one as an "outing"

Re: The Hindi Movies Thread

Just back after watching Raazi.

Rating = 4.5 stars

The move is reasonably fast paced, very nicely directed, good story and screenplay and almost perfect acting. Alia Bhatt is in the Madhuri / Sridevi category of acting - much much better than all her compatriots. The only person who I think could have done better was her trainer. Nevertheless, definitely a must watch.

PS: Whoever likes this movie should catch hold of the spy drama "The Americans". It's a TV series on spying in the cold war era.

Re: The Hindi Movies Thread

Just watched Bhavesh Joshi

Having mixed feelings on this one. Lot of inspiration from Dark Knight and the music score. Its very realistic movie, in terms of location and vigilantism. People from Mumbai background will be able to relate more.

It could have been great movie! I am just not sure what is it missing.

Re: The Hindi Movies Thread

Saw Raazi yesterday. Would rate it as 'good' but not 'great'. Worth a watch once and will give it 3.5 / 5 stars.

I've always been a big fan of Alia Bhatt and am happy to see her maturing as an actor.

The movie is apparently inspired by a true story. Whoever that woman was, she sure had guts to infiltrate a house in Pakistan like that.
