In one of the interviews the lead actor Tovino did talk about this. He said, the villan's plot had a lot of potential and depth and that he was tempted to take it, but then a small part inside him told that if this movie is hit, there is going to be a part 2 and he wanted to be part of it.

I liked the movie Minnal Murali (Malayalam), was not as funny as the director Basil's earlier movie Godha, but definitely worth a watch, for the superhero angle. I would rate it 3.5/5.

Re: The Regional movies thread!

I loved Minnal Murali and the way the story arc of the villain unfolded. For any superhero movie, this is very crucial as we've come to see from the hollywood superhero movies. Even the special effects were quite nicely done. I can see potential sequels for this one.

4/5

Watched Minnal Murali. Super movie 👏

The last romantic scene of Shibu & Usha which only lasted few minutes was the highlight of the movie for me. 💔

Re: The Regional movies thread!

Minnal Murali: My thoughts on this movie are similar to those already expressed here. I expected a funnier movie based on Basil Joseph's earlier movies and the Netflix teasers. I too felt that some more time could have been spent on the character arc of the hero. I think there was potential for some funny scenes where the hero tries to come to terms with the powers he received, or him trying them out just to amuse himself.

However, overall, I think the movie is definitely worth a watch.

I ended up watching it twice, second time without the expectations of it being a comedy caper, and it was more satisfying.

The cast has done a very good job, especially the villain.

I think for a superhero movie it may be required to place it in an imaginary world, a "Minnal Cinematic Universe" Jokes apart, references to "Desom" (where Kunjiramayanam takes place) can be seen in Basil's other movies. For eg: in Godha there is a reference to a cricket match with "Danger Boys" from Desom and in Kunjiramayanam we can see Vineeth and others in a song sequence (Thumbapenne) with yellow t-shirts with "Danger Boys" printed on them. In Minnal Murali, the bus in which the hero and villain fight is going to Desom. Basil appears in a shot in the movie where that character seems to be speaking about Desom.

Marakkar: Amazon Prime (Malayalam)

An Okay watch but overall disapointed. Could have been a very good match if Priyadarsan did not pick favourites to play the characters. Lot of miscasts the biggest one being none other than Mohanlal himself.

The effects and all are good, however I cant help but ignore the fact that this is an oportunity lost.

Re: The Regional movies thread!

In between the hype and success around Minnal Murali(watched it and loved it) another small Malayalam film came out on Sony Liv.

Madhuram-Sony Liv- Joju George, Arjun Ashokan, Indrans, Shruti Ramachandra, Nikhila Vimal: Another 'slice of life' film focusing on relationships. The setting is interesting. All the characters are bystanders for near and dear ones hospitalized and they come together and bond in the bystander hall. It is a 2 hr movie, but loses steam after about 1.30 hours and then drags on for 30 min to its conclusion. Everyone is nice and there are no villains. What makes the movie watchable is some very good performance led by Joju George. Not used to seeing Joju as a hopelessly in love romantic guy, but he pulls it off superbly ably supported by Shruti Ramachandra. Rest of the cast also do well due to which the movie is mostly watchable. Rating 3/5

Movie: Bhajarangi 2
OTT: Zee 5
Rating: -1
Managed to see till it showed Interval Sign and switched off the TV
I just could not connect with the movie at all. If anyone managed to see the full movie they can comment if there was any saving grace in second half.

Re: The Regional movies thread!

Maanadu:Tamil: Sony Liv- Simbu, SJ Suryah and Kalyani Priyadarshan.

Reviews of them movie when released in theaters were very good and was not disappointed. It is a time loop thriller- Saying any more would create spoilers. Although such movies are probably common especially in Hollywood, the triggers for the time loop and then the subtle adjustments made for each of the loops to take the story ahead is pretty interesting and ensures the film does not get boring. Well executed by Venkat Prabhu

Rating: 3.5/5

On a side note, Sony Liv is not giving 5.1 audio on the Fire Stick 4K. Not able to figure out why. Anyone else has a similar set up?

Re: The Regional movies thread!

Maanaad - Sony Liv (Tamizh)

Heard good reviews of this one outside the forum as well. After watching the movie, I must say that I am quite satisfied. When I read of the theme, I expected it to be a complicated confusing movie with slow pace. Was pleasantly surprised to see it was fast moving and quite interesting at all times.

If I have to nit pick, some sequences in second half and towards the end could have been better. But overall a very good one time watch. Surely recomended.

I was planning to see the movie, but your review saved me the hassle and the time. Planning to see Kotigobba 3, any reviews from people here of the movie. Watching it only for Kiccha Sudeep.

I was really disappointed with the bad direction/screenplay - colossal waste of money. In fact I enjoyed the pre-release event more where Shivaraj, Puneeth and Yash came on stage together to promote the movie.

Re: The Regional movies thread!

Watched 2 movies this week - Marikar and Bheemente Vazhi

Marikar - 2.5/5

Firstly, the movie was not really that bad. Maybe all those negative reviews made me watch with zero expectation. The initial build up was a little dragging. Considering the fact that Marikars younger years would have been 100% imagination of the movie makers, they could have made it more engaging and dramatic. Post the interval, I felt it got better as that was the actual core story. As noted by almost all, a story that had a great possibility in various regards. But destroyed entirely by the really poor screenplay, casting etc.

Post Bahubali, there is always a minimum expectation for movies of similar genre and viewers cannot be just given some half baked stuff relying on a super star like Mohanlal. The sets were magnificent and as always Sabu Cyril just rocked it. However, considering this is happening in Kerala, am sure the landscape should have had more greenery and forests, rather than the dry western movie desert landscapes or the streets/dressing having a persian feel etc. Made me think of Pazhassi Raja, where this Kerala landscape was captured beautifully and hence gave a totally different visual ambience to the movie

Bheemente Vazhi - 1/5

Now this was a movie that turned out to be a real disaster. The way Chakochan was promoting the movie via his social media channels as a super hit , made me think the movie was a laugh riot or atleast something in-line with his simple village guy movies like Elsamma Enna Aankutty or Kochuouvva Paulo Ayyappa Coelho etc. But within 10 mins into the movie, it was clear what the name of the movie meant and what the story was going to be. Plus some really unexpected scenes from a Kunchako movie. Now some may say, in todays times with kids exposed to a wide array of western movies and series on OTT, its not a big deal. But still a Kunchako movie is always considered as a totally safe family watch and now that is lost.

Re: The Regional movies thread!

Keshu ee veedinte nadhan (Malayalam) - Disney+ hotstar - 3.5/5

Whatever hatred may be there around Dileep on his personal front, you simply cannot ignore his versatile talent. This movie is one among that where you see fun moments that the old school comedians brings in and Dileep is apt for it and I wonder if there are any other actors to take up such roles. While some of the new gen movies tries hard to bring in comedy moments, here is to Dileep who brings it with him naturally.

Not a great story line as such, but it is those little fun moments and Dileep's performance that can be watched without getting bored. Just an entertainer.

In real life also, in most cases, the villain acts as a catalyst for the hero to rise to heights s/he is capable of.
