How true.
There is this thing with underdogs. People see themselves in such people and gives unconditional support. It's a dream for most heros to get mass following. In kannada, such craze is attained by just 2 present day actors. YASH and Darshan. If you see, both are from some what middle class background. They didnt had god-fathers or family banners to launch them. Yash used to do acting is kannada tv serials. He tried his luck in movies and clicked.
Also the dearth of quality bollywood movies is also helping Telgu/Tamil/kannada movies to go pan india.
I am watching KGF-2 tomorrow. Hope it will be entertaining.

Re: The Regional movies thread!

Saw KGF 2. Wow, Just wow ! Kept saying to myself that this movie is worth the ticket money I spent & wouldn't mind catching it again in the theatres. Yes, this is how the movie should be watched. In an excellent theatre with high quality sound system. The movie wholeheartedly belongs to the mass genre that KGF 1 lived by. And Yash has terrific screen presence, swag and style. This movie is definitely worth a watch.

One small minute error I noticed is the presence of an A380 which is terribly misplaced since the movie takes place before the 90's.But then unless one is an aviation geek this not a concern. Even the great Scorsese accidently used a 747 in Goodfellas.

Not sure if this is directly adressed, but there is a line regarding nepotism by Rocky Bhai, that too in style

Totally concur to this! I too watched this yesterday and what a show!! There are very few movies which carry the legacy of Part 1. This is one of them.

This is a must watch in THEATRES only, the experience is different. Though I had watched this in a multiplex, I wonder what would be the scene in the ‘local’ single screen theatres, especially in the South!

Beast - Tamil - 2/5 - Theatre

Here is the Tamil equivalent of Malayalam Mohanlal starrer "Aarattu". Very similar theme, absolutely no logic, defying physics, doing impossible. While Mohanlal was an undercover agent in Aarattu, here Vijay is an ex-RAW agent doing impossible. Just sit back and enjoy! 2 stars for nice BGM and well choreographed Halamithi Habibo and for theatre experience. Would have to be 0 if on mini screen.

KGF Chapter 2 - 5/5

An experience to be had on the big screen, didn't have much expectation from the movie since sequels have mostly disappointed me but KGF dispelled that for me and in style. The scale is much larger than the first part and each scene is made to wow the audience. The BGM and cinematography are just amazing. Overall the movie is much better than any other Indian language movie that I have seen recently. This one is going to win big at the box-office.

No, you wont connect. Catch Part 1 on Prime, and then head to the theatres

It took a couple of views to keep track of all the villains in KGF-1. So would be better to view the first before seeing the second one.

Btw, going to see it tomorrow.

As said, No. And even don't miss the dialogues or any scenes too in it. You won't get it if you do so. We too were just prepping ourselves last night by watching it before heading for II.

Some channels are also showing KGF1 these days as a refresher.

KGF Ch2
Last night just about managed to catch the 11.30pm show in my cow belt multiplex. It is sold out solid thro most of next week.

South has upped the game beyond the capability of the current lot of Bollywood moviemakers. They need to rejig their skills in all departments if they wish to match up.

Re: The Regional movies thread!

At the cost of sounding lame and being dismissed as not intelligent enough to understand a once in a lifetime movie, I would say that KGF is something that - for me - couldn't justify the hype or the box office collection.

It was too violent and dark (literally too) for my taste. The hero Yash is one of the few thinking heroes of Sandalwood and therefore when he makes a movie, one tends to believe that there should be some serious stuff in there. Sadly, for me, KGF just didn't click.

Although I hope KGF 2 will be different, I am skeptical if it will be.

There was a time when Real Star Upendra's movies ruled the roost: one particular example even carried a disclaimer - Only for the Intelligent (ಬುದ್ಧಿವಂತರಿಗೆ ಮಾತ್ರ). Even then, like now, my grey cells weren't perhaps really up to the task of appreciating the masterpieces of celluloid geniuses.

James was a big disappointment, a lost opportunity to make one good movie for Punit Rajkumar. I watched it on Sony Liv and felt that the director did not know the basics of making a movie.

Ditto here. When KGF 1 was released and my close family members were praising the film to no end, wife insisted we watch the movie on big screen. It was literally a torture for us to watch the movie till the end. Quentin Tarantino neo-noir style movies are dark but I watch them and like them. But, for me, KGF like movies are an assault on ear drums.

Watched the trailer - the set looks good though. Will not make the mistake of watching.

Re: The Regional movies thread!

When KGF1 released and subsequently came on OTT, I started watching after hearing all the rave reviews and could not watch it past 30 min. Was too dark and violent for me. Now that KGF2 released and was getting rave reviews again, I decided to watch KGF1 again. This time I did watch it through and did not hate it. Felt it was fantastically made and was a pretty good watch. Maybe my sensibilities have changed.

While I don't intend to watch KGF2 in theaters, I will watch it on OTT. Whatever my personal opinion, huge credit to the makers for making a film, that too a regional language one, that is creating waves all across India. Pretty much unprecedented.

I had to stay up late yesterday and watched James and KGF1 and Aadavallu Meeku Joharlu one after another. James was quite sad (at best 2/5), AMJ mediocre (at best 3/5) and KGF1 too dark for me (again 3/5) although it had some interesting bits.
