Re: The Regional movies thread!

Sapta Sagaradaache Yello - Side A (Kannada)

I was looking forward to this movie and watched this yesterday. I had expected intensity from a Hemanth movie and it surely was and it was way more intense that my expectations.

Rukmini and Rakshit make the perfect match and I guess a lot of people relate to their characters of Priya and Manu respectively. A simple real-world story that moves at a real-life pace showing all the details and giving watchers a lot of time to remember similar things in their life.

One kind of moviegoers expect an escape from their real world problems while the other kind like to watch, mirror, realise, introspect, and learn. This is not the latter kind of people.

While Rukmini has delivered a stellar performance, the Mangaluru kannada hasn't come out so well. Same thing for Rakshit...While I love him for this experiments, genres, acting and others...I'm not a fan of the way he speaks in a floating, unclear way. The other supporting cast of Achyut kumar, Pavitra, Avinash, Ramesh Indira, Sharath Lohitashwa are at their usual best.

I just fell in love with the cinematography. That's the hero of the movie in my opinion. Each and every frame is so carefully and beautifully shot. Be it the handloom, be it the way the glue from a bindi on the mirror is focused, be it the half face of the Priya inside a BMTC bus or how the falling puffed rice turning into a fist landing a blow...the amazing frames have stayed with me even after the movie.

The Side-A of this cassette ended with a trailer of what's in store on the other side. Expect nothing more than more intensity, more emotions and more beautiful frames.

I belong to the second kind of movie person and hence I'd rate it 4 out of 5.

Well, the director can justify that because she leaves Mangaluru at a very young age and has settled down in Bengaluru .

Jailer (Tamil)

Streaming: Amazon

For the first 40 mins of the movie I was glad that Rajni sir is acting well for a change and the film plot kept me glued. But then the movie was stretched unnecessarily like an elastic and suddenly there were too many characters in the movie which took the sheen off the story. Don't understand why Shivraj Kumar, Jackie Shroff and Mohanlal were there in the film, agreed Nelson created a coup with getting all these mega stars in one frame but wasn't needed for the plot. Tamannah should see her role in the movie and think about it. Rajni sir's swag actually saved the movie. One time watch for sure.

Achar and Co- Kannada- Prime

Not sure how I missed this earlier. A very nice slice of life movie of a journey of a family from the 60s to the 70s in Bangalore subtly touching upon a lot of relevant topics. Nicely shot, well acted and humerous. Started watching just as a filler for some time and ended up watching the whole movie.

I checked the trailer just to see if they got the visuals right. Reproducing 70s looks (houses, dress sense, roads) could be very challenging in today's India. Looks like they pulled it off. Doing a 15th century movie will be easier because nobody will know how they looked then. But too many of us remember the 70s.

Will check out the whole movie.

Jailer (Prime)

Being not much of a fan of his recent movies, I watched it with less expectation and surprisingly it was a pretty ok movie. Violent to the core, but attaching comedic elements to the violence and gore either lightens it or trivializes the act.

First half was good but as ghodlur said, it starts to stretch and in that it loses steam a bit.

Blast Mohan was hilarious with his dead pan acting! The actress who played the daughter in law seemed to be a really good actress.

But overall, one heck of a Rajini movie and good to see him act his age.

Jawan - 1/5

Not sure to post this here or on Hindi Movies thread. I thought this was basically a Tamil film due to Nayan Thara, Director & Vijay S. But it turned out to be a blunder watching SRK in Tamil. The whole set up was set for a Hindi film.

While the movie has nice visuals, slow motions etc, but lacking anything beyond that. Trying to convey some messages but goes down hill. Tried to arouse some emotions but fails. It was basically an "avial" of things and bores you to core. Characters comes from now where and disappears without creating any impact. Poor direction and script all in all.

Jailer

I watched it first in theater and then repeated it again on Prime. For me, a Rajnikant film is all about Swag. And this movie has loads of it. Loved all the cameos although they do nothing to the story. But hey we don't watch a Rajni movie for it's story right!!

Second half was a bit stretched but all in all a masala entertainer.

That’s a characteristic trait of a dakshina kannada guy when he’s close with someone whom he regards deeply for. I have had a couple of friends from that region and it seems like they never talk much at first, but when they open up, that is the way they’ve been and also the style of speaking was in line with Rakshit speaking Tulu or Bengaluru kannada in the first half of Kirik Party. It was irritating for me too at first as it sounds exactly as you described, but that’s just how they are. He plays a young guy in love anyway so it’s a match.

Let me correct you there - The whole set up was set for a SRK film. And his fans are in Bollywood so it has to be a Hindi film. With the theatrics that go with it. Irrespective if the rest of the cast is entirely from the south.

Same logic applies in the reverse for a Rajnikanth movie in Tamil. Or Chiranjeevi in Telegu. And so on for all mega-actors

P.s.Last SRK movie I watched in the theatre was I guess Chak De India. Don't think I can stomach one any more!

The first 15 mins were brilliant I should say, then it was a downhill ride. Overacting to the highest order.

For horror fans, watch the the first 15-20 mins, and when Vasanth Ravi starts his show, you can stop it. I did the same. Skipped till the end.

Rating - 1/5 (Can skip).

BTW, highly recommend web series - MENAKA (Malayalam). Details shared in "TV/Streaming shows thread.

Re: The Regional movies thread!

RDX (Malayalam):

I found the movie entertaining. There's nothing new in terms of the story, but the packaging is good. The movie is 2.5 hours in duration, but there were no dull moments. We started watching it after midnight, and I thought we'll watch maybe 20-30 minutes, but we stayed up and finished it. The leads have done a good job. The fight sequences are choreographed well. Although there are many fights, there's not much blood and gore.

Maybe, the earlier fights set the bar high, so I didn't find the climax fight sequence very impressive.

Re: The Regional movies thread!

Saw the movie "Jailer" on Amazon Prime. Man,what an amazing screen presence of Rajini. Feel in love with his aura once again. He looks very handsome after a long time. The movie needs to be watched in theatre for sure.

Special mention on Anirudh's BGM and songs. Really sets the mood for all the scenes(including shivanna's entry). Nelson's direction has improved vastly compared to Beast.

Rajini son's acting was mostly with deadpan face. Not sure if it was intentional or not.

Shivarajkumar would have looked awesome if he had brought in his signature "Long".

The main villain acting was top notch. Jackie Shroff is wasted.

I maybe nitpicking but they could have got the kannada dialogues correct, considering that many in movie team know Kannada and it's a South Indian language.

Overall it's a festival for Rajinikanth fans

Sapta saagaradache ello. (Kannada)

I am not sure why, I always had a pull to watch this movie in the theatre. Planned for an evening, but couldn't make it, lost money.
But after a days, the pull came back, felt like I am missing something out. I decided to watch it alone on a weekday evening, as none of my contacts were available.

I am glad I stuck to my gut and watched it, as it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. I knew I could trust Rakshit for a good cinematic experience.

Loved the simpleness of the movie, loved the pacing, loved the picturization, loved the cinematography. I was engaged throughout the movie.

Cant wait for Side-B, and how Manu takes his revenge.
