Re: The Regional movies thread!

I tried to see Timepass, Marathi movie running in theaters. Got terribly bored. Wonder how come it is such big a hit!

Duniyadaari too was boring for first 15-20 mins, but later it gripped on. Here the movie drabs on and on, and you have to suffer the horrible closeups of ugly actors. Props to the director to be able to find so many ugly characters!

Ketki was good, so was Urmila, but the boys are horrible to bear for 2 hours. The slow motion parts showing the development of love really get on your nerves.

EDIT: I watched first half hour of Lucia and really liked it. As stated above, it is beyond language, and the direction style is curious. I hope someday I get to watch it fully.

Memories (മെമ്മറീസ്)

Watched "Memories" Malayalam movie. Loved the opening scene with the song "Memories never die". Though the movie didn't carry on with the same style, it's worth a watch. I do NOT think I would watch the movie once again, but would definitely watch the opening shot multiple times!!

Rating :: 3/5

Mumbai Police - 8/10

Good suspense thriller and good all-round performances from Prithviraj and Rahman. This was delayed for a long long time.

Going for a second round of Drishyam tonight since parents haven't seen it. Had to book the tickets online since the shows are still running almost housefull. I only wish I could erase my memories associated with the movie.

Re: The Regional movies thread!

Drishyam - A very good movie. All the actors did justice to their roles to make it a success. The climax bring a smile on your face.

Ayalum Njanum Thammil :: A brilliant movie. I think I have seen a really good movie after a long long time. Prathap Pothen rocks!

North 24 Katham (നോര്*ത് 24 കാതം)

A very nice movie. Good pace. Fahad Fasil lets out another brilliant performance.

Loved the bit by Mukundan as the SI too. This movie really takes a dig at Kerala's widely celebrated "national holiday" called Hartals. It did show the pain common man goes thru this sudden strikes.

Kind of feel good about the movies churned out last year in the Malayalam Industry. All these slowdowns do NOT affect the industry if they continue to make good movies.

Re: The Regional movies thread!

After reading so many reviews here for Lucia(Kannada) I decided to watch this movie and was completely blown away. Even though the idea is kinda inspired the take on the movie is completely original.

Hats off to the director/story and screenplay. Even the songs were nicely placed and at no time I found it boring. This movie completely breaks language barriers.

The lead actor made amazing justice to the character and the climax was awesome. A must watch for someone who appreciates movie as an art. I am really tired of Bollywood these days and will never see any movie of the trio khans until they become sensible.

P.S. I am Maharashtrian and had never seen a regional movie before ( other than Marathi) and can vouch for this movie. Great job pawan kumar.

Re: The Regional movies thread!

Wachted the movie 1983 with a dozen friends and we all had a great time. Its all about the life of a guy who grow up in a vilage with a passion for cricket. The movie starts from 1983 when India won the world cup and ends in 2013, when Sachin retires!! Photographer turned director Abrid Shine has made an impressive debut. First half was superb with realistic humour and romance. Second half is predictable and a bit slow. Nivin Pauly has matured as an actor. Songs and background score was also worth mentioning. Its a must watch for all cricket lovers; Even if you dont have a thing for the game, this one's a good watch.

My Rating- 8/10

Re: The Regional movies thread!

Watched "1 Nenokkadine", a recent Telugu film.

A very fresh story and screen play. This film took Tollywood film industry to another new level. I guess that many stars of TFI would be searching for fresh stories like this now.

Editing, Screenplay and Cast of this movie easily resembles a Hollywood film.

Now wonder its rated 9.2 on IMDb
