Re: The Regional movies thread!

Watched a couple of tamil movies over the last 2 weeks

96: Just a very basic love story with some amazing screenplay & acting. Background music elevates the effect and on the whole its an amazing watch. Vijay Sethupathi is such a pleasure to watch and just seems to be going from strength to strength.

Rating: 4.5/5

Pariyerum Perumal: Mari selvaraj has put together a very good movie that focuses on the ills of cast issues without over dramatization or excessive violence. A good watch if you are on the lookout for something that is very different from mainstream movies.

Rating: 4/5

NOTA

Just saw that it is available on Amazon Prime.
Is it worth watching.
The wikipage makes it seem like "Bharat Ane Nenu"
An accidental chief minister and the usual drama.

Watched 96 and my god, what a drag it was! Could have finished the movie in 30minutes instead of taking 2.5hrs.

It would have been good as a short film instead of a full length feature film.

+1

I thought it was only me and my wife who felt the same way
It's a better realistic Tamil movie for sure but not worth of 2.5 hrs

Cheers!

My wife kept prodding me awake and asked if we could leave after the 1.5hr mark. Told her we paid for it, might as well watch it till the end

And same movie was shown in a regional channel the next day as a special for Deepavali! Could have saved some money and had the power to just change channels. Heh Heh

I loved it; and my wife who normally don’t sit through movies was completely glued as well

On a side note, Sun TV literally killed off the theatre run of the movie

Watched Darama (Malayalam, Mohan Lal) today. Avoidable. Nothing worth remembering.

Re: The Regional movies thread!

The Vijay craze in Kerala seems to have reached new heights. Just came to my home town and out of 9 theaters 6 are playing Sarkar all shows.

Or maybe a marketing and distribution hype.

Re: The Regional movies thread!

96 (Tamil) - A movie that I loved after a long time. Very slow movie but very well directed and nice performance by all the actors. Not the typical masala movie.

Sarkar (Tamil) - Its better than his previous movie Mersal and could have been much better if the agenda was not to show Vijay's interest towards politics.Too much of violence and not so great songs. Not comparable to Kathi or Thuppaki.

Re: The Regional movies thread!

Sarkar - worth a watch given today's general state of public affairs in the country and what the common man goes through. The storyline can easily be guessed within the first 30 minutes.

I probably felt this way (worth a watch) since I haven't watched any of the Vijay movies in the last few years and also since it was the first ever Vijay movie I watched at a theatre! To add to this, I did not follow or read anything about the movie so had absolutely no idea about the storyline, just watched the movie on whim

Re: The Regional movies thread!

Watched the Marathi move, Ani.. Dr. Kashinath Ghanekar yesterday.

It is based on the theatre artist, considered to be the first superstar of Marathi theatre. Terrific acting by Subodh Bhave and the entire cast.

5/5

Re: The Regional movies thread!

Watched 96 and Ratchasan (tamil) movies last week.

96 - a simple love story that relies on the nostalgia to deliver success. The BGM and music were the highlights and so was the direction. I loved this movie - my rating 4/5

Ratchasan - This was a surprise package!! A well solid crime thriller story, that keeps you glued to the edge of the seat!! Gibran's BGM adds to the suspense, even though I felt it was copied or inspired from Interstellar/ Dark Knight rises. The plot does have its flaws, but the direction, screenplay and the actor's performance overcomes it. If I have to nitpick, the makeup of the killer could have been improved - my rating - a solid 5/5
