Yes, I watched this and loved the movie. None of my friends liked it. But tbh, I don't know why they hyped up Andrea's performance. I didn't think there was much to it. But Dhanush - man, he can play a role quite well.

Padi padi leche manasu (Telugu) 1.5/5
A telugu plot set in Kolkata with unnecessary stupid twists and turns over 3 hours. The Hero has no other job but roam ecerywhere behind the heroine. It has shades of another stupid movie Arjun Reddy. Wasted my time last weekend.

Vada Chennai (Tamil) 2/5
Below average movie, good acting by Dhanush as usual. But nothing much in it other than that. The same old beaten-to-death robin hood movie plot. Old wine in a new bottle.

Re: The Regional movies thread!

Watched couple of movies- Starting off the movie watching for 2019.

Vijay Superum Pornamiyum - Malayalam- Asif Ali-Aishwarya Lekshmi : A nice feel good movie. Asif and Aishwarya meet up as part of a marriage proposal. How their respective dreams lead to a natural business partnership and associated stuff. Aishwarya Lekshmi is very good and Asif Ali also does a good job. Excellent supporting cast lead by Siddique with some good scenes and dialogues.

Rating 3.5/5

Nine: Prithviraj: Malayalam: An interesting sci-fi, horror, thriller mix from Prithviraj. Not something that has been seen before. Very well shot, great background music and well acted also. First production from Prithviraj. Definitely a new experience.

Rating:3/5

Re: The Regional movies thread!

Watched 'Manithan' a 2016 movie on dvd recently and i liked the courtroom drama. Scenes in this movie eerily mimic what we hear and see on tv and media about high profile law cases, a case of art imitates life. I give it a rating of 3.5/5

Trailer

As a music fan loved this video of 'Mun Sellada' the main song in this movie sung by Singer AnirudhRavichander and Malaysian Tamil Rapper ADK(Dinesh Kanagaratnam)

Re: The Regional movies thread!

Watched KGF in Kannada on Amazon Prime with English subtitles.
Rating -1/5

I don't understand what's the hype all about and why it is rated 8.8 on IMDB. I also read that it's the highest grossing movie in Karnataka crossing Baahubali 2. God knows what the audience wants.

It's the same old story of the hero alone beating 100+ people with no sense of script . All scenes including emotional and action scenes are overdone and overacting with loud background music. Yes it is shot lavishly and there is a larger-than-life look and then there are clever use of balck-and-white scenes along with fast and slow motion scenes etc..not my cup of tea

+1, the hyping of the hero by the villains got to my nerves

Re: The Regional movies thread!

Watched Kumbalangi Nights. A near perfect movie. Just awesome. Fahadh faasil as The complete man Shammy juts rocks the role. But Shoubin Shahir is as good if not better. That guy is a star.

Madhu C Narayanan gives no hint that he is a new director!!

I guess a must watch in similar lines as Maheshinde prathikaaram, thondimuthalum driksaakshiyum, Ee Ma You etc.

Re: The Regional movies thread!

Watched KGF - I accept it as a stylish movie with one point less on the story line. Listened to 2 of my colleagues fighting over with polarised options. While I agree this is an entertainer, I'd not watch it for a second time. (All this while I am watching Bourne series for the umpteenth time).

Re: The Regional movies thread!

Kumbalangi Nights-Malayalam- Ensemble castl
Lovely little movie driven by some brilliant acting. Great to see a top level hero like Fahad doing a negative role and nails the creepiness while always being polite and smiling. Soubin rocks and the rest of the cast do a fabulous job.

Having said that I saw many reviews giving 4 and 4.5 stars and hailing it as the best thing to come out in a long time. That I disagree. Felt it was in line with sudani, thondimothalum etc..

Good start for the Malayalam industry in 2019. Vijay Super Pournamiyum, Kumbalangi Nights and Nine. 3 different types of movies.

Kumbalangi Nights

This is what a group of brilliant actors can do with an ordinary story. One of the best from Shoubin, Fahad was creepy (in a good way - superb acting), Shane and the other kid were brilliant too. My favorite scene was the fight in the beginning between Shoubin and Shane. Can't get more natural with that "lock situation" .

Although I found Mahesh's Revenge better than this, Kumbalangi Nights should be definitely watched.

Rating - 4.5/5

I have booked tickets for the weekend! Catching a Malayalam movie here in the cinema after a while (last one was Poomaram).

Caught up with a few on TV over the weekend:
  • Theevandi (3.5/5.0): Nice little movie, topped with some good performances.
  • Thattumpurath Achuthan (1.5/5/0): Best avoided, Lal Jose trying to bring in Meesha Madhavan kind of feel to it, but quite a bad attempt at it.
  • B.Tech (2.5/5.0): Nothing great, but a decent watch nevertheless.

Re: The Regional movies thread!

Fida
Watched this Telugu Movie on Amazon Prime last weekend. I quite liked it. It reminded me of the Telugu movies in the early 2000s during my college days. I especially loved the Telugu accent of the locale where the story is based. The banter between the lead characters which later turns into love makes it a nice family watch. It is still a formula Telugu movie with nothing outstanding in the script. But it still is a good entertainer.
I'd rate it 3.5/5

All his recent movies are similar and big time drags. Did waste my time seeing all.

Next in line which are good to watch are - oru kuprasidha payyan and Joseph (that's still running in theaters). Do not miss these. I am waiting for the DVDs to release which should be out soon.

Re: The Regional movies thread!

I wonder where is the review of the greatest Marathi hit Sairat! (Or maybe I missed it )
@Maharashtrians where are you???

Movie: Sairat
Language: Marathi (dubbed in Hindi as Dhadak)
Director: Nagraj Manjule
Genre: Romance (and typical rich girl-poor boy )
Rating: 4/5

“Set against caste discrimination, this movie shows that love is all conquering” (sorry for the cheesy plot line!)

The highlight is the simplicity and realistic nature of the movie. You can feel an instant connect with the actors. Rinki Rajguru and Akash Thosar share great chemistry. There is are some light-hearted movements too and the music is just great. Overall a must watch for any Marathi-speaking manoos!

Warning: If you can watch Sairat, please do not watch Dhadak. Sairat is infinitely superior!
