Assassination attempt on Queen Beatrix - using a Suzuki Swift!

On April 30, 2009, the Dutch national holiday Koninginnedag (or Queen's Day), a man in the city of Apeldoorn drove his car at high speed into a parade which included Queen Beatrix and other members of the Royal Family.
The vehicle hit members of the public lining the street, leaving seven dead and 11 injured. The Royal Family was unharmed. It is believed to be the first attack on the Dutch Royal Family in modern times.
The driver, identified as a 38-year-old male Dutch national by the name of Karst Tates, crashed a black Suzuki Swift 1.3 GS (old swift) into a monument. He was formally arrested at the scene of the crash, rescued by gathered emergency service workers of the fire brigade and police, and taken to hospital for treatment. He died a day after the incident.

Police officers arresting the driver.

I don't see how he would have succeeded, maybe someone didn't tell him the royal family was on a bus. Swift+bus=stupid driver

Reports might reveal if he was DUI

IT was not an assasination attempt but just a rude attack intended towards the royal dynasty.
But I guess he should have chosen a hummer or at least a GMC or a Ram
pick- up. Might have been a project manager for sure.Always working with the wrong resources

The car was already damaged badly when it came and crashed into the monument.

And that was an assasination attempt? The guy was nowhere close to his target!

What impresses me is the crowd behaviour. Here, we would run away from injured, and try to beat up the driver.

In the pics, people have allowed the officials to do their duty, and are helping the injured along with the officials.

Maybe he/she had plans to come real close to the target and blow up the car. Shards of glass could have blinded him and hence he missed the target. Man, Sherlock Holmes would be proud of me!
