Skin Problems & recommended skin specialists

-I couldn't find similar topics, if they exist I have no idea why the search option wouldn't bring them up-

So the downside of bodybuilding, stretch marks.

My situation isn't losing weight, it's that I'm getting bigger/muscular and have stretch marks under my shoulder near the arm pits which most people get.

and now I need to get rid of them. Dr Marwah at Andheri west suggested "adapalene gel" which goes by the name of "adeferin".
Now I know that specific cream works wonders for acne spots but it isn't doing much for stretch marks.

Guys I need to know of any good skin specialists in Mumbai that can help me. Also how many of you have sought to get rid of stretch marks and did they work?

Really need to get rid of them, bodybuilding isn't fun when you get these,

Thanks

The cause of stretch marks according to Wikipedia.

Quote:
The glucocorticoid hormones responsible for the development of stretch marks affect the epidermis by preventing the fibroblasts from forming collagen and elastin fibers, necessary to keep rapidly growing skin taut. This creates a lack of supportive material, as the skin is stretched and leads to dermal and epidermal tearing. If the epidermis and the dermis has been penetrated, laser will not remove the stretch marks.

Skin subjected to more stretching force than it can handle will tear. Hormonal changes and genetics influence the skin's capacity to withstand stretching forces, as do diet and [possibly] exercise.
I would recommend you go a little easy on your body building rather than seeking a doctor. There is no cure for stretch marks. They will disappear on their own.

Gagan, vikramD has hit the nail on the head. Either you have lost too much wieght or you have gained it and lost it again. Vitamin E creams will help but thats all they will do, help. You cannot irradicte stretch marks except with surgery.

You may try Dr. Nina Madnani who consults at the Hinduja Hospital. She is one of the finest.

Have you tried cocoa butter creams? These are supposed to be the most effective OTC creams available here in the US. I'm pretty sure you'll find them in Health & Glow, or regular retailers.

Skin Problems

Okay so I'm a teenager and like many of the teens..I too have some skin problems(acne to be precise)..i started getting acne 3-4 years back but I didn't bother it at that time mainly because the breakout's were not that bad and were hardly noticeable..but the situation has got worse now and it is really bothering me now....

So,I decided to visit this dermatologist which was recommended by my sister's friend..my treatment started on 8th March,09 and my doctor told me that it would take 6-8 months for my face to clear up since my case was severe...but it has been more than 6 months now and I still don't see any improvements..I'm really confused whether I should continue with this guy or should I try some other stuff for my skin...please if there are any dermatologists in here do help me out or if there's anybody who has had similar experiences??

PS-I just got to know about a treatment called Derma Cleanse which gurantees acne free skin in 3-4 months and it looks promising..has anybody tried this out..should I go for it?

1) I am too having this issue, but its nothing to worry about. To me it happened with age.

2) Drinking more water helps a bit.

3) Tension is also having direct relation to this. I am in tense state currently and its visible from my face.

4) The no. increase and decrease with season also.

IMHO, with age all will settle down. Skin problems are not very easy to solve. I had infection on my right thigh as I dont use leather wallet, but raxin ones. I am strictly against using leather products. It took more than 3 months to just get rid of the infection.

Second opinion is a must. But also remember than sometimes an doctor with average reputation is better for somebody than the most reputed ones.

Been having acne issues myself for over 15 years now. Started when I was in my teens, and I've tried a lot of stuff.
On and off I've used Acnesol & that works fine. I also try to use a face pack every weekend, so that excess oil gets drained out. I'm a very light sleeper, and this affects my skin too.
Some of the simplest things to do- try to get atleast 6-7 hrs of sleep every day.Drink lots of water, and have lots of fresh veggies. Don't cut back on meat (if you are a non-veggie, ie), instead moderate the amounts consumed.
Try to wash your face as many times as possible.
I've tried homeopathy and had decent results with it.Worth giving a try,IMO.

A simple cure for some types of acne?

Just a few days back i happened to come across this interesting mention on another site.

Its a simple procedure you can follow - use a clean pillow case every night.
I am a seventeen-year-old who had terrible and repulsive acne for the past 3 years, and literally got rid of it in one week by putting a clean towel over my pillowcase every day. : reddit.com

I'm tired of listening to things like drink more water, get adequate sleep, dont be stressed, wash your face regularly, stay away from oily food, etc.I have been doing all this from the past 2-3 years but there's no improvement, the problem is that my skin is too oily and that is the main reason for my acne..I do apply facepack's to drain out the oil but that too doesn't help me for long. Thanks,Rehaan for your tip..I'll definitely give it a try.

Hey speedfreak, even i was suffering from acne problems during my college days. I was advised to use Acnesol from a pharmacist and it really worked. Now i get pimples very rarely and when i get one, just apply acnesol over it. May be you can try it out.

Speedfreak01 - Which dermatologist did you visit in Delhi?

See, every person's case of skin problem will vary even though the visual appearance remains the same. My Acne will have factor A B and C and someone else's will have A C and X. You get the drift?

Ok, the reason why I wrote the above is since I have faced severe skin problem in my teen and post teen years. Doctors used to term it acne / pimples / hormonal change / lifestyle habits etc. I tried local medication and suggestions from people, but all in vain.
People used to suggest various methods, medication, rituals, habit change but nothing used to work, sometimes even worsening the condition.

It is only when I consulted this top dermatologist, that he actually understood and identified the problem to be 'Rosacea' - Rosacea - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It took me a while to get this treated but I was assured since I saw results (I can understand how desperate you must be) and knew I was getting cured.

It is a MUST that you visit a good dermatologist and get the exact cause ruled out if the problem is acute. You see, identification is the key!

PM me if you want more details on my doctor. If everyone wants, I can post his details on the thread itself.

ankit -- I'm sorry but i can't post the dermatologists name here..if you want then i can pm you the details.I know what kind of skin problem I'm suffering from..it is basically a mixture of white head's and zits(the most common one).I'm not complaining about my doctor, its been almost 7 months since I started his medication and there has been improvement..when I started it I used to get these huge pimples but now also I do get them but the size of it has reduced and also my forehead and nose have completely cleared up...the only concerned part left now are my cheeks. So,I'm not at all complaining about the dermatologists..its just that this guy promised me 6 months to clear up my face but it has been around 7 1/2 months now and still he says 6 more months to go which irritates me and I dont even change to any other doctor right now as he would start all over with a new prescription.

No issues at all. If you ever feel you would like to consult a new doc, let me know.

It's impossible to pin point a time/date for skin diseases to be cured. You're lucky that things are working for you in 6 months. It can usually take years for skin problems to be eradicated from the root, so hang in there

Patience is a virtue, be happy and smile.. You'll start liking yourself better!
