Unfortunately, there's no good news.
Sandeep (the car's owner) informed the insurance company. They wait for 2 months - wait and see if the car can be traced and recovered. If not, the claim procedure starts and after another month, they pay up after taking depreciation into consideration.
Money is not much of a problem for a successful young well placed executive and his wife. It's the mental trauma that they have to go through.

Even if money is not a problem, why should you pay from your pocket. There should be a law that says that the insurance company pays whatever they have to after depriciation and the shortfall should be borne by the manufacturer for not providing a proper anti-theft mechanism. It's a joke that you can open a car so easily. Everyone talks of ABS and Airbags. What's the use if the car itself is not there. Looks like manufacturers are very concerned about the safety of thieves driving around in stolen cars.

News just in.
The car was located by the Bangalore Police at a garage in the Ulsoor region.
I'm awaiting more information.

Car stolen from Mumbai and found in Bangalore garage????? Very sad thing to happen to any car owner. These people (car thieves) should be jailed for life and be given the hardest work ever (in jail). Wonder, what crimes they commit with the stolen cars??

I'm sorry I did not get you. You mean parts stolen, major minor accidents, kept in bad condition etc etc..?

It seems some chap brought the car to the garage for some minor work. He left it there and disappeared. Two months passed. The owner of the garage got suspicious and contacted the police. The car's been lying at the garage for a little over 2 months.
So it's obvious that the thieves used it for whatever they wanted to do and dumped it once their work was over.

Wow, that gives a slender hope that the car has not been battered much. Thanks for posting, and hope your pal's get back a good car.

Great to hear! Hopefully, your buddy gets back a car that isn't substantially damaged. Congratulate him on our behalf

Since it has been more than 2 months, did Insurance company pay him already?

We are in for a battle here. Various stories are coming up. Mumbai Police, Mumbai Court, Bangalore Police, Bangalore Court, Insurance company, garage, etc. It's looking bad.
I'll put down the entire story as it progresses.

Wow! That was amazing. Mumbai to Bangalore. Surely must have been used for a purpose by the thieves.

We would certainly be interested in knowing how your friend gets the vehicle through all the legalities.

Kindly keep us updated. Thanks.

The first hurdle:
The Bangalore Police is asking for a whopping Rs. 50,000 for "money spent in tracing down the car". Did they trace the car down? I don't think so. It was the garage owner who went to the police with news of "a" car lying at his place for 2 months.
If any Team-BHPians can help with this matter, I'll be grateful.
