Totally ruins the fun. My Citizen Promaster’s solar battery has died out. Not sure where to get it fixed. And worst: have a Seiko Kinetic. Even that is showing signs of a dying capacitor. Not sure what to do—and where. Cannot give these watches at local shops for a battery swap.

That's a world record 'breaking' watch. Nothing else breaks. Lol. Enjoy!

re: Which watch do you own?

A small pointer for anyone who is looking to buy a square G-Shock (in fact, any G-Shock) and torn between the Solar and Non-Solar version.

Casio DW-5600E-1VQ (G001) is the non-solar version sold in India. Doesn't have features like world time, 5 alarms, bigger and bolder letters, auto-backlight on wrist rotation etc. If the usage of backlight, alarm etc. are nominal, the battery will last somewhere around 3 years, or even more. The battery model is CR2016 and is easily available. The cost is ~ Rs.50 and can be replaced on your own or by any local watch mechanic. A decade down the lane, the battery replacements are going to cost you less than Rs.200.

G-5600E-1DR (G671) is the Solar version of the DW 5600 sold in India. Has world time, 5 alarms, one with snooze, bigger and bolder letters, auto-backlight on wrist rotation etc. If the watch is exposed to any type of light on a regular basis, the battery charge will never fall below High. Although it's a solar model, the solar module does have a finite lifetime. For G-Shocks with ABC functions and more, it lasts around 7-10 years. It uses a CTL1616 battery and is not available easily. The cost currently is more than Rs.800. Expert skills are required to replace a solar battery. But the advantage with the G-671 is that, it doesn't have many battery draining features like ABC and so on. The only battery draining feature is auto backlight and so you have to switch it on only when needed. I'd say, wear your watch at least twice a week outdoors and rest of the time keep it near a window which admits light atleast partially, so that the battery level will always be on High. Never ever let your battery indicator fall below Medium and rest assured, your watch will last a decade easily (maybe even two)

Damn! The stealth black looks very... mission impossible!

Maybe i should just save my money and forget the ABC function. Tough solar would have been nice though.

God.. this one looks nice too.

Timex Ironman also has a reputation for durability, and is a good option if you decide not to splurge. Although, its looks won't help to perpetuate one's DNA, if that's a criteria!

Cheers,
Vikram

How about adding any watch face on your smart watch? fully functional dials to boot. Came across this remarkable App. Costs $6 for subscription.

Sapphire crystal is the glass on the watch face. It is scratch resistant and is highly shatter resistant too. Really good to have if your hands brush against something. One great thing is that how it hides the age of the watch. Since they are resistant to scratches, the visibility of the watch face is always like new and it looks clean and bright.

My 11 year old Titan Edge looks like it has been just bought.

re: Which watch do you own?

So after much reading and salivating over different Casio watches online, I have decided this is what I want in the watch:

Must have
1. Positive Display (negatives seem to be very difficult to read in daylight)
2. Tough solar
3. Sapphire crystal face
4. Clean watch face with primary info (not busy)

Good to have
1. ABC
2. Analog + Digital

But sadly I think my budget is going to hit the roof with my "must have's". Maybe I can ditch the tough solar in favor of the Sapphire glass.

Another way of looking at this watch purchase thing is maybe buy a 6-7k INR tough watch for the next two years like the GA 2100 1A1 that sénor tjax suggested and then buy something else more advanced then? As opposed to buying one kinda expensive watch for the next 10 years?

I dont know, help me out here.

Installing 3rd party apps bypassing App Store is a big No No. And the app is from China, so unless one knows what all the app does, I'll be wary of such apps.

The app wasn't loading. And yes, thanks for alerting. You're right, it could be spy-ware.

re: Which watch do you own?

My friend wanted me to get him this model for $45 in US, (Black Friday Sale). Alert your contacts there. Not able to pull up the model number from my archive.

It's GX56BB-1. A bit oversized I guess.
