Hello Enthusiasts,

There seems to be a growing interest in Automatic watches in India and now the manufacturers seem to supply to the demand.
Titan, Timex, Fossil and Citizen (the brands selling at malls) are having their Automatic offerings listed on their portals. While Fossil and Citizen had it for quite some time!
Most of them are driven by Miyota movements from Japan and are priced similarly around Rs. 12,000 (starting). Seiko needs to correct their Seiko 5 series (SNK, SNXS, SNKA, SNKK) pricing and availability.

With people becoming lazy by the day, the idea of not needing to change the battery of your wrist watch seems to sell at malls. Any which way this is good for the industry and buyers both!

Titan Automatic
Timex Automatic
Fossil Mechanical
Citizen Mechanical

Note: Fossil & Citizen call it Mechanical with Automatic winding. Only Citizen has Ladies automatic wrist watches in this range.

Cheers,
surjaonwheelz

Timeless!

(Pathfinder is American branding for the same watch which is known as proTrek for rest of the world)

This looks like the PAG40 isnít it? That was and still is a beautiful watch. Pricey though considering it a hell of an old model. I think 185us on Amazon.

The PRT50 series look good and seem pretty affordable. But no tough solar.

This whole sapphire glass thing is pretty expensive. I think a recessed glass protected by an outer housing should do it.

When you purchased your GSHOCK online, did you get this metal box? My friend didn't get it, but when I bought mine from the Casio retail store - I got this beautiful metal box. It's a good watch to own, pretty simple at that

Bope no metal box. Only cardboard. Is it the same watch that your friend picked up?

Maybe the higher end G-shock models get metal box. Mine is kind of vintage basic series.

No, the same model watch which you purchased comes in this beautiful metal box. This basic watch is their first design from 1983, finding appeal once again. Even online, there is this site (not sure of its authenticity) and they have this box. Price is higher at 4,096, though

My older mechanical watch died and I replaced it with an Automatic. Seiko 5 Sports Turtle SRPB21J. It came with a rather thick Nato and I did not like the feel of it. So swapped it with the straps from the older watch.

It is quite popular in the outside world as well. Recently got one for my 11-year old - in the Baby-G guise

The steel range, recently unveiled at Basel, is to die for. This is the GMWB5000-1, with the resin band (Bluetooth & Solar)

I'd suggest that you buy from AliExpress. Very reasonable prices and good quality.

For me, it's the sheer utility and practicality they offer along with decent looks.

Well mate Casio G-Shock is an iconic digital sports watch which is very popular among watch enthusiasts as well as normal folks. Among its fans are movie stars, rock stars, sports stars, random celebrities, Military Generals, etc . No wonder it has fans on our lovely forum as well.

These watches are a hot favorite choice of military forces around the world and some of them give it to their cadets as a standard issue watch.

G-Shock watches are virtually indestructible given the wear and tear it undergoes on a wearer's wrist. Also they have little to no competition in this segment apart from maybe Timex Ironman series. IMO Timex Ironman has no chance before a Casio G-Shock when it comes to pure ruggedness and tough build quality, as I own both.

Watches from G-Shock line are hardy, tough and rugged. Some of their features are:
  1. Shock Resistant (Tough resin body which can endure bumps and falls up to 10 meters or 30 feet or even more, while keeping the movement inside intact.)
  2. Water Resistant up to 200 meters or 650 feet
  3. Solar powered(only models having Tough Solar feature) which makes battery replacement less frequent.
  4. Up to 5 alarms with snooze function (some models also come with vibration alarm).
  5. Moon and Tide graph (some models have this feature)
  6. GPS, Altimeter, Barometer, Compass, Thermometer feature in some models that is ideal for an explorer.
  7. A watch for all (ranges from as low as 3.5K to as high as 65-75K depending from where one buys)

P.S. DO NOT compare a G-Shock with smart watches as both are different and serve a different purpose.

Crazy price still for a watch that old. Looks like its just selling on collector value.

I like the mudmaster series of the gshocks.

The steel range has been around for some time now, but they keep bringing out newer and special editions. This one with the resin band has the best of both worlds, the steel case and the lighter resin strap. There is a electric blue anodised dial variant of this particular variant which is totally breathtaking. If I didnt already own the basic square G and was not limited by budget, I would have picked that one up in a heartbeat. I think that was released as a limited edition, since it does not seem to be on sale on the Casio website as on date.
