Re: Which watch do you own?

Can anyone identify this watch legendary sprinter Florence Griffith Joyner (a.k.a Flo Jo) is wearing? There's several pictures of her with it, but none sadly with clearly identifiable branding (not something I can identify, anyway).

Thanks.

That's CASIO SDB-300, She almost immortalized that watch. I still have fond memories of that watch which became synonymous with her style and the Olympics

Re: Which watch do you own?

Is there any website from where I can order Japanese watches like Casio and Citizen, especially the ones not available in India? I want to buy a Casio Duro with a Pepsi dial but it's just not available here.

Re: Which watch do you own?

Got my hands on this beauty this week. It's an Orient Kanno, and it's my first mechanical timepiece . The size and weight are a bit overwhelming as I am used to wearing lightweight Casios, but the heft feels quite reassuring for a change. The simple-yet-striking design is delightful to look at, the unidirectional bezel feels satisfying to use, and the lume on the hands and hour markers is on another level altogether. Overall, a great watch for the price .

Re: Which watch do you own?

New Watch Alert

A drive to get the moon watch, luckily the distance traveled wasn’t 3,82,240kms.

I kept Omega Speedy in my list for a very loooong time, In fact I wasn’t particularly looking for a manual winding(pro) watch, you know the automatic Speedy price range wasn’t that difficult to achieve but I never picked one for whatever reason. Today I happily own and wear a beautiful Omega SpeedMaster Professional Chronograph Ref.:311.30.42.30.01.006 with a sapphire crystal that exhibits not only the front face but the case back revealing the meticulously finished CALIBRE OMEGA 1863.

Quickly I slapped a cow hide leather strap to match the contrast to all black & white accent dial and it worked out to my liking.

Re: Which watch do you own?

Congratulations on the Speedmaster. I was indeed contemplating on the Speedy vs the Seamaster. Had the Speedy Pro a date function, it would have been for me. I ended up getting the Seamaster AT. Was on the wait list for a Rolex for almost 2 years, may be I did not follow up with the AD, but it was not worth it to me anymore to wait for a Rolex. The Seamaster with METAS certification is good enough for me.

Titan Edge ceramic line should fall in the range you are looking for. It is lightweight and has a very slim case. Also they look very elegant compared to most other lines within Titan.

Hey Peeps,

Got the Tissot Seastar 1000 watches for my wife and myself. Simple and elegant design.

Women's edition is Quartz and feels discriminated over men's which is Automatic else beautiful to wear as daily watches.

So it turned out to be a major service with the mainspring needing a replacement. Overall it cost INR 7800 including full service and a few part replacements. Expensive, but considering the watch was used regularly for the past 7 years, seems fair on the wear and tear part.

The watch is now back in action and is keeping flawless time at par with my Stowa that is 1. new and 2. has a (relatively) better movement.

The Chiyoda watch winder has been in use for about 4 months now. Few observations-
1. Has 4 independent motors with multiple settings - 650-2000 revs per day, both clockwise and counter-clockwise/ both
2. The motor is super silent and barely audible when in action
3. The body has been well finished and gels well with wooden furniture
4. The drawer at the bottom is pretty much useless with the pillows being as big as the space, without the pillows, it is usable for other watches

The Citizen is an ecodrive, just occupying the free space

Also, have been thinking seriously about an OP36. I realise that my Alpinist gets maximum wrist time (about 80-90%). I recently met someone who has been using an Omega Speedmaster as their daily watch for 10 years. Considering my Alpinist has been well worn for 7+ years now, I feel I may be able to amortize the cost of a really nice watch over the next 10 years. It may take me some time 1. for the finances and 2. for availability of the OP, but seems like that may be a one watch everyday step at some point.

Re: Which watch do you own?

I have two watch winders, all programmable for different watches. But I have stopped using them. They still display my watches, but I have not switched them on.

Obviously, a big advantage of a watch winder is your watch(es) run on time, calendar is up to date. But here the thing, they actually wear your watches down too.

Watch winders are a bit of a carry over from old times. Watches, especially, the mechanical/automatic watches needed to run continuously to keep working accurately. One of the big problems used to be the lub oil clogging up, once a watch stopped.

However, with modern oil technology that is simply not a problem anymore. You can put your Omega Speedmaster away for five years and once you pick it up and it will run fine! But if you had it on a watch finder for five years, it would need a service, as it had essentially run for five years. It doesn’t make any difference, really, whether it’s on your wrist on our your winder.

I have 6 watches, all automatics. I have now taken to wear each watch for 4-6 weeks and then switch to the next. I alway check the date setting on the watch I am about to put on. I will switch watches at one day after the set date on the watch that was setting idle. So I only adjust one day. Works fine for me. I have also a very nice, automatic, dress watch I wear on special occasions. No date/calendar. So I can just strap it on for the evening and switch back to one of my other watches when I come home.

Thanks.

Seamaster is certainly a good choice, Congratulations. Omega as a brand provides quality and value for money so you can’t go wrong with it.

I’m not very keen on Rolex too, so if my AD calls me for a Submariner or a GMT I will pickup else nothing to bother. Moreover I have the iconic day-date President in 18k and the Date Just variants so I’m happy with it.

As I have various Chronograph watches, I wanted to have Zenith EP, Tag Heuer Monaco Calibre 11, Seiko Chronograph and Omega SpeedMaster Pro in my collection to celebrate the icons of the Chronograph heritage.

Re: Which watch do you own?

I am not too much into watches; however, one of them which I am totally in love with is my Father's watch. Nothing fancy. It's a Ricoh Dynamic Auto Delux, 21 jewels, which he bought way back in 1968, if he recalls it correctly.
This was his first watch bought from his first or second salary.

The watch was out of action for a few years. This year, when my parents celebrated thier 50th wedding anniversary, I thought of getting the watch refurbished and gifting it to him. Not to mention, it did bring back a few good memories for him and a big smile. That is all that I wanted to see and feel!

I am lucky to have found a person who worked on the watch very passionately and it now looks almost as good as new!
