Re: Suggestions for Team-BHP from Team-BHPians

Just a small request for the classifieds section since there is no real organisation and the search function doesn't allow word searches. Can you add a feature where anyone who has more than 1 ad can have their own personal link, which when opened, will show all the ads posted by that particular member? As of now, ads are approved in batches, so someone will always have his brand new ad buried under 10 others which have been approved 5 minutes later. I'm usually lucky to not have that problem but I'm sure many will be going through that.

Hi Pranavt,

This feature already exists. Here's how to get to it :

Re: Suggestions for Team-BHP from Team-BHPians

This a suggestion from the point of view of a guest. (It hasnt been long that I was a guest on this forum.) I tried searching without success on the thread, which is rather long, if this suggestion has been made earlier. However, my apologies still if it has been submitted earlier by some member.

A new guest on the forum typically arrives with the intention of getting guidance/advice regarding the new car he is planning to buy. On url www.team-bhp.com, he may turn to any of the following tabs "Advice", "Test Drives" and "Forum". Probably in that order. He doesn't find what he needs immediately under "Advice" tab. so he turns to "Test Drives", where he actually finds an excellent and very useful Summary Review. Great. But he is also looking for detailed reviews including ownership experiences. Will he find it, will he not? Well, I was lost initially quite a few times. As the "Forum" tab has loads of sections and is actually more suitable for a member than a new guest, whose primary interest is, let me repeat for emphasis, to get information in respect of planned purchase of new car.

In order to increase the ease of access of such information, I have the following suggestion:
  1. Rename the tab "Test Drives" to "Car Reviews", which appears more appropriate.
  2. Under this new tab, there can be three sub-tabs. Each of these sub-tabs will generate car-wise output, based on the selection by the user, in the same manner as in is presently under existing "Test Drives" tab. The sub-tabs are as follows:
    • "Summary Review": This will give the same summary review as one gets presently under the existing "Test Drives" tab.
    • "Official Test Drive Review": This will guide the user to the Official Test Drive & Review of the car selected. In case, no such review exists, appropriate message will be generated.
    • "Ownership Review": This can have further sub-tabs
      • "Initial Ownership Reviews"
      • "Long-term Ownership Reviews"
Each of the above tab would list the review threads of the car selected by the user.
I believe that this change would immensely enhance the appeal of the forum to a newcomer. He will find all he needs to find about a car from a single main tab. Of course, all the existing car reviews would need to be suitably tagged for identification for this purpose, which is a one-time exercise.

Re: Suggestions for Team-BHP from Team-BHPians

I have a suggestion to make on the sticker store. Could there be an option to individually buy specific stickers and not the entire set? For example, if I am stickering my car, I would probably go with a 'Live to Drive' and a 'Got BHP?' or some such combination of 2-3 stickers. The others are unused.

If the selective shopping feature is enabled, it would prevent the 9 additional stickers (in the set) getting into the hands of relatives/friends/colleagues. Let people who want to buy the entire set be allowed to do so, but individual sticker shopping also could be allowed. I understand that shipping just 2 stickers is going to be costly. To counter this, the prices of individual stickers could be slightly high - 1$ per sticker or something?

Re: Suggestions for Team-BHP from Team-BHPians

I noticed this bug today morning (or is it one ) for a brief period before it disappeared. It shows the most recently updated thread in shifting gears as "Private" (see pic below)

Suggestions for Team-BHP from Team-BHPians-private.jpg

Is this glitch because the most recently updated thread is someone else's thread in the Assembly line section (which I obviously can't view)? If so, the assembly line could be excluded from getting into the updates

EDIT :
Looks like my previous search for the word didn't pick up a similar question posted by someone else. Sorry for the duplicate question. Anyway, my suggestion is whether Assembly line can be excluded from getting into updates?

If disallowing Assembly line in updates is not feasible, another offbeat question - how user friendly would it be for Assembly line to be introduced into User CP menu instead of in the main forum? OR even on the same row as User CP, Assembly line, Garage, members list, etc.

MODS : sorry for creating back to back posts, one was yesternight and another now; the 20 minutes Edit option timeout had expired so please merge the 2 posts if possible

Thanks GTO, for sharing the hilarious replies. Imagine a guy doing t-bhp 24x7 for so many years and being asked such inanity! I enjoyed this the most

Huh? Why not team-bhp?
I am still ing on the floor.

Btw, I wonder if some small validation in the code, e.g. date of joining / no. of posts or like, can help prevent such a message from gratuitously popping up.

I was under the impression that the purpose of a public forum to to connect with people who share some common interest.. some users might not want to divulge information in public.
R32_GTR, Am quoting your post from the BMW thread, and answering here to prevent that thread from going off topic.

Look at it this way : I receive about 20 What Car? PMs everyday. My reply to each of them : Please post in a relevant thread and you'll have my answer. Why?

- If I reply via PM, only one person (that is, the recipient) benefits.

- If instead, advice is given on the open forum, it remains archived for life and hundreds / thousands of members & guests stand to benefit.

Remember, Team-BHP's primary purpose is the free exchange & availability of unbiased information on the Indian car scene. We are NOT a private forum and all of our content is open to guests (searchable too).

Therefore, I insist that automotive information is shared on the public forum. The PM facility is meant to be used for 1-on-1 personal interactions, chit chat etc.

Re: Suggestions for Team-BHP from Team-BHPians

When someone's post is "Deleted" in a thread because it adds no significant value/is objectionable etc. and at times is subsequently infracted, why is the post still there in the thread with the MOD message and infraction points? Why is the post itself not deleted completely?

The present way, the infracted post looks out of place w.r.t the thread and also it is out there for everyone to see that the member got infracted for the post.

Re: Suggestions for Team-BHP from Team-BHPians

Is there a plan to provide document hosting or data storage?
I know this is a forum and not a document sharing site.

Better if I tell the reason because there might be a different solution.

I was thinking given the travels we all do if we should start inputting the toll charges we pay on different toll booths.
Quite a few sites in Europe and US would be providing these details and a lot of us when planning our trips like to know the toll charges.
A database of these charges would help.

Something simple, modeled in Excel or Access should do the trick I suppose.
Here is something for starters.
State | Highway# | Toll Booth Name | From | To | Date | Toll Charge.

We can just use Google Docs for the same purpose. Create an excel sheet, and make it public. Post the link in the thread, which anyone can update.

I hear you and I heard my brain telling me the same.
I don't like user based Google docs being editable by all. Kind of takes away the authenticity. Hosted on team-bhp would ensure that only members can update that. And I would trust that more than an excel hosted on Google Docs.

Disclaimer: No, I don't have anything against wikipedia.

Re: Suggestions for Team-BHP from Team-BHPians

Sorry this is not a suggestion,
but am still facing the issue of view first unread not working.
It works properly on my android, and automatically in fact.
But when i use my laptop, and even click view first unread it just goes to the last post on that particular thread.
any help on solving this appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Suggestions for Team-BHP from Team-BHPians

Few suggestions from my side:

1) A like button (just like the Facebook one) when we really like someone's post or pictures posted by someone in a forum or when we like someone's Garage photos ( I know that we already have the thanks button but still...).

2) A chat feature to chat with fellow BHPians/Buddy BHPians who are on-line (like the one in Google Chat).

3) A feature to know fellow BHPians in our vicinity (by means of their address or I.P address etc. cause it would be good to know them personally rather than wait to spot a car with 'Team-BHP' stickers and await a reply).

4) Alternate payment method for purchasing the 'Team-BHP' sticker set (ex- using D.D. or if any direct address is available, we can collect it personally).

5) I know that Mods may not like this suggestion but still a request - Can we haev some authentic 'Team-BHP' merchandise like limited edition key-chains or caps? (I know that the community does not like to commercialise but it would be good to have these special items).

I hope that the Mods will consider these requests (or demands whatever you call it) as per their capacity.

+1 to that, more of a demand rather than a suggestion

I very strongly second this. The first sticker on my car was an LTD sticker and since the time it was stolen (yes stolen! taken off very neatly by some lowlife) I haven't put any other sticker. Why? I never wanted any other sticker, I'd ordered the complete set only for the 'Live to Drive' sticker since I didn't have the option of selecting an individual sticker.

Please please please enable such option so that one can select individual stickers. You may have the shipping cost standard (irrespective of quantity) so that people like me could tell the world that I indeed 'Live to Drive', yet again.
