What about talk shows then?
Ppl seem to have sidelined my question on that.

There are many talk shows, and many times they deal about sensitive issues.
But you can't label them obscene.

Probably next ppl would be thinking of stopping such discussions also ...

@alpha1 you raise the actual point. Who decides whats objectionable.
Censorship gives power to the govt to stop what it does not like. This is the danger of censorship. Obscenity etc., are "By the way" censorship is a tool used by govts to control what the populace sees

Govt must act as 'Rating' agency than 'Suppressing' agency.
'Censor Board' in India is actually 'The Central Board of Film Certification'. They should stick 'rating' films rather than 'cutting' films. The problem is they have 2 or 3 ratings - U, UA & A. Somehow they have to fit all films into these ratings - even if film needed to be cropped.
The solution is follow something like this: MPAA Ratings

Delhi High Court Refuses To Play Moral Police; Sach Ka Saamna Will Stay On Air
Quote:
“In this land of Gandhi, it appears that nobody follows Gandhi… Follow the Gandhian principle of ’see no evil’. Why do you not simply switch off the TV?

“We have very good advice for you. You have got two judges sitting here who do not watch TV at all. It will certainly help. Individual ideas of morality are not the business of the court. We are not sitting here for moral policing… You approach the Parliament and get the remedy.

“The courts cannot be expected to deal with issues that involve different individual perceptions.”

“Our culture is no so fragile that it will be affected by one TV show. Moreover, nobody in his individual capacity can be allowed to take upon the social order and ask for directions.

“You are asking us to entertain an area which deals with perceptions and opinions. Further, morality yardsticks are to be decided by the government. We cannot decide the issue. We are not sure whether the show has brought out the truth of many people but it is certain that it has brought out the hypocrisy of various ministers and parliamentarians.”

Awesome ruling! Thanks for posting it!

By the way, in a facebook movie trivia quiz, i came to know that MPAA did not allow producers of Meet The Fockers to keep this name unless they actually found a family called Fokkers!!
