This is insane. Couldn't think of this type of scan happening in international airports. At least this is not happening in any of the Indian Airports!!! Thank god!!!

this is disgusting..... The day is not far, where it might be a crime to see the duty shops... except greediness, I do not see any other purpose for these kind of scams...

The British Embassy has also warned passengers at Bangkok Airport to take care not to move items around in the duty free shopping area before paying for them, as this could result in arrest and imprisonment.
That warning, if made known universally to all passengers going through the duty-free shopping area, will make a lot of buyers keep away, and mean very poor sales figures for King Power, the only concessionaire who operates all the shops there. Hopefully, once that happens and King Power starts losing revenue, the scam will be forced to die a natural death.

Most of the flights to India are at unearthly hours thanks to bad negotation on part of our government for landing slots, This results in Indians hanging around for longer durations in all the international hubs like frankfurt , Changi , HK or Bangkok and as most of the people are in Economy and do not have luxery of business lounges we end up browsing the duty free shops.

I used to prefer Thai over Cathey Pacific taking transit at Bangkok instead of HK but after reading this kind of hesitant to prefer any trip to US , Korea , Japan via Bangkok.

Well every touristy place is money hungry but then don't take it that bad.
Thailand is very much like India not only culture has lots of indian elements but day to day life has similarities. We Indians possibly know all sorts of scams and do not belive people easily at touristy place and also know very well how to bargain and Bangkok is a peace of cake for us.

So it is more fun indeed rather then bland western countries with a marked price, The rip off in west is in another form that is a 30 Euro ticket of Madom Tussads or some 15 Euro for a similarly bore musium which you can't bargain.
