first open maps.google.com, and click satellite view. Next bring map cursor on the usa map, press left lick and drag the map till you see india. With india in center, enter name of city. for example, bangalore. you will see the bangalore map!

hey it is a grt site. i could locate new mumbai, the creek over bridge which joins mumbai with new mumbai, the palm beach road, also a small pond which on the side of palm beach road, the NRI colony only if you look closer. i mean if you are used to the roads then you can easily locate the place you want to.

i had this exhilarating feeling when i was searching for new mumbai, as you feel u are actually on the satellite viewing this.

The actual place is different in some cases from the spots marked on Google Earth. For Eg., Kochi/Cochin on Google Earth is a sport north of the city and not the city itself. Lagos in Nigeria is marked way East of the actual city, Jo'burg in South Africa is marked south of the actual city. I couldnt make out any landmarks at first, till I started looking all around the spot marked on Google...the spot shown as Singapore is actually Johor Baru in Malaysia.

Its pretty cloudy down south, too - that makes it a little more difficult.

This must be a Beta version, but its still a very good lesson in Geography.

Do they mention anywhere the date/time when these photographs were taken? I was hoping to see the rain clouds over the cities ...

Most detailed pics are more than 2 years old. For example in delhi, Dhaula Kuan is still under construction. But there are no time/date stamps, maybe in next version?

I just banned google earth web site in my company. Everybody started using it as passtime and the amount of download it does is huge. Didn't want airtel to laugh all the way to the bank at my company expense.

also, google earth requires a lot of bandwidth in your net connection - or else if you put such options as buildings on etc - and you try to zoom in really a lot - it takes forever - even on my hathway broadband connection - i gues you need something like a t1 etc.

btw, if you wanna check details for real - your must get the nasa gps software free from the nasa website. it's awesome, awesome - does realtime gps imaging - so you can actually see the cars on the streets at that time. but then playing around with it really requires a t1
