German Stamps have several categories and have to be sorted carefully.
Names changed with period.
Early stamps were 'Deutsches Reich', followed by Deutsche Post after the war. After the war there were 4 zones, American, Russian, French and British. But basically they split into two, Russians on one side, the other three on the other side. The stamps of the Russian zone bore a stamp, "Sovietische besatzungs zone", soviet occupied zone. Later this zone became East Germany, Deutsche Demokratische Republic (DDR) and the stamps later bore this name. In the meanwhile West Germany became "Bundes Republic Deutschland and their stamps bore this name. But there was still Berlin, West Berlin remained under control of the West. So the stamps issued by them had the name 'Berlin' added. Most of the German and Berlin stamps were identical except for the added name of Berlin, but there were exceptions too where a stamp was only issued in Berlin or in the west. However, while the early stamps were of Deutsches Reich, a few states also had their own stamps like Saar. Later when Germany occupied some places they issued stamps like Boehmen und Maehren. Germany also had a colony in Africa and the stamps bore the country Deutsch Ost Africa.
So when you collect German stamps, sort them carefully. I have not touched my stamps for atleast 25 years, not even now, but have nice memories of sorting and filling the albums passing a lot of time.

Cheers harit

@cbzire: there are several sites from abroad which sells stamps (if you I can give you address).Ebay.in sells stamps in India;sometime you can get a whole collection for a less price.Better to buy from stamp dealers locally;so that you can see what you are buying.if you are new to this hobby, avoid buying foreign mint (=not used postally) stamp, because, fake stamps are largely sold, instead opt for used good condition stamps. As you will be experienced, you will know how to check fakes.

Now,this collection is from Italy:
Sorry for opening up such an old thread. While cleaning my room, I found my old stamp collection today. I have a few thousand stamps. Some of them were purchased as packs 20 years ago. where exactly are these stamp dealers you talk about? Are there any you know of in Delhi. Would like to get the collection evaluated and sell it if the amount is anything substantial. My knowledge about stamps is almost 0. Thanks.
Attaching a few pictures.

re: The Team-BHP Philately Thread

You can contact eBay My World - indianstampcompany or from here Indian Stamp Company , supplier of postal stamps, stampex india with one dealer, I bought good stamps from him once or twice.

I forgot his name, but he is a good, aged gentleman. He lives in Meerut.

Before selling it is better to check online free catalogs if you have something valuable.

There was one guy in GoleMarket area in the 90s from whom I remember purchasing stamps & albums during school days. Not sure if the shop is even still there or not. I forgot the exact location now, but if you are from that area, there used to be just on shop in GM which used to sell CBSE textbooks and this shop was on the same lane some 50m ahead.
Jaguar is online now   (1) Thanks

re: The Team-BHP Philately Thread

Ah, those stamp days. The post office was right next to the school and so were the main market. But i don't remember how it all started.
But was so much into it that at some point used to go through waste buskets and fallen envlopes.
Had some 3d stamps as well. Words like CCCP, Magyer comes to mind. But all are gone now unless my lil brother kept some from being taken away by cousins.
After stamps it was listning to shortwave radio, sending reception report and collecting their cards and gifts along with the stamps ofcourse.

Not completely in tune with the spirit of this thread but nevertheless; here's an opportunity for children to get creative in a lucrative way .
