Hi Shantanu,

Try using Bandwidth monitor. Its available on www.download.com . Just search for it.. though it is the trial version you can continue to use it. It gives you the statistical analysis of downloads and usage by day, week, month, etc... Let me know your views on this

One more suggestion... Touchtel just launched plans that give you 9PM - 8Am unlimited access by paying Rs. 49/- Suggest you check the plans that have this and download in happy hours.

I am looking at alternatives Reliance offers unlimited download for Rs 1200 - is it worth it ? Any suggestions welcome
My cousins have a Touchtel plan that offers unlimited downloads (no data cap). Catch is, it is only 128Kbps. I can't find the details online since our stupid proxy server blocks flash sites.

In my opinion, in this day and age, no reasonably experienced computer user should go for any connection which has a bandwidth cap. Bandwidth is like memory - we always need more.

But, the wierd part is that my connection speed is 288kbps (according to the connection software). And there's no plan with 288kbps, can't understand anything.

Shan2nu
Hey shan2nu, I too use Aritel Broadband with 256kbps and 1.25GB download per month. Even on my system connection speed is shown as 288kbps.

Well bad luck i must say! When i was in bangalore i was on Airtel 128kbps unlimited DSL plan, so faced no probs of limits. Currently in noida i am on BSNL home 1800 which gives 512kbps with 5GB limit. The home 3300 gives 1Mbps with 10GB limit and that may be best for you.
Coming to reliance, the service is still not completely launched and is under test, but 1200 unlimited is a good deal and airtel charges the same for 128kbps unlimited.

I think Reliance also has a 10 GB limit and is not unlimited.

Their website does not talk about any limit. I guess till the service is under testing there will be no limits.

Exactly, on the Tariff page, the website does not talk about any limit. But if you check Question No 6 on the FAQ page, it is clearly specified that there is a 10GB limit.

Once received Rs.13000/- as the monthly bill from Touchtel. It is a corporate connection given to one of the senior employee residence. We did raise a complaint and got the rebilling done. The amount was Rs.990/-. They just said " sorry sir, there is some billing error"

If it was somewhere around Rs.5K, we would have paid it without noticing it.

I am considering Reliance Broadband.
Is 10 GB enough for 30 days when the Internet is being used for about 10 hrs a day???

Reliance broadband has datacap of 10GB/month. I got bill of 18k for single month using dial up connection on reliance for the normal 64kbps stuff. Reliance has highest additional usage rate/mb charge. BSNL has the unlimited plan DIAS option for 3.3k/month. the thing is either they reduce the speed of put cap on data transfer. I use D/U meter in my laptop to monitor the data transfer. We can't argue about the data usage once something goes wrong. we can just try to limit it ourself at the max. unlimited plan is better in anyway since there can't be any problem due to data usage. only thing is that it will be expensive. better pay that rather than get shocks in limited plans if u are heavy downloader...Hope BSNL ADSL stuff will come up with some unlimited plans in the future. Does anyone have idea about Dishnet WiMAXX home plans?

It all depends on how you use it.
