I think it is because sides reflect objects which are nearer than the those objects reflected in the hood.

Ever noticed that the trees afar seem to be moving with you while the trees nearer to you moves in opposite direrction when you look through the window of a speeding train? Something similar here

the humming bird is simply awesome! its difficult to shoot these birds. i've tried and failed many times

Snapped this at Pushkar - Kept the shutter speed low and captured the man as he twirled. The quality is a little off since Picasa downgrades the pics that are uploaded.
