Well, you should also consider Rao, the (late) former PM. After all he is the one who gave Mr. Singh an all-important go-ahead order.

Imagine (without these two men) what we would have seen in our roads today? Amby Mark 4, Premier Padmini, M800, Zen, M1000..and Bajaj Chetak.

Yes i agree... A big share of the credit goes to Rao for picking the right preson for the right job. Also protecting singh from the complexities of running a minority goverment.
Dont want to get into poltics here... but its sad that final resting place of rao was in hydrabad and was not in delhi.

But then, to compensate for singh we could also post the resume of other people in his govt like for ex, mr.lallo prasad yadav. :p

I think it happened in a sequence of events that took place in the early '90s... (dont know these are absolutely correct)

- collapse of the USSR (and the damn socialist way of thinking)
- the momentum of China (in stark contrast with the USSR)
- our creditor's demand for pledging of gold (our forex reserves were so low)
- the success of two companies of Bangalore , TI and Motorola (proof for our capabilities of "global delivery model")
-yes, there could be cajolement from the WB and IMF. But then it was the only -and the right-way out...
