Happy Birthday to your wife
The Taj Malabar has very good romantic dinner options by the backwaters. I've not personally been there, but people have talked good about this place
From personal experience i wouldnt recommend Le-Meridien as romantic, but otherwise its good
Have a nice time
Add one more to the list
11) Naadan Kalavara by Alapatt Regency [ Opposite Highway Garden, NH Bypass, Cochin ] ( Tasty Traditional Kerala Food, my favs - Irachi Choru, Meen Choru, Masala Tempered Rice )

2) Abhirami [Vazhakkala, North Rly, Kaloor] ( for cheap and decent veg meals )
3) Aruvi Kuruvi [Chittoor Road] for Naturopathy food.
4) Any BTH for Vegetarian food
5) ILA [marine Drive] For traditional food like Kanji/payar, traditional fish curry, Traditional non-veg preparations, fish curry meals, ethakka payasam etc.
6) Indian Coffee House [Edappally] ( for Masala Dosa )
7) Kayees [Near Durball Hall] ( for Biriyani, chicken fry and fish curry meals )
8) Rahmaniya [Kaloor] ( aka Kethel's Chicken ) for tender chicken fried in chilly + chapatti + lime juice combination.
9) Real Arabia [Palarivattom] for Arabian foods.

The Taj (I think the name has been changed to Trident) which is there in the end of marine drive offers a good dinner the pool side one , the light is very low there and they provide candle up on request , but you need to inform in advance. But I not sure that it is a 5 star , 3 star for sure
The Taj which is there in the wellington island is also the same kinda ambience.
Any recommendations for good non-veg restaurants in Kottayam? I went to Hotel Aida during my last visit and it was decent. In older days I used to like Tandoor restaurant, Best Hotel and Hotel Ambassador. Dont know the good ones these days as its been almost 20 years since I moved out.
can some one from trivandrum suggest some GOOD Sodexo food cupons accepting restaurants ?
What all are the Sodexo accepting hotels in and around Kovalam ?
I would suggest hotel Buraq especially the Mugal Biriyani - thats really yummy
Had been to a few restaurants in ernakulam recently and thought i would share my views.
First up 24 Carat in Gold Souk for lunch, the service was a little slow and i had ordered a steak which was pretty good but the other items that we ordered were fish biriyani and american chopsuey which were bad.
Next we tried Spice Route in Oberon mall for dinner, the fried rice was good but one of the chicken curries that we ordered had been taken out of the freezer and re-heated.
Chakkys in Edapally was another place we went to for dinner and we ordered prawns curry along with parottas both of which were pretty good, the service here was also quite good and the price reasonable.
Also went to Gokul Ootupara on the bypass for breakfast, the order was for dosa, vada and idlis which were ok.
Guys i need a suggestion for a good place for lunch in Tripunithura or surrounding ares. thanks

Joe, try Mammas at Pettah. It's great place with yummy food. Service is little slow though.
Thanks,
Jose.
On 23 April 2011, we had delicious Kerala-style vegetarian full meal for lunch costing just Rs 40 only at Abhirami, Banerji Road, Ernakulam.:thumbs up
On the same day, we tasted Kerala delicacies like Puttu Kadala at Bharat Tourist Home [BTH], Gandhi Square, Ernakulam. Added advantage here: a big exclusive secured car parking space within their compound.:thumbs up
We liked the pink-coloured warm water seasoned with aromatic roots supplied for drinking in hotels in Kerala.
Please excuse me for this :OT post

J.Ravi Sir,
If the water was :
- pinkish, then it's made by boiling water with 'Pathimugam' (Scientific name :Caesalpinia sappan)
- brownish in colour, then it's made by boliling water with 'Karingali' (Scientific name :Acacia catechu) :D
Klub Class - afaict, BTH uses a mixture. I am a regular there (how about twice a month?), so, I guess I am right.
Also, they have two restaurants there - one is the non a/c "coffee shop", other is a/c.
While quality is very good here, taste / flavour of Chinese, continental and north Indian dishes (like * Manchurian / fired rice / paneer) are a bit inconsistent - in the sense that they taste very different each time I order them. Things can get a bit bad around north Indian "holy"days - probably the N. Indian specialist chefs going on leave. But still better than most other restaurants; and certainly best only veg. place around. Competition is plenty, only that all are owned by BTH themselves.
Dwaraka is very consistent - and IMHO better - but I am no regular there. And wifey does not like the lighting arrangement in their a/c hall.

Mummy's at Thrippunithura North Fort(opposite of church) for meals. This is not "Mammas" infront of Benhur Hotel, petta.
I'm posting here for the first time!
My parents and sis tried out Hotel Highland in Thampanoor, Trivandrum. There is a Veg and Non-veg restaurant, which are two separate buildings. I'm talking about the Veg one. The food used to be excellent till a few years back. Last year when we went there, it was really bad. Now, they just gave it a try and it was awesome. It is one worthy veg restaurant here.
Other places that I like:
1) Ariya Nivas, Thampanoor - It's pure veg and the food is good.
2) Arul Jyothi - It used to be really good but now it's just average.
3) Maurya Rajadhani - I like the food there very much.
And for CHAT, the best place I found was a Hotel named Gowri Nivas opposite Medical College. It's really good there. But the other regular foods aren't that good.
Cheers!
