Foby - The 24X7 hotel you are talking about in Tcr is DOUBLEX I guess.
In Cochin ,other than the ones mentioned, the White fort coffee shop is open 24X7.

Or "Wyte Fort" as it's actually spelled, in accordance with the mallu tendency to intentionally mangle English words in an attempt to impart a cute/original touch.

Palghat - SriChakra hotel, near Chadranagar. Its located just after you enter the highway to Coimbatore.Very easy for travellers.Supposed to be the biggest in Pgt. Food is not great atall.

Frankly, there are no great places on Pgt.
TNVR hotel near market,Ashok Bhavan near Sulthanpet juction,Kapilavasthu near Transport stand is good for Veggies.

For decent accomadation, plently parking,BAR and as the best all rounder, Hotel Indraprastha near Kotta Maidanam is reccomended.

Had not mentioned this because their service can get very pedestrian.

Once I ordered ghee rice, which was brought in a plate, and a separate plate (for eating) was laid out earlier. The waiter simply dumped the serving plate into the eating plate. I always prefer to empty the serving plate over 3 helpings.

And the menu is very limited - porotta, ghee rice and biryani; chicken (one or two varieties) and mutton. Fish if you are lucky.

I recall being taken by my host to a punjabi style place near the overbridge (left side from Secretariat to East Fort, first floor of an old ramshackle building). Is this the one? That was one and half decade back. Never have been able to locate it since. What is the prominent shop on the main road?

Its spelt this way because of legal reasons. It was called White Fort earlier and when the owner had some issues , the name was changed. (a long story behind it , since I do not know the complete picture ,cant elaborate

@BSDriver - The one I mentioned is next to the bus stop , opp. Khadims.

Twenty years ago, the place for biryani in downtown Trivandrum was Azad. I used to love the flavour. It was near the railway overbridge, close to Thampanoor and East Fort. The restaurant was demolished for road-widening some 15 years ago, but I believe it reappeared in a new building in the same spot. Not been there since, so can't comment on the food now -- or if it exists at all!

4 , Hotel Grand in Mg road for quick lunch
5 , EFC opposite to Maharaja college ground
6 , Travancore court
7. Sree Krishna Inn - Pure Veg
8. BTH in Island - Pure Veg (I found all other BTH outlets are not good compare to this 4years back.!!)
9. Hotel International Coffee Shop - Only for Chicken Biriyani (I don't know the shop still exists or not
10. Near to old HC building, Cream Corner (Royal Chariot) for lunch with fish curry/fry rice. They used to give very good Chemmeen podippu.
11. For Masala Dosa, try out at the Veg hotel in Thrippunithura Petta (I forgot the hotel name)
12. Merchant Navy Club in Island for Lunch
13. Hotel Grand for Biriyani and Beef fry
14. Yuvarani in Jos Jn for Sea foods

I didn't like the Pai's corner in Palarivattom, but there are very good thattukada's in and around Palarivattom.

Joys , Das and Ashoka all 3 in sakthan stand with lot of parking space.

mint palace in shournur road

There is a new Update - Try ashoka bakery near railway station awsome really awsome coustom made breads.

Awsome tea from the casino which cost 45 rupees.

For snacks , burger king at east fort and west fort

AFC and EFC

For veggies , as you said Bharath - break fast after the holy mass in bharath is must for many thrissur people
Bharat always used to maintain the standard. Trichur Towers was good, now I don't know.
Hotel Sampoorna - I hope it is still there, cheap and best permanant thattukada.

Hotel Pathans for Veg Lunch

In Guruvayoor, Lunch in the Hotel Elite is very good.

3. Bombay hotel for Biriyani
4. Hotel Jaya - Only Veg and has good parking. Food is not costly here
5. Hotel Alakapuri - Good Lunch with Fish curry

Avoid the hotel run by Manuel Sons which is near to Mananchira. It used to too costly and never worth for the money

More upmarket - KK, close to Bombay hotel. But this is a bar attached, three star joint. Under the same management as other KK group, which has several bars all over Kannur, and runs the new BOT bus stand as Kannur. dunno how comfortable families would be here.
Bombay Hotel, Payyanur is there more than 50year and always used to maintain their standard. This is only Veg

For Non-Veg, try in Hotel Top Star, Top Form, KK residency (costly)

Taj restaurant, on SM Road.

Golden dish, Caltex Junction.

For the adventurous, there is one unnamed place opposite the ICH, ground floor of State Bank of Travancore at Caltex Junction, which has good Chicken dry fry, sold by weight only in late evenings. (do not try anything else here).

For the veggies - there is a "prakriti" restaurant, about 200 M towards Kozhikode side, from Caltex junction, on the left hand side. The board is small, and the place itself is a bit off the road, down an alley.

Bharath, On railway station road, for veggies.
Also try in Hotel NVK for Non-Veg. Their Service used to be pathetic

Fish Curry Meals at a small restaurant near Vazhuthakadu Jn. (Forgot the name , I am sure TVM members can help).
Aruljyothi in Statue was good for Chilli Porotta
There was one Kerla Delux in the status Jn. on the way to Govt. Hospital. They used to serve Appam in the evening, which was very good. Its around 6yrs I visited TVM, so no idea now.

There used to many small "Chayakadas" in the west fort area which serves good snacks, Dosas and Sevas.

Across Kasaragod district, in the NH area, the hotels are little scarry as there will be lots of flys on the dining table even if the buildings are good.
The Nalanda resort in Nileswar is very good for Lunch and sea foods

There is one Veg restaurant in front of the Thirunakkara Temple, in the side of the old busstand, I don't remember the name. Masala Dosa was very good there.

The Chilli Porotta is very good in Aarya Nivas and Soorya's near to KSRTC stand.

I think you are talking about Sagara...

Not counting resorts, the Mango County Drive-in (near the govt. hospital) offers good, budget food and atmosphere in Varkala.
