At Kottayam,

There is a "Punjabi" non-veg restaurant just off the road to KSRTC stand through the Market. It is on your left hand side, while proceeeding towards KSRTC (it is a one way here). The menu does look authentic Punjabi, but the cooking is a bit like a Mallu speaking Hindi. ;-)

Otherwise, reasonable.

Edit - is this the one theexperthand is mentioning?

Hi,

Anybody tried chicken biriyani in Alai / Halai's near South Police Station, Alleppey?

They have been consistently good for the past few years, until the last time, where they have changed the rice from the usual long ones.

In spite of the slight change in the rice brand, today's Fish Biriyani from them was yummy!

Here comes my favourite hotels in Ernakulam listed in the alphabetical order to avoid any partiality.

1) Abad Plaza [ M. G. Road ] ( for Dinner Buffet )
2) Abhirami [Vazhakkala, North Rly, Kaloor] ( for cheap and decent veg meals )
3) Aruvi Kuruvi [Chittoor Road] for Naturopathy food.
4) Any BTH for Vegetarian food
5) ILA [marine Drive] For traditional food like Kanji/payar, traditional fish curry, Traditional non-veg preparations, fish curry meals, ethakka payasam etc.
6) Indian Coffee House [Edappally] ( for Masala Dosa )
7) Kayees [Near Durball Hall] ( for Biriyani, chicken fry and fish curry meals )
8) Rahmaniya [Kaloor] ( aka Kethel's Chicken ) for tender chicken fried in chilly + chapatti + lime juice combination.
9) Real Arabia [Palarivattom] for Arabian foods.
10) Renaissance [Palarivattom] ( for Breakfast & Lunch Buffet )

For the health conscious, I would recommend 3, 5 and 10.

It is Xmas time , The time to speak about cakes.

When travelling from thrissur to ernakulam at karukutty u will find a bakery called Choice bakery , a small one.

Just ask for the special cake , it costs around 90 bucks , its Yummy and awsome.

Actually that cake is made at a place called Pariyaram near to chalakkudy.

The same cake is available in the bakery at the end of Avenue road thrissur.

It's a road side restaurant on the way to Veega Land after Collectorate office. I don't know the exact location but the place is on the left side of the road while coming from Palarivattom side. This place is mostly frequented by people from Info Park, Cochin.

For cakes I would recommend Cochin Bakery very much, those guys are really experienced and damn good with cakes. Their cakes won't stay in good condition for 2 or 3 weeks but only for 3 to 4 days, its because its rich with butter and cream. They are so good in cakes.

For food I like the following places,
1. Kayees(both at cochin and mattanchery)- for biriyani, excellent quality and service.
2. Panjabi Dhaba (broad wasy)- For good N.Indian and awesome lassy.
3. Chicking ( palarivattom and mg road latter is closed for renovation)- For, you know what.
4. Grand- for various food taste.
5. Golden dragon (near Mercy,in N.gate of Cochin Shipyard)- For variety food
6. Coca tree (In avenue regent)- for the Excess avalanche and Mudslide

In the above my toppers are 1,3 and 6

Other hotels and MHO,
Ceylon bake house : Good food but bad service, Usual waiting tome for the waiter to come is 10min.
Bimbis : Was delivering very good food back 3 years. But now the quality have come down.
Woods manner : Picked up some hair and sand in meals.
Harbour view : Buffet was good at Rs.180. now the price is increased to Rs.225
Ananda Bhavan (Jose Jn.)- For evening tea and snacks.
