changing the year of manufacture

Has anyone tried changing the year of manufacture which is recorded in their RC books ? In my case, my Indigo was bought in Mar 2003, but the RC book has the entry as 2002. As per one RTO agent, I will have to get some cut off letter from the dealership which mentions which all chasis numbers were manufactured in a particular year and then I will have to submit this to the RTO.

Hence was wondering whether anyone had tried this to make this change

I had verified (on my own) that my car was indeed manufactured in 2003 ( by decoding the chasis number)

well, it not that funny. These idiots in RTO office assume that all cars that are registered till march of an year was built the previous year. They don't care to check whether the car was in production in the previous year. I noticed this mistake but then thought I can change later as I was planning to use this car for atleast 5 years. Now that I am planning to sell the car, I need to change the year or else I will be selling one more year old car :-)

You were probably sold a "2002 manufactured" car in 2003.

You can check the VIN details to confirm the manufacturing month and year before you would want to change the date in the RC book. The VIN cannot go wrong and even when you sell the car this would be checked by the prospective buyer if he has some basic knowledge on second hand car purchase.

I have confirmed that my car is indeed a 2003 manufactured model ( by decoding the VIN). Also, I have written proof from TATA motors which lists the chasis numbers for all vehicles made in 2003 and mine is one among them.
