When a child’s laughter haunted an entire family

Quote:
The family of Govinda, a resident of Vandse in Kundapur taluk of Udupi district, became scared when they began to hear the sounds of a baby laughing from their coconut tree late every evening. The family approached an astrologer, seeking a remedy from the child's laughter. They assumed that spirits were haunting them.

The astrologer told them that evil spirts were troubling them, and they had to perform a homa. However, despite the pujas, the child continued to laugh from the coconut tree. The family was left clueless.

Then coconut climber Seena Poojary came to their house. In the past, Seena Poojary had visited their house to pluck coconuts. On one such visit, this absent- minded tree climber had left his mobile phone in the tree after wrapping it in a plastic bag. It was only later in the evening that he realised that he had lost his mobile. Every day after returning from work, he would call his number from the phones of his family members. And that was the time that Govinda's family would hear a baby laughing because that was Poojary's phone's ringtone.

Poojary, who was confident that his phone was not stolen, started visiting houses and searching trees for his phone. It was only when he found his phone on the tree owned by Govinda's family that they got rid of the spirits.

Govinda's family reportedly went back to the astrologer to tell him that it was not evil spirits but a mobile phone that was haunting them.

I wonder if the battery of the mobile phone was haunted to keep it running everyday without charging, Had a good laugh

Re: Spooky Experiences : Share them here

I am waiting to experience any such spooky incidents, never occurred really. while driving in the night, the play of lights coupled with reflections of moon light do create many apparitions. I am sure many would have experienced as if someone was standing and disappeared or an apparition crossed the road. Most of it is clear to the mind on why that occurred and can't be termed as spooky.

I have heard about this Bopdev Ghat ghost near Pune. In the video, it is clear that it is a human being that is dressed to act as a ghost. When it comes to such fancily dressed ghosts, or any place involving haunted stories, criminals have an easy way out. What bothers me more about post-sunset Bhangarh or such lonely highway stretches is the free run that criminals enjoy. This video makes me believe more on thieves acting like this to extort money. May be, tracking fancy dresses sold of ghostly attire would help to nab these!

Any comment/critique to add to this, welcome.

Are you sure it was not a "real" ghost ? 😀 Someone most likely one of the passenger was clearly scared as could be heard from the screams.

Sure, it did look like that. To get the answer, the only way out is to get answer from video uploader on YouTube. But the speed with which the so called ghost walks, height, voice, motive to scare rather than any harm point to the fact that it was indeed a human being dressed in ghostly attire.

May be, one of them was not aware what the thing is about and got really scared.

Would've been fun if the driver had charged at the 'ghost', rather than backing up! What I wouldn't give to see the 'ghost' hitch up that skirt of its and run; howling away to glory.
Would've been an epic video!

That video has gone pretty viral with many countries claiming it's happened in their territory! But the origin, it seems, came from Kuwait. Check out the video below where they try to decipher the video. The conclusion is, as usual, open but still worth a watch.

You said it and the wish has been turned true. Here is a video where such a ghost was knocked down by a tuscan wine Fiat Punto. The ghostly attire is the same as previous video. Coincidentally, I own a used tuscan wine Fiat Punto.

Isn't this too much of a coincidence worth calling it spooky? These ghosts have become modern and travel through the internet and haunt people.

Re: Spooky Experiences : Share them here

Not my experience, but came across this article that seems relevant for this topic. A few of the listed places are the well known ones including places some members have spoken here, but a few were new for me, such as the Grand Paradi Towers, Mumbai, or even South Park Street Cemetery, Kolkata. By default, I expect all cemeteries to be considered haunted, so not sure why this needed special mention. My current apartment is next to a small cemetery, but no unexplained incidents has ever happened. So maybe just some cemeteries are 'cursed'. Anyways, enjoy the list!

23 haunted places you’d never want to visit

Amidst the never ending debate of whether or not a paranormal world exists alongside us, there is no denying the fact that there are numerous people who have had creepy, unexplainable experiences. Yes, some tales can be stranger than fiction! I went through all the pages of this thread out of morbid curiosity. And here I was, thinking that finally it has been two years since I watched "The Conjuring", memory has faded and I can finally sleep without having to leave the lights on...
Looks like another couple of years of leaving lights on at night..

Still to see a ghost or goblin but for a sailor the worst thing nowadays are african pirates.I had my maiden voyage when piracy was at it's peak. During that voyage we saw what looked like 3-4 patrol boats approaching us. We were sure they were pirates and It was my first voyage and I prepared for the worst. They were usually armed, we did not have any firearms and only a barbed wire protected us. We were able to communicate with a Indian navy vessel very near to us. They fired warning shots which could be heard for miles. Those patrol boats retreated immediately and stopped advancing towards us. This incident happened in 2009. Now Navy escorts navy ship in extended convoy pattern making ships more safe.

Re: Spooky Experiences : Share them here

Spooky or some other reason that can be attributed to this - I do not know. Not once but thrice I have experienced this.

Happened when driving from Hubli towards Bangalore on NH4, around 15 kilometres before Ranebennur. All of a sudden I hear this sound as if the car's tyres have punctured. This sound continues for around a couple of kilometres and everything is again back to normal.

The first time when I experienced this, I stopped the car, checked tyres and the bonnet area. Nothing seemed to be wrong. Again similar experience the second time around near the same spot. Not that I was driving during the night time feeling sleepy or was feeling tired after a long drive. I must have barely driven the car for around 100 kilometres.

Yesterday I was returning from Hubli and promptly around that place, before Ranebennnur, my car again started making that noise. Interestingly more than 5 cars had stopped and people were inspecting their cars for punctures.

There was also a Honda City car which had stopped and was being checked by two guys . When they overtook my car, I noticed the TBHP URL sticker on the rear number plate . If you are BHPians who stopped there yesterday and are reading this, can you share what you experienced that made you stop there?

Well, I had this experience too on NH4, few days back, not yesterday. There was some kind of sound from the car tyre. I stopped the music playing in the car to observe the sound, but it disappeared later.. It was indeed 15 kms before Ranebennur, before the new Kamat restaurant. I dismissed it as yet another "feature" of my XUV :-) Now I know, it's not just me who felt this noise.

But, how can this be spooky, unless we start this rumour of "tire(d) ghost". I feel it is just the surface of road in that stretch could be different and gives that kind of noise/feeling.

I do not believe in ghosts either and it is spooky in a sense that was unnatural. I have heard various sounds that are due to the echo when the car passes by certain dividers or barricades but this was odd as there seems to be no difference in the road surface for a few kilometers before and after. Also if this was a "feature" with any particular make of the car how come other cars also feel it?

I think the same too. Though I don't remember the exact location in terms of kms, but I have heard strange tire squeals before reaching Ranebennur while returning to Bangalore on my motorcycle.
This happened a little late at night (9:30ish PM). I got down and checked the tires.
Concluded that it was the road/undulation etc making noise and that I needed rest. Rode ahead carefully (read: wide eyed) and halted at Davanagere for the night.
