You can do several things

1. Continue to spend your new year eve with your family at Home

2. Go with your family for a lavish dinner followed by a drive around the town

3. Invite some friends (& relatives) over, arrange for some caterer, some music, some disk jokey and celebrate all together

4. If you are a memeber of any club or housing society, you can join the celebrations there if they are planning to organize any

5. Let your family enjoy the new year eve as per their wish, you and your friends can have your own stud / booze / drink / dine / wine / ... / party

6. You plus family can travel to a distinct place and join the fun and frolic there (e..g Goa, Pondy, Mumbai - Stay at Taj/Hilton etc)

7. You and your family can travel to a relative's home and handover the control of how you celebrate new year eve to your relative

8. you can spend your new year eve at nature's heart (=read jungle or beach etc). You can look for as isolated place as possible if required, You can also look for some dense beaches

9. you can go on a foreign trip (e.g. Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Shrilanka, Maritius, Dubai, China, Europe, US, etc etc) and enjoy the international way of celebrating new year eve

10. You yourself can organize a new year party at Palace ground and invite all of us from the forum

11. You can donate all your money ear maked for new year eve celebration for a good cause and sleep peacefully by 10 PM and start afresh on Jan 1st 2010.

there could be more ideas..

Avoid T-BHP meets as many will not be able to to come.
This is what I have been doing since a while:
- Spend dinner with family, and around 11ish, call your good friends over. Play some music and just enjoy yourselves.

I once went to a "private" party and it was horrible. I left at 1, with puke on my shoes, witnessed some fights and it was horrible. Due to the loud music and crowd I couldn't even meet everyone properly, and talk to them. It was just a hi, whats happening, and move.

This year, I am spending new years with family. Plan is to go out of town from the 30th-2nd.

My main point of all this: Spend time with those who matter. you don't need to go out or call everyone to have a good time. A close circle of friends, some good music and a very casual atmosphere is what is required.
Have a blast!

Since last 8 years, I have been spending my new year eve sleeping! No TV, no trying to call up everyone in the middle of the night, no SMS.

However, a weekend before that we have a potluck with our office gang!

Regards,

Which New Year is the question.
The New Year w.r.t the Gregorian Calendar?
Or the Punjabi New Year? Or the Bengali New Year? Or the Tamil New Year?
The Maharashtrian New Year?

And so on...

Do your own thing - that's what I would say.

If you want to party and create some noise, do so
If you want to spend time with your family/loved ones do so
If you want to be with yourself, do so
If you want to curl up with a good book, do so
If you want to imbibe alcohol, take your poison whatever it might be- cognac, whisky, vodka, whatever.
If you want to relax and sleep, do so

But do not break the law, don't drink and drive, don't create trouble
( some of our enthusiastic fellow Indians have a habit of cosying up to the fair sex in our larger cities during the 'Gregorian' New Year parties in hotels/discos/clubs)

Be careful in public places, especially after 26th November

Regards

As has become the norm for the last few years, I will be at home.
My extended family will be coming over most probably and there will be some good food and some drink.

Best way to spend the 31st, no traffic jams and none of the non-sense which you get outside.

Favourite new year's eve activity:

1.Spend the New Year Eve with family and pets at Home and have a leisurely, nice evening with a couple of quiet drinks and a nice dinner.

OR

2.Go out of Bangalore city somewhere quite far away and go out for the evening with friends there.

Whatever New Year's eve is like, the New Year's day favourite activity is to Tee off into the New Year with a Happy round of Golf!

All else is of secondary importance and can take care of itself.

Will plan much the same for NY 2010 as well I guess!

Since New Year's Eve happens to be my birthday, as usual go out for an outing and lunch with close family. Cut a cake in the late afternoon, and then snuggle up to watch a great movie. Do not drink so no New Year hangovers.

I have been sleeping on all new year eves, every one of them, I tell you . Wake up on the frosty morning and greet the new year with a steaming cup of coffee and a thick wad of newspaper at my disposal.
