The best car movies you've seen

Was just wondering what you guys consider some of the best auto or racing related movies you've seen.

Edit: I'm refering to movies primarily about cars/bikes or racing. I'm not talking about movies with good car chases such as Ronin etc.

Samurai 30th August 2005 15:02

Fast and the Furious
Smokey and the Bandit

Hellcat 30th August 2005 15:23

hmmm......lets see

Days of Thunder, Bullitt, Itallian Job, cannonball run, Transporter, Ronin, The French Connection (For the chase sequence), Vanishing Point

navin 30th August 2005 15:30

I dont know about the movies but many moons ago there used to be a TV show called Dukes Of Hazzard. They had some funny car chases there too.

Samurai 30th August 2005 15:30

Oh my god! I knew I forgot something... stupid:

Gone in 60 Seconds

BTW, I am quoting only those movies that are mainly about cars, and not Movies with some good car scenes.

RTech, can you clarify what was your intent?

himanshug 30th August 2005 15:30

Gone in sixty seconds-esp the last chase where Nicholas cage outruns the BMW 5 series in a 67 Shelby Mustang

artofzen 30th August 2005 15:31

Talking about the Mini, Bourne Indentity has much better car chase scene than Italian Job.

Cant get the one scene off my head from "Stop or my mom will shoot" (Stallone) :D

Music Video (Rush Rush - Paula Abdul)
Movie Chase (Gone in 60 secs)
Wild and impossible stunts: Cannonball Run (Car skipping over water)
True Racing: Days of thunder
The first one that got me hooked to good looking cars : Black moon Rising
Serial: Knight Rider (KITT)

umm guys, maybe I didn't clarify this properly, but I'm refering to movies primarily about cars/bikes or racing. I'm not talking about movies with good car chases such as Ronin etc.

My personal favorites are (in no particular order)
- The Cannonball series - First saw them as a kid and the sight of that Countach and those hot girls driving it left me speechless!

- Days of Thunder - Aside from the corny love story thrown in, it was a good movie.

- Italian Job (Old & New) - Ok, this ones blurs the line between robbery and car movie, but the movie is known for the Mini, hence it makes it to this list.

- Motorcycle Diaries : another line blurer, but an amazing movie!

- Faster - Awesome movie/documentary about modern motoGP covering the last of the 2 strokes to the current four strokes. This is THE BEST I've ever seen and a must watch whether you like bikes or not.

Biggest Joke of a movie: Driven!

Fast and Furious & Days of thunder(overall)
Ronin(chases)
Gone in 60 seconds (super cars)
McQ (the movie that got me hooked to cars)

Samurai 30th August 2005 16:05

Actually the Cannonball series were the first set of car movies I saw, that movie was more about goofy drivers rather than their cars... rl:

Here is one more... Duel by Steven Spielberg, his first movie.

aggressive_anush 30th August 2005 16:09

Apart from all the above.. i remember enjoying this movie called "chitty chitty bang bang".

ajmat 30th August 2005 16:10

Ronin - genuine chases using genuine cars
Original Italian job
Bullit -never mind the charger losing 5 hubcaps
For your eyes only - real laught - 2CV outsmarting Pug 504's
Peacemaker - Shows how solid a w140 is
Tomorrow never dies - Techno trickery + lone BMW 7 in a car park
Matrix Reloaded - Cadillac shocker

v1p3r 30th August 2005 16:27

Chase: Peacemaker
Overall: Days of Thunder, The Fast and the Furious, Cannonball Run (weren't there sequels too?), The Italian Job, Gone In 60 Seconds, The Transporter.
Biggest letdown EVER: Torque.

Gotta see Bullit. Seen the chase sequence, but not the whole flick.

Also, has anyone seen Audioslave's "Show me how to live" video? Seems it's based on a cult movie...any leads here would be appreciated!

Almost forgot -- Terminator 2: Judgement Day!!!
