SMS Scam

Beware:

Latest twist in Nigerian scam:
A SMS lands up on your phone telling you that you have won a perl / gold necklace. Reply to claim the prize.

How scam works:
The reply SMS is charged @Rs10. It is too trivial for you to bother about and just the right amount when multiplied by numbers for the scamster. Do some maths - if 1% users reply out of 2lac SMS it is Rs20000 earned for a spend of Rs2000. And profits multiply if more users respond.

Have you been had?

Add to that, IF you are bothered about being scammed out of your 10 Rs enough to actually make a big deal about it -- they might gladly refund your Rs 10.

Reminds me of this joke / story (quite brilliant) :

Quote:
Young Chuck moved to Texas and needed to make some money, so he bought a dead donkey from a farmer for $100.

The farmer asked, ‘What ya gonna do with a dead donkey?

Chuck said, ‘I’m going to raffle him off.’

The farmer said ‘You can’t raffle off a dead donkey!’

Chuck said, ‘Sure I can. Watch me. I just won’t tell anybody he’s dead.’

A month later, the farmer met up with Chuck and asked, ‘What happened with that dead donkey?’

Chuck said, ‘I raffled him off. I sold 500 tickets at two dollars apiece and made a profit of $898.00.’

The farmer said `Wasn't anyone pissed off that the donkey was dead?’

Chuck said, ‘Just the guy who won. So I gave him his two dollars back.’

@Rehaan: LOL Only difference is with world of SMS and fast communication it takes less than a day to start and earn reward.

A simple advise: If it is too good to be true, it is.
