Team-BHP - Walkie-Talkie systems

I have called my friend whose license I use, and even he does not have a clear idea about how to go about it. These rich guys never know how they get things. lol:

Certainly NOT Cheetah, I am not in a hury at all. Thanks a zillion for the efforts... :)

I have been using these 2 way radios (basic ones) in India for over 7-8 yrs now and havnt had any problems with cops or anyone.

The only thing I suggest when you looking for a 2-way set is that make sure it has rechargeable batteries otherwise in some time the cost you spend on replacing batteries will over shoot the actual price of the set.

Pemissible frequency range for different countries differ.

Do check on permissible frequency range in India for walky-talky or as matter of fact for general public use. Most of the walky-talky/ cordless phones with extra range made outside India are not allowed as they use frequencies not permissible (being used by police/security agencies).

I don’t think there is a chance to get caught this way unless a policeman gets hold of your walky-talky, but lets be a responsible citizens (personal view).

Dear Friends,

Reviving an old thread as need an important advise.

First the history :

We 3 freinds are planning a long trip on Bullets (around 3000km) in around 20 days. What we intend is to be in communication while riding / biking & waering helmets & other safety equipments.

What we are looking for

1. 3 walkie Talkie with hands free preferable 2 ways
2. Range does not matter a lot but the more the better
3. Should be personal model & not the one licensed.
4. Prefereable with recharegeable batteries & not very costly.

What we have found is Motorla T5725 at 1700 a piece, with 8 km range (which is 500m :D in cities) however they dont have hands free with them so they need to bought seperately.

Suggestions required

1. Any better model to go?
2. is this price of 1700 worth or we can get it cheaper.
3. What type of headsets are used in T5725
4. Is there any place in delhi where we can test & buy something better.

Help Appreciated!!!!

Try some models designed specially for helments. I same them on some website but don't remember. They are used by car & bike racers.

Why not licenced. Get a HAM licence.

Btw why don't you guys simply use a hands free kit on your mobile phones.

The call charges are quite low these days.
And you may need this form of communication maybe just 5 or 6 times in a day.

Rider being called:
With Voice activated call accept using the handsfree simply say yes and pull over to talk.

Rider Calling:
Stop and call to the other riders.

Its not like you need a minute by minute update.
Because riding as a group, we generally use hand signals if we can see each other.
The need for communication arises only if the other guy is missing and you start getting worried.

1. We are going to go places where there are no signal (Himalayas)
2. We would be 3 - 4 freinds on seperate bikes & we would like to keep a talk going on.
3. We would only use handsfree & hence can chat 5- 10 mins while driving in some lone isolate part of India.

What you need is handsfree with VOX. It means voice activated. So you don't have to press the PTT button everytime. You will have to play with the VOX sensitivity button to set the noise level at which it gets activated. Or else it will give an annoying buzzing sound everytime it gets activated with road and bike noise.

Himalayas. Wow.

Just check if there are any security restriction on the use of Walkie Talkie systems as well.
I assume special rules may be enforced there.

I vaguely recall reading about someone getting into trouble over the use of GPS kits. It might have been over zealous cops or some rule. Do check it up.
