The next boom would be on virtualization. The current trend is to reduce travel while consolidating their distributed workforce. This means people would able to communicate with each other (both officially and socially) irrespective of their location, medium or device! A Global Village!

Here are a few industries I feel which are going to be really big in the coming few months / years - specially the next 2-3 years. If one invests or has something to do with these then I feel they are in for a nice time

In no order of importance -

1. The Guest House / Bed & Breakfast Industry - here expensive options are a plenty BUT with Incredible India opening up to the world there are an estimated 3 million rooms shortage by 2015 ( Statistics that the hotel industry talks about ). Even the coming up CWG 2010 has a serious room shortage.

2. The Health Food Industry - These sectors are untapped in the Indian market where health is the most neglected fact. Be it subway or be it food supplements or body enhancing supplements. This field is underestimated. People are just waking up to how to keep their bodies the way it's meant to be.

3. Go Green Lifestyle Options - now this one I feel is still untapped all over the world. Be it electric cars, solar heaters, solar geysers, hybrid technology, Battery cars, planting more trees etc. The way this field is going to see a boom this decade will be mind blowing. It will be like all of a sudden people will start going Nature Friendly. Global Warming is just a ig picture of the overall world problem. There are countless other places where a lot of things need to be implemented. I feel this industry has the most potential / can earn you big profits with a lot of benefits.

4. The Wine & Canned Food Industry - Here is another one I feel India is yet to see its full potential and it remains untapped by at least 95 %. A long way to go I feel.

In my opinion, its Insurance sector. Especially health related insurances. It going to be like US, where you cannot step into the hospital without insurance. The way the hospital and treatment costs are going up, denotes only this.

Anyway, personally, I want the next boom to be in agriculture. Its long time due.

The real boom will be in energy sector. Private players like torrent, Reliance and Adani will expand.

IT boom will almost never come, as the field is no longer as good as it was.

ePublishing/eBooks/eReaders? Potential is yet to be tapped in India.

Of course, the handheld device race would keep continuing for some time I guess.

may be alternate source sector? some thing like solar lighting / Bio fuel?

I see lot of interest among people in buying solar lighting systems due to irregular power supply! But prices are high for solar cells! so if these become affordable, there is a big market fro same!

Who don't want a free power on a hot sunny day to run FAN/AC etc! Only the high investment is stopping people!

One of my uncles says this,

What ever happens, the Hotel and Bars will always have business.
Because people want to eat to live.

Also when people are happy, they want to celebrate so they go to bar. They are sad, again they go to bar
