Where would you like your retirement home to be?

We all, at some point or the other, discuss about our retirement plans. In these plans one of the most important factors is the house where we would be spending our retired life.

As, no 2 people are alike, similarly the ideal retirement home would also differ from person to person. This is a poll to see where the majority of the forum members would want to live after their retirement.

The choices could be many but some of the most important one that came to my mind are the following

1. IN THE HILLS : This is specially for the nature lovers who like hills, mountains, rivers etc etc. Hills also provide better climate and comparatively fresher air and lesser crime rate.

2. BY THE SEA SIDE : Beaches are mostly for sun lovers. The temperature is mostly moderate through out the year (dis-regarding exceptions)

3. IN A VILLAGE : Happy owning a piece of farm land and staying away from all the hustle bustle of the city. A piece full life.

4. IN A CITY : All comforts of life are available.

5. HAPPY WHERE I AM LIVING NOW : Used to the place, have my friends and my family around, thats all I need

6. SETTLE ABROAD

7. OTHERS : May specify which place in the thread itself.

A wooden house in small hill in a village near a sea shore will be enough for me

Mine would be close to a beach, with a small shack, which I hope to run. Of course, if a vehicle has T-Bhp sticker, they will get discount :-)

@deky

Excellent thread.

I voted others as I would like my retirement house to be RIGHT NEXT TO WHEREVER MY CLOSEST FRIENDS HOUSES WOULD BE. Then hills, beaches, city, village etc all take a back seat.

Nice topic,
I would like to retire & stay my village farm with my family and cousins away from hectic life.
Also planning/investing in property which i would identify for reverse mortgage to manage my life style and inflation needs.

My retirement home, if any, would be near to my home town which is not listed in any of the categories above. I think many people would prefer to go back to their roots once they are retired.

+1 to that!

All ye faithful from God's own country, please rise to the occasion.

Apart from a few places like Trivandrum, Ernakulam, Kozhikode, Kottayam, Kannur - all other places in Kerala slip into a nice category which is neither a city nor a village; PLUS, you have your beaches and the hills to wander too! And a pleasant weather (except for a couple of sultry summer months).

Kerala it is for me - especially a place like ALAPPUZHA or KOLLAM.

How many of you have already started thinking about retirement? I am under 35 years of age and have already started thinking, or rather dreaming about it.

Want a life with less stress, no clients, no status meetings where I am free to do whatever I want, which I am capable of doing! Don't like to sit idle.

Want to slow down the pace of life.

You said it. To me it is the best place to live in India, if you don't want to be in a Cosmopolitan environment and if you don't want to live inside a Metro city.

You mentioned Alappuzha and Kollam. There's another kind, places like Pala!

This post, my wife has to see!!

I have been dreaming, rather LOUDLY DISCUSSING this issue with all and sundry - EVERYONE IS DEAD AGAINST ME. I am already leaving my mid-age behind - when do I start doing things which I ENJOY doing?
