I am still waiting for police to call me. Wonder how many months it will take.

I had submitted copies of all the documents i submitted at the passport office : birth certificate, Ration card, Sbi bank passbook , HDFC bank statement , letter from housing society , school (S.S.C) certificate , degree certificate , 3 photos and a " service fee" of Rs 500.

Please dont wait for police to call you , they take their own sweet time - could be weeks / months. Its better to visit the police station yourself , maybe they already have your file.

This is for my wife's passport, got an appointment finally on 15th May. Here are the documents i am taking along.

Do we need to take a DD along for the fees, or they accept cash? Also, is the fee calculator on their website reliable?

They accept cash, don't take any DDs. The fee calculator is accurate.

Firstly, thanks for all the help here at Team-BHP - especially to skumare, download2live, joslicx, benbsb29, Samurai

Man, was it a nice surprise to finish the passport process in a breeze. What a difference TCS has done to the Passport procedure! I had my appointment today morning at 09:30 and I was there by 08:45. A small queue had formed by then and I had to wait for some time - until around 09:10 or so. By then the queue was allowed to trickle in and we all filed in. I showed the printout of my appointment to the desk and they asked me for the address proof. I gave them my bank statement from ICICI for a year. She then said that she wanted another proof - a company letter preferably. Good that I had it and gave it to her. She wanted a xerox copy of the same and thanks to joslicx - I had carried a copy. She then wanted to see my company ID card. Not to be outdone, I had carried that too :)

I was then given a token number on a printed sheet and as soon as we crossed the turnstile, was asked to go to a particular counter. Was surprised to see the place clean and neat with signboards all around. No need to ask anyone for directions. This was counter A. Met the guy and was asked for the documents which I provided. Also gave him my existing passport. He asked me to recheck all the details in the application form that I had uploaded. Confirmed those but there was just one thing that nearly threw me off. I had provided the names and addresses of two persons in my native place. The guy there said that I will need to provide names and addresses here in Bangalore - preferably near to my place of residence! Stumped! But thankfully, I was able to remember some numbers and after some calling, was able to provide these details. In the whole process, this was the only hitch.

Once this was completed, we were asked to move on to the counters B and then C. Waiting for a slot at counter B took a bit of time - think it was around 20 minutes or so. But thankfully, I was called soon and the person there did a quick check of my documents and asked to go to C. Went to C also, quick process. He checked my existing passport and asked where I had got it done last time. Answered and that was it. Passport cancelled and was given back to me. Was asked to collect the acknowledgement slip when walking out. Did so and was out by 10:30 or so.

Nice. I was actually dreading this whole process. But it went off well. Now, if only the police verification also goes without a hitch.

Do they need two address proofs, i have only one BSNL Bill for last year and this year? This is for my wife's passport.

Name and number of references, can it be husbands name for wife or it has to be a neighbor or someone else living in the same locality?

Finally for Wife's passport application, can her husband accompany her or she needs to go there alone. Apart from this Did you carried passport size photographs and how much was the total amount charged?

I am not sure if i need to give her my Company ID card as well?

My parents had a bad experience at Sai Arcade PSK at Bangalore while applying for fresh passport. Since no one else is allowed to accompany senior citizen, both my parents were left with no other option but to go alone. They visited same PSK four times before the application gets accepted.
My father was an ex-paramilitary personal and retired from the post of Deputy Commandant, but the TCS fellow who was sitting in the first level of verification said, “retirement ID card from Govt of India” with the complete details of the person and address is not enough to apply for passport. He had also submitted the Gas connection paper which is on his name; the TCS person told you have to provide the latest receipt of Gas purchase which is not mentioned on the website.
Whereas in my mother’s case, she had submitted bank’s 1year statement as address proof. However, after reaching PSK they asked for a covering letter which is again nowhere mentioned in the website. She gave two sets of bank passbook’s photocopy and proceeded to the final submission. At this stage the passport office personal rejected the application saying he wants a covering letter. After two days when she went to submit the letter they told her to go from one counter to another. The first counter person told the letter is not essential, photocopy of passbook is enough. Somehow she reached at final submission counter and here the passport office personal said the letter is not addressed to PSK, the PSK address is not mentioned blah blah blah. The person sitting next desk told him the provided letter is fine but he was adamant on his stand. After 15 minutes he accepted the application form for processing.
I’m not sure about other Lalbagh PSK, Bangalore or PSKs in other cities. But Sai Arcade PSK is a complete mess and filled with half knowledge people (my opinion). They themselves are not sure what all documents would be sufficient to process the passport application. A few people are rude and have no respect for Senior citizens.

Good to know all went well, Naveen.
For the police verification, a few pages back you will find the steps to be followed for a early verification.

Well, I guess the asking of 2 address proofs is just the usual red-tapism. Though the site itself mentions that they need only one address proof, she asked for 2. And also, I had 5 address proofs with me - just incase they rejected one.

I think the references have to be neighbours or someone in the same locality. Don't think they would accept your name for a reference. And sorry, not sure if you can accompany her. Perhaps someone else will have an answer here. For me, since it was just a renewal and not tatkal it was 1000.

Thanks bensb29 - yes, remember the post. Will check the status and go to the police station myself.

Also on the address proofs as mentioned elsewhere these were PDF printouts sealed by the Bank or just printouts? I have requested the bank to send me last one year statement should this suffice or i need to get a seal separately?

Another information that i did not find was do they take pictures inside, or we have to carry passport photographs along?

Mayank, please do spend some time going through the site, its very helpful and answers a lot of queries.

If your bank statement is a hard copy, then a seal may not be required, but it is better to have one if you plan on submitting a copy of the same.

No need to carry any pictures, unless ofcourse the applicant is below 5 years, i think.

I'd gone to the banks and just told them my requirement - 1 year of bank statement for the purpose of passport renewal. So they got it printed for me with the seal and the signature of the teller. This is enough.

There is no need for you to carry photographs - they take the photo in the PSK itself.

Finally yesterday I submitted the documents successfully in the PSK centre near Lal Bagh Road Bangalore . Thanks a lot for all the Bhpians who helped me by answering my queries and solving my apprehensions about the whole process .

The experience was mixed . The first counter lady was quite rude in her behavior , which is the least to expect from a government office . She asked for 2 address proofs . Even though I mentioned that its only one what you require as per the website , she said that RPOs can ask for more if they feel like . So I ended up giving the following documents
1- 1 yr bank statement with covering letter ( ICICI )
2- Company letter with signature on the official letter head
3- Company Id card ( Photo copies )
4- 10th Mark card ( photo copies )
5- Showed my Btech certificate for NECR

She was happy with the documents , but she asked me to wait and it took almost 15 minutes before she gave me the actual token . I do not know why there was a delay like that .

Counter A was fine . She was polite in her way asking questions to me and verifying my documents . She took my pic , uploaded the docs and sent me to counter B . It was again 45 minutes wait for me to get a slot at counter B . The guy was the quickest in the whole office and he just verified my bank statement . I was asked to go to counter C next .
Waiting was almost for 15 minutes . The lady she verified all docs including the original of my Btech and SSLC certificate .

Went to the EXIT counter , there was one guy who was handing over the docs to the person in the counter and then giving the acknowledgment to you. Im sure he is one of those middle men who will be making good money by taking and selling appointment to the Am Junta .

Now waiting for the passport .

^^

Good Luck guys.

Best part of the whole experience at PSKs (at least at Sai Arcade) was that after it is over, at the exit we are asked to rate our experience. This, we have to do before being told the status (Granted/Not Granted). Obviously everybody was filling Very Good/Excellent in the feedback. It was not a blind feedback, we had to fill it on a touch-screen monitor! talk about transparency!

Another initiative by Bangalore city police. You can search the file status in the Bangalore city police website. The method is a bit crude but then some thing is better than totally being in dark.
Go to this website http://www.bcp.gov.in/english/passpo...ort-index.html

Here you can find links like passport status, adverse report etc. Upon clicking these links, it will load a massive pdf document where in you can search whether your file number is present.
