Ever tried others singing for Shammi other than Rafi. Manna Dey had some amazing numbers for Shammi. One was Cham-Cham baje re paayalia. A beautiful composition by SH Bihari for the movie Jane Anjane.

There was a movie called Ujala which had Mukesh and Manna Dey singing for Shammi. Here is one of the lesser known songs of the movie. Shammi trying to contain hungry kids by showing them dream of food!

Hi
Loved the movie. Agree that this song did not become as popular as the duet "yaa laa dil le gayee"
I am off on a trip from 18th onwards so as a 'auf wiedersehen" 2 songs
Voted as the most patriotic

And a romantic duet

Regads
PS: I have asked on accommodation thread about hotes. Pl look at my posts of 11/3 and 15/3. thnks

Another one of Rafi's lesser known ones.

This time its from the Kalyanji/Anandji stable. The smooth rendering is what makes it fun to listen.

A Hemant Kumar composition and song for today. This is one of the lesser known ones. The best part of the song is soft and seamless way it flows. One of the all time favourites.

From the movie : Ek Jhalak

Re: 1950's, 60's and 70's Hindi songs?

Today Vivid Bharati was playing some songs from Suchitra Sen's movies. (Today being her birthday). The most prominent movies that come to mind are Devdas and Bombay ka Babu. Both had amazing songs. And of course in the color genre, we have Aandhi with RD.

On a different note, the program also played a Talat Mahmood track which one can hum, all the time. From the movie Roop ki Rani Choron ka Raja. (And no this is not an Anil Kapoor Movie but a 1961 Dev Anand/Waheeda Rehman flick)

Re: 1950's, 60's and 70's Hindi songs?

Visiting this thread after a long time.

Couple of mentions:

- We all know Ajit as the favourite bad man.
- Here is one where he was hero (one of the leads). The movie: Halaku (The title role was Pran).
- A classic with Shailendra's lyrics

Yahudi is very famous for Dilip Kumar's song by Mukesh (Ye mere diwanapan hai) and many of Geeta Dut songs. Here is one by Lata which is very alive.

Adding one more:
- Many of us know the classic Rang or noor ki baraat by Rafi from the movie Gazal.
- Here is the happy version of the song: (Lata)
- And of course it has to be Madan Mohan.

This one especially - typical SJ violin orchestration. A composition before they fell for the commercialisation of the latter period!!

One for today. We all have our favourite classical songs from the movies. Naushad and Madan Mohan rule here. Not to mention Shankar-Jaikishan's weakness for Bhairavi.

Here is one of the lesser know ones from the movie Saaz aur Awaaz

Here you go!

I sometimes think whether Hemantda contributed more as a singer or as a composer. His composition of Vande Maatram in Anand Math has resulted in such a powerful rendition of this song (especially in Lata Mangeshkar
voice), it is totally out of the world.
Here is one more solo, from the lesser known, which is again vintage Hemant at his best,
