Hmmm yup.. it would be hassle free for sure. But again, it should also add some value to her career. Though not interested in a regular full time degree, she is still a very much career oriented person which means there has to be a clear direction and benefit after this program.

Of the two options i listed out, i felt the ITM EMBA program is better, as it offers a regular EMBA degree with specialization in operations/finance/marketing/management and is also classroom oriented. I dont know the rating of this degree and how it compares with the EPGBM program from IIMC or such stuff which is why i m confused now

** Bumping an Old thread for some Update & information **

My wife is interested in pursuing an executive MBA program and we are evaluating options for her. She has done BE in cse & now a Sr. Software Engr in a small scale IT company @Hyd.

She intends to move her career towards a lesser time intensive job and settle down before we plan to extend our family. She is more interested in the project management and Operations domain and also actively takes part in many NGO activities alongwith my mother.

We have ruled out classroom/regular MBA programs and are only looking at either distance learning (interactive online) programs or WEEKEND Classroom programs.

I have come across HUGES Education which offers various distance learning prgms from reputed IIMs and BSchools worldwide. Alternately, I have also seen an interesting classroom EMBA program offered by ITM which results in an Executive MBA, after 1 yr and the classes are held on weekends for 6 hr durations. They have centers in Hyd, Banglore & chennai as well. So in case i shift my job (I m in a decision making phase on various offers i have right now) it shall not be difficult for her to move in either.

I am looking for suggestions and info from you guys on the above mentioned options as well as any thing better that you feel I should know. I personally dont have any information on what's better among the two programs I mentioned and hence your information will be relied upon hugely ! Thanks a lot in advance guys

Hughes is good.
Its offered in my company for learning on the job from XL and IIM, and has HUGE application numbers.

Also, have you looked at IMTCDL?
I opted for that for 1 year FinMgmt course 5 years after my MBA, cos i realized I need some refreshers.
its not expensive, and has relatively good standing.

PGDBA from Symbiosis is also one of the options. One could choose from either of the two options
I. Pgdba (complete correspondence course , duration :24 months )
II. E-Pgdba (same course content as above , but duration is 18 months and this is conducted in case a group of say 15-20 are available in a corporate premises to do the course)

One thing to keep in mind while going for a distance course is that it would be difficult to switch domains immediately while moving to a different company e.g. from software engineering to finance/operations. A better option is to look for the domain you are interested in , in the same company if possible gain some exposure in it and then one could get a lot more opportunities to more to a different company with the new domain and during this time the diploma/degree would be a real big advantage.

The one reason DL MBA is not respected within industry is due to lack of peer learning. An MBA would mean nothing without it. Most of the learning in MBA happens through interaction and group learning, working out case studies and gaining a wider perspective of looking at things. MBA is not at all just about bookish learning and hence IMO DL MBA lacks the teeth a normal one does.

I understand your point, but we dont have an option of choosing a regular daily college MBA for various reasons and hence looking at Weekend/Distance learning options.

The ITM EDU - EMBA mentioned in my earlier post is a regular MBA course provided by ITM & Souther New Hampshire Univ. They have 2 options EMBA(16 months-generic with no specializations) and regular MBA weekend classes(2 yr course, can take a break in between & finish within 3yrs, has specializations like finance, operations, project mgmt etc). They conduct classroom sessions on sundays for 8 hrs for either of the courses. I am just not able to weigh it across the IIM E-programs offered by Hughes. Which could be better ?

Hello Everyone,

Reading thru the entire thread i find myself in a similar predicament like many others.

I overall have 10 + years of Experience in the IT Industry, currently planning to take up a MBA program, I am too looking at various options for Distance Learning or Online MBA.

I checked

http://www.itm.edu/eec/

http://www.hugheseducation.com/

http://www.scdl.net/

http://www.welingkaronline.org/Distance-Learning

Still looking through, experienced members can please suggest / recommend from their own finding.

If you are looking for International schools, it is very hard to judge from the Internet. Therefore, you should look at the list of best online MBA schools provided by Financial Times.

Remembered this thread because of this article: http://www.topmba.com/mba-programs/e...duate-profile#!

They have an error in the article, it is just MBA, not executive MBA.

Did you complete? It has been 3 years.

I got a call a few moments ago from Welingkar's a few moments ago.
This set me wondering if I should consider a DL course - PGDM in IT (for instance). The fee is Rs. 50000 for two years - so that is not an issue.

I have 11 years of pure IT experience working in varying environments (small to large) and hope to have my own venture a few years down the line.

There is nothing IT about MBA. In fact, it is nothing but marketing spin. MBA is a generalist business degree. The contents covered in MBA was true even 1000 years back.

Anybody with 10+ years of experience is ripe for a business degree. Go ahead and do it. But it doesn't have to be an IT flavoured MBA.

Hello Sir,

you have echoed my sentiments on this.

with 11 years of IT Exp in the kitty , I am at crossroads about which Degree to peruse.

A discussion I had with a friend from the same background has thrown up another option which is PMP (Project management Professional), roughly around the same cost, maybe slightly more if we have to give a 2nd attempt. It would purely depend on how once needs to shape their career ahead.

:OT - my wife is currently perusing MBA (Finance) from Welingkar's and she has finished the 1st year with distinction. I can definately say that Welingkar's quality of lectures and online facilities gets a :thumbs up

Well, I used the term "IT" quite loosely above. Now that I checked their site, I remembered what the lady recommended for me:

Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) with specialization in E-Business.
So, year one is same for everyone. The specialization for e-business is in the second year (Sem III and IV).

Semester III
• E-Commerce
• Data Communication, Networking and Web Technology
• IT Infrastructure
• Managing IT Projects
• IT Security
• Business Analysis

Semester IV
• Enterprise Solutions-ERP, SAP, CRM
• Business Process Outsourcing (BPO)
• IT Compliances
• The Blue Ocean Strategy
• Project

But, yes that is still not a degree.

Well, PMP is very focused on project management, as I understand. I somehow feel a broad coverage is better than a deep one from business perspective.

The other option, if PMP were in your radar, is to have industry specific certifications/ learnings. But that is topic for another thread.

I am glad to know that Welingkar's is getting a positive review from your wife.

Hello Sir,

this is exactly the info i received from their sales lead when he came to collect the payment for my wife's course.

their brochure is also extremely exhaustive with an option of Dual Specialization in the second year by paying Rs 25000/- extra (if think), that too is a good option to look for.

their brochure also has combinations mentioned like retail+operations, E-business+Operations etc etc

People who wondered about the quality of Heriot-Watt's MBA can be re-assured by this.

The Guardian has released their 2015 University Guide.

Heriot-Watt is ranked 4th in UK in Business, Management & Marketing courses. Just above London School of Economics. :)

Heriot-Watt is ranked 2nd in UK in Accounting & Finance.

Herior-Watt is ranked 8th in UK in Economics.

Overall, they are placed 13th in UK.

I recently joined a typical large service based IT MNC as a MCA fresher.

I was looking for some good universities in India which offer DL MBA Degree. I checked out with Symbiosis but they provide diploma and not certificate.

Next I checked with IGNOU and got to know that admission in IGNOU MBA requires 3 years of work experience. If someone can please confirm this.

Last I checked Amity University's DL MBA and they provide a degree.

I am confused which one to choose from.

PS - I have also appeared for regular MBA entrance exam of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Delhi and result will be out next week. I am confused whether I should be doing regular MBA by leaving my current company in which I have joined recently but couldnt get the profile/domain of my choice, though salary offered by the company is ok when compared to what is mostly offered in service based IT companies.

Guidance, counselling regarding my case will be highly appreciated.
