Guys, ever thought what is the real speed with which we travel on our over congested city roads?! We really get happy when we get to touch 50kmph on some stretches, but the real time taken to commute is really pathetic!

I just realized this when I saw my phone's gps dashboard summary, just have a look:
Average speed on our city roads!-scr000002.jpg

And most of this run has been on HSR Layout - Whitefield stretch, even with some fast stints on the ORR! Surprising, we don't really even get to touch 20kmph on an average!

What are your thoughts on this?!

relax, you have to account for signal stops, turns etc. Who told you you could/would/should maintain a high avg speed?

In Chennai, here're my timings. Since I don't have GPS to measure precisely, I've measured it approximately, as much as I can using the regular clock.
Distance - 31.8 Kms; Route taken - T.M.Voyal-Ambattur-Maduravoyal-Porur-Guindy-OMR-Taramani

Mode - 4 wheeler; Start time 15:45, End time 17:00 - 75 minutes; avg speed - 25.44
Mode - 2 wheeler; Start time 15:55, End time 16:40 - 50 minutes; avg speed - 38.16
Mode - 4 wheeler; Start time 06:45, End time 07:30 - 45 minutes; avg speed - 42.4
Mode - 2 wheeler; Start time 06:45, End time 07:25 - 40 minutes; avg speed - 47.7
Mode - 4 wheeler; Start time 03:30, End time 03:58 - 28 minutes; avg speed - 68

it's not about could/would/should maintain high speed, it's just an observation/realization that i shared. And signals, turns are part of your total commute time! It's just that how slow our pace of life has become in the big cities!

Bangalore had indeed the slowest average speed in India. NDTV did a survey sometime back and Bangalore was clocked at 16kmph, the lowest in India :)
