Default Re: Funny Incidents - Can happen only in India

An incident/discussion that I will remember for long time.
I was travelling in my car with colleagues and one of them had recently bought a XUV500 W10 variant. He is not very well versed on Automobiles as he wasn't even aware if his car was AWD or 2WD. Let's name him person A. There is another Person B in my car who is a Mechanical Engineer. And here goes the discussion:

Person A: I recently bought XUV 500 and is great though I hardly drive.
Me: Which variant?
Person A: top of the line W10.
Me: Is it Automatic or AWD or 2WD?
Person A: I am not sure, it has gear and sales person told me this is the top spec.
Person B jumps in now: Wow that is fanatic car. I have driven XUV(hired through Zoom car) and has very good engine. Though I would like to drive W10 variant.
Person A: Oh what is the difference between W10 and the one you drove?
Person B: the one I drove is W6 and comes with only 6 cylinders. The W 10 comes with 10 and is something similar to the one's found in Bugatti. Its like 10 cylinders arranged in W shape.
Person A: wow nice, I did not know that.
Me:
Person A: There is normal W4 variant which comes with regular 4 cylinder, W6 has 6 and so on.
Me: From which college did you do your engineering and Masters?
Person B: XXXX college.
Me: Must be one of the best colleges

There one similar senior guy in my office who "seems to know" a lot about cars. He claims that XUV has V6 engine and so does the S-Cross 1.6 (he owns a 1.3 which is a V4 according to him).
From what I have seen, you try to correct such guys and they will be offended. So I try to agree whatever they say.

One cousin visiting from the USA looked at the lambo gallardo on my text book and says in front of the entire family "That car must give awesome mileage, its so small compared to the SUV in the background". As usual the ignorant family starts exclaiming how smart the "USA wala bachha" is.

Even today dad and me cant stop laughing whenever the topic of FE on a sports car comes up.

This is one instance which keeps coming back in my mind. I read it here in Team BHP itself few years back.

A member explained purported relationship between tyre pressure in psi (pound per square inch) and load carrying capacity of the tyre as how much square inch of the tyre surface is resting on the ground multiplied by tyre pressure. Lets say the tyre pressure is 30 psi and 10 sq inch of the tyre is in contact with the ground, so 30x10 = 300 pound per tyre is the load carrying capacity.

The reason this keeps coming back to me is how it makes logical sense but how much it is way off the mark. Or did I miss something?

Recently bought a Celerio AMT. Wife required practice. Asked her to check with Maruti's driving school if they have the automatic car as time constraints did not allow us to practice on our car. Maruti driving school chaps informed that they did not have the Automatic car however, the instructor was willing to operate the clutch and gears on trainee's behalf to provide the feel of an automatic car. Nevertheless, did not call them again (Goes without saying).

You have to at least give them for not saying no outright and trying to retain a customer ! Some quick thinking though

Default Quirky logic and funny comments from non-petrol head friends

A sales guy at the Hyundai showroom defended the low front passenger seat on the Tucson, said it was set low to enable the airbag to open better. :

I heard this gem from a colleague who recently purchased Hyundai Creta Automatic in Ahmedabad. He asked the SA, the reason for the spare being 16" while all other wheels in the car are of 17". The SA explained that after considerable usage the four wheels wear but the spare doesn't so it causes balancing issue. Therefore Hyundai has provided a spare of an inch smaller, and it's a safety feature. After for some time, I asked him to give the SA a medal.

Salesman : Sir, our Hector has speakers from BMW!
