Reducing tire pressure by 1 or 2 psi increases the contact patch on the road leading to better traction and control.

Over-inflation on the other hand can cause the tires to bounce on rough roads leading to an uncomfortable ride.

Hmm. Something I can identify with, since my Dad refers to the Baleno as "kettu vallam" (big boat), as he feels it is too big and thus tough to manouvre. By that rationale, the Camrys and Accords would be Titanics.

One I heard yesterday : " Swift dezire is a very comfortable car. You keep one glass of water on dashboard it wont spill even a drop"

From a BHPian: Safari is expensive to maintain because its an elephant- king of the road... elephants are royal (!!!!) & hence heavy on the pocket! Its an "exclusive SUV"!

so does that mean high maintainence in cars is a good thing? cool!

Car shopping gone wrong

From a cousin (Pursuing 1st Yr Engg in India. Did his schooling @ UAE) of mine who was shopping for a hatchback car.

Me: How did you finalize the cars?
Cousin: I filtered the cars based on the countries and brand. I want only German and Italian. VW and FIAT. FIAT more so because they own Ferrari. No Ford.
Me: hhhm Why no Ford?
Cousin: Once I played a video game. The Ford Focus handled so badly. If Ford can't design the car in the video game to handle properly, how can the real cars handle properly?
Me: 1.) Tata owns JLR. Vista has nothing to with them. FIAT owns Ferrari. But that doesn't mean you get a baby Ferrari in FIAT.
2.) Comparing a video game to real cars? Pls. give me a break

Ha Ha for bold part

but any way I don't think anyone can call Safari expensive to maintain when parts and service are so cheap compared to others.

FYI my Safari is lighter on my pocket then M800 , And no there are no series of parts replaced under warranty.Just got to know from other thread that painting charges at famed Sai Colorium are higher then at T.A.S.S and also Cheverolet spark fog lamps are costlier then Safari.

I would not like to believe that alternators are not designed keeping minimum requirement (Music System and Head Lights) of the vehicle in mind. RPM going up everytime you switch ON the light doesn't sound proper to me.

Enlighten us with any text you have on this matter.
Based on what I've read, let me try to explain the scenario where the engine RPM goes up when you turn on more and more electrical accessories in a car.

It only happens in cars with an ECU, basically the ECU detects the increase in the electrical power consumption and correspondingly directs the engine to increase its RPM so that the alternator can charge the batteries faster to make up for the extra load on the batteries.
This results in a very marginal higher fuel consumption as you increase the electrical load in car (having ECU).

This will not happen in older generation cars.

Dude ..you run a risk of tire bursts by having lower tirepressures...though 1-2 psi wouldnt matter much .
but lower tire pressures would mean higher fuel consumption and your tires heating up.

Anytime safer to keep 2-3 psi higher when on high speed highway drives.

Okay, How about this!!!

Heard from a friend ->

One of his friend had a bought a new car and he brought it to his office for people to see it. When he was chatting he heard heavy revving of his car, he rushed back to see one chap who took the keys from him was stomping the accelerator with the car in neutral.

So here goes the conversation:

-> dude, what are you doing with my car ?
I am checking
-> What ?
The Horse power dude
-> hummm!! Eh !!!

Can you beat that!

Cheers

Absolutely agree with the same. Underinflating tyres less than the recommended PSI is a very dangerous thing to do.

Contrary to popular belief, it is the underinflation of tyres that lead to tyre bursts rather than over inflation.

Underinflation will result in flexing of the tyre sidewalls esp during high speed runs and will result in enormous build up of heat and pressure which can cause a tyre burst.
So absolutely it should be atleast at recommended PSI or about 2-3 PSI higher as mentioned in the above post

I don't know about other places but here in AP, older generation people's concept of horse power is this. 100 cc = 1 BHP. So RX100, CD100, KB100, AX100 are all 1 BHP bikes. Enfield Bullet 350 is 3.5 BHP bike. Maruti 800 is 8 BHP car.

Next, I own a 4-cylinder bike, Honda CBX 750. The bike being naked, all the inline cylinders are visible. Imagine my irritation when guys ask me where I got the engine "modified". As though I welded extra 3 cylinders. Posing this question to a faired bike like R1 or CBR may make some sense as their 4 cylinders are not visible. But it is too much to ask of a naked bike. Also, most people refer to 4 cylinders as 4 "engines". And this one takes the cake. There was this guy who asked if the other 3 "engines" are spare or if they work in turn, one after the other. He wanted to know if there is a control switch by which I can select one "engine" over the others. Beat this.
