Great to see the intent in the batting. The slow and steady start approach no longer works in T20. Good to see intent from the beginning and the young guns taking up the mantle.

I will be surprised to see him in playing 11 against England itself, he is non deserving currently and I would be happy if selectors declare that they are resting Kohli for WC also.
Instead of resting, he should go back and play Ranji / Duleep / County cricket. Nobody got their form back from resting. You only do that by going back and piling up truckloads of runs.

Saurav Ganguly, the BCCI president was dropped in 2005 after playing for 13 years for india due to his bad form. Something about this is mentioned in the very first post of this thread. If Ganguly the captain can be dropped, Kohli is no different. He is a class player, he will be back. Getting up from slumps is how champions are born.

Re: The Cricket Thread

For the next two T20I's the following XI would seem to be a good team in my opinion

1. Rohit
2. Pant
3. Kohli
4. SKY
5. Hardik
6. Jadeja
7. Karthik
8. Harshal
9. Yuzi
10. Bumrah
11. Arshdeep/Avesh/Bhuvi

Remarkable turnaround by Hardik. From being out of the team due to injury, and losing his place in the team as a pure batsman he has come out of it by successfully winning his maiden IPL trophy as captain and now significantly contributing to the team's winning cause

If Kohli is replacing Hooda I'm an Eng supporter for the day or I can watch Vikram in hotstar using that data.

The other alternative would be to swap Hooda in place of Karthik which in my opinion is not a great one provided the experience that Dinesh Karthik brings to the table !

Re: The Cricket Thread

What shambles has Kohli become, he is not even a shadow of his former self. There are bad patches, there is rough patches and then there is Kohli. On top of this he has the audacity to ask to be rested for WI tour, Selectors need to grow balls and drop him now, he is not in scheme of T20 at all. We can keep waiting that he will come back in form and WC might slip off hands. It's a slot wasted right now.

Hooda must be thinking what the hell do i need to do more, then to be replaced by a non performer living in former glory days.

It's absolutely sad to see this, Kohli should be asked to go play Ranji and Mustahq ali and make his way back to team, this is now beyond ridicolous and Dravid hopefully puts his foot down now and act like he is coaching the team.

Re: The Cricket Thread

SKY scored 117 in 55 Balls, Rest of the team scored 72 of 65 balls. 9 Being extra.

Kohli Keeps failing, now he will take a well deserved break by skipping WI tour, must be tired doing all that Bhangra and flashing that smile, must have drained him.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Some of the shots SKY played yesterday were unbelievable. His lofted 6 over covers was absolutely majestic. Easily our best white ball player right now.

Kohli needs to be benched.

Umran Malik still needs domestic time and isn't ready for International scene.

Iyer can't play good pace and short balls. Can't be in team for World cup. Samson looks like a better option.

DK blows hot and cold and his keeping is worst among all WK options.

Damn we lost our winning streak. But need to experiment too so it's ok.

Re: The Cricket Thread

This will be my starting 11 for T20 WC in Australia

Starting 11
1. Rohit
2. KL (If he is fit)
3. SKY (360 degree player)
4. Pant (WK)
5. Pandya (2-D player!)
6. DK (Finisher!)
7. Jaddu (all rounder)
8. Harshal Patel (slow ball specialist)
9. Bhuvi (a.k.a BK! - swing specialist)
10. Bumrah (specialist in all - swing, bouncer, slow ball :-0)
11. Chahal (wrist spin is needed in Aussie land)

Reserves
1. Venki Iyer (2-D player :-))
2. Ravi Bishnoi (concussion substitute for Chahal :-))
3. Hooda (Reserve batsman)
4. Arshdeep Singh (reserve pace bowler and provides left arm variety)

Coach - Tracer Bullet Shastri! {Remember he was champion of champions in 1985 in Australia, treated Warne like net bowler while scoring double century in 1991 and won 2 test series in Australia as a coach out of which 1 series was won with India-B :-0)

I would rather go with a different approach:

R Sharma (c)
KL Rahul
SKY
S Samson
R Pant (wk)
H Pandya
R Jadeja
B Kumar
M Shami
J Bhumrah
Y Chahal
Reserves:
D Hooda
DK
Arsh Singh
A Patel

DK will need to play more consistently as a finisher in IT20s. Yesterday was his best opportunity to seal his place in the playing XI. But he seems to be more keen to play those cheeky shots. He is good at orthodox shots and should stick to it more.
S Iyer, U Malik, A Khan & R Bishnoi will need more domestic, non WC IT20s and county stints to become ready for WCs.

Coach: Ashish Nehra

Why do I still have doubts about DK? There is this nagging feeling that he may not be as effective as we think he will be.

And you guys think that Hooda is ready for Australia? I would rather have Samson in my team.

One thing is sure though. Umran Malik is undercooked. He needs to play domestic cricket for 2 seasons before hoping to succeed in the international game. What will really help is if he plays for a stronger team so that he plays more games, against better batsmen.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Yesterday’s match was a one man show, set up by SKY. Brilliant performance from him. For the T20 World Cup, if there is one certainty among positions 1-11, it has to be SKY at 4.

Kohli seems to be a divisive topic. I read online that Rohit said the team doesn’t care about what experts outside the team think tank says. It’s all noise to the team and that the team management will support class over current form. This basically means Kohli is un-droppable for the WC. Any chance of him getting dropped will have to be post WC, when the Indian team inevitably will have not won it. Also, I don’t think Dravid is the kind of guy who will go against the grain and drop Kohli.

I feel for guys like Hooda, Samson and others who are currently on the fringes and just can’t get into the team. The minute they don’t score, they will get dropped.

Indian cricket has sufficient talent to field 3 completely competent teams for each of the disciplines, but the board doesn’t have the will to take on some of the senior players.

I was in minority when I mentioned DK isn't good against better bowling attacks and bigger grounds. His major weakness is he doesn't know how to construct and innings if he is there in 11th-12th over. Plus his keeping is bad in comparison to Kishan and Pant.

Good points.
I had low hopes but seeing how India has suddenly decided to play aggressive cricket in T20 now they may reach semis atleast.

Hooda still needs to prove himself against better bowling attacks. But his recent form is really good and he should play in place of Iyer. Problem with Samson is he is way inconsistent.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Umran Malik needs a lot of domestic cricket under him. Just being fast doesnt help. No sure why he was pushed so much by the media. He will be wacked around like he was yesterday by these international teams.

Kohli should get his focus back. I feel he is trying to look cool by doing all his antics and its just backfiring. He needs to get back to domestic cricket as well and focus on scoring runs than dancing and abusing.

Feel sad for Hooda/Samson. Hooda should have played all the games.

Suryakumar was absolutely brilliant yesterday. That shot over point for a six was just too good.

Re: The Cricket Thread

If SKY fail to score in next 2 T20 matches I'm sure Kohli will take his place. This is the selection style of playing 11 for India. With this hierarchy nature I don't see India going beyond round robin stage in T20 world cup.
