Re: The Cricket Thread

England

If Ireland had caught well then they could have embarrassed them more. Malan did a Finch and England were caught napping with DLS score. What a win for Ireland and that too at MCG..

So heartwarming to see Ireland players celebrating with their fans.

All said and done, Australia is one lucky team. What a lifeline they've got with this.

Re: The Cricket Thread

To be frank it was pretty astonishing that only Ali, if we remove 7 runs by hales, managed to have a strike rate above 100 after 14 overs of england batting. In a chase where DL is likely to be applied, that is very poor planning.

With NZ game washed away now everyone is evenly balanced to qualify. Group 1 is really close.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Agree. England were inexplicable. The skies were very overcast for most part of the English innings - yet there was little intent displayed to keep pace with the D/L par score. Malan & Brook seemed to be trying the odd stroke or two - but did nothing unconventional to try to force the pace. In fact till Moeen arrived, they were so far behind the RRR, they were practically out of the game.

Well deserved, Ireland.

Re: The Cricket Thread

KL Rahul waiting to score 50 today to underperfom for the next couple of matches.

Hope R Sharma & R Dravid look beyond him and let Kohli open, SKY be played 1 down and play another batter between Pandya & DK.

Re: The Cricket Thread

By far, the most boring day this world cup. Hopefully, the Pak vs Zim match holds something interesting.

If KL gets back in the runs, not much for India to worry. Rohit got back in the runs today. Kohli and SKY are in some hot form. On the bowling front too, not much to worry about.

Only alarming thing is DK's keeping. The keeper is one of the most crucial people on the field. Two missed stumpings are unforgivable. Since it was a rather one-sided match, it may be overlooked.

PS: India have faced Netherlands twice in ODI world cups. Both times they made it to the finals and won the world cup once.

Re: The Cricket Thread

KL Rahul scoring runs is not the matter here. How quickly can we get those first 50-60 runs is the question in a T20 match. Rohit needs time to settle down and then start hitting. So does Rahul and Kohli. Only SKY can hit from the word go. We need a Prithvi Shaw opening with Rohit and Rahul dropped from T20 team. Rahul is a liability in the T20 team with his strike rate and his form. One aggressive opener is badly the need of the hour and our selectors, captain and coach seem to think otherwise.

Pant is a much better keeper than DK. Pant has to be in the team purely for his keeping in crucial matches.

BCCI implements pay equity policy for Women Cricketers

The Cricket Thread-20221027_173446.jpg

Quote:
Mr. Roger Binny, President, BCCI, said: “In our Apex Council meeting today, we have made a marquee decision on pay equity for our women cricketers. Our women players will be paid the same match fees as men in international cricket. This decision sets the platform to grow and develop cricket. I believe this is a significant step forward for women’s cricket and the game overall.”

Re: The Cricket Thread

If Captain and Coach have any brain they will drop KL next game and make Pant open. A 15 ball 25 from Pant will be good enough for a start. We made 32 in PP and that too against Netherlands. What will we do against better teams. Including Pant also solves our keeper problem as DK is quite bad.

Thanks for highlighting this.

Women's cricket in India needs every ounce of support it can get. BCCI's decision to bring in pay parity will go a long way in encouraging, bringing in and retaining talent. This is specially true for silent workhorses and non celebrity players who do not enjoy the perks of popularity, endorsements etc.

Having said that, we do expect our cricketing heroines to deliver more consistent and strong performances at home and abroad.

And BCCI should of course ensure that there are more matches scheduled every season.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Not only KL's form but DK's keeping mistakes means that Pant should definitely play.

Time for KL to "have a niggle", since the vice captain will not be dropped.

Re: The Cricket Thread

What a match again. Pakistan should be feeling really bad now. Great bowling by Zimbabwe and great pay back for the fake Pak Bean

I dont think India will make any changes to the winning combination. We waited for Kohli, now will wait for KL !

Re: The Cricket Thread

Nothing makes my day as Pak losing..and that too against Zimbabwe and this will ensure their exit from world cup. No way they can better India or SA unless rain creates havoc which I don't see happening.

What a match, what a win for Zimbabwe.

Re: The Cricket Thread

What a world cup its turning out - I thought England committed hara kiri against Ireland and now seeing Pak lose a thriller to Zimbabwe - just wow !

Pak had an overdependence on Babar & Rizwan - and its shown in both their matches so far - both times they failed in the powerplay and their batting struggled. Does it effectively mean a Pak exit from the WC - I'd like to believe so but this has been an unpredictable WC so far - so can't rule out any possibilities.
