Re: The Cricket Thread

If there is some match to show an example of how terrific ‘fielding’ can win a game, it’s this Pak vs Zimbabwe match. Not once did I see any Zimbabwe fielder give up a chase. They went after everything and saved so many runs and got themselves a very well earned victory.

And of course, Pak losing against any side is sweet.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Spectacular win for Zimbabwe! Last ball thrillers and Pakistan- a match made in heaven.

Sikander Raza is one of the most underrated players and IMO he is easily one of the best T20 all-rounders in the world at the moment.

Would love to see one with a different set of commentators too. Anyone?

Re: The Cricket Thread

If ever there was an example for a "snatching defeat from the jaws of victory" it was yesterday's match for Pakistan

What a victory for the Zimbabweans it was!

Some really exciting matches this world cup is throwing up

Re: The Cricket Thread

Well KL Rahul has once again done his part in ensuring we do not have a good start

All eyes now on Kohli. I think 160 should be a fighting total on this ground.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Wow SA bowlers are breathing FIRE, exposing the weakness of Indian batting lineup against pace & bounce. They have made us look like a gully cricket team. Our stars looked absolutely clueless. Half the team is already back in the pavilion. All eyes on SKY and DK now. Only ballers to follow post this pair.

Still hoping our guys can make a match out of this.

Edit: Brilliant 50 from SKY under pressure. No rash shots, pure class

Such a KLassy innings yet again. I'm sure he is going in right direction for advancing return tickets.

DK is very overrated as finisher! India missed the chance by not including Samson :(

It is high time, they should bring pant as opener and move KL Rahul to middle order, remember that wonderful 100 against West indies!

KL Rahul should play lower, may be 12th man or 13th. Kohli & Sharma to open, SKY, Pant, Hardik...

They did make a match out of it but the fielding led to the defeat IMHO. Dropped sitter of a catch by Kohli, missing direct hits by Sharma Ji. With such a low score these should have been taken and more. Bowlers did a decent job but we surely missed Bumrah’s pace. That was probably the difference between India and SA.

Few changes coming up for sure. DK would make way for Pant who will probably open with KL coming down the order. Ashwin might make way for Chahal. India needs to fix their batting order and fielding before entering the semis. Fingers crossed

Re: The Cricket Thread

Ashwin almost created a breakthrough from this pitch. It will be very hard on Ash if he is dropped as the pitch wasn't favouring Maharaj as well. Pant making into team in place of DK and Hooda can open if KL is such a breaking glass than a KLass. I surely missed Pant in place of DK in today's scenario. He could have been a difference in Perth kind of pitch. I think out of all pitches around the world Aus produces best pitch for any format. Big credit to them.

Re: The Cricket Thread

With no intent to hurt anyone, the victory against Pakistan was damn luck, if it was not Kohli, no other player could have won us that game.
Since our batsmen are not playing enough Ranji trophy matches, except SKY, others struggle against spinners. Somehow have a feeling that this may be Ashwin's last match.
Rohith has to take moral responsibility and make way for young players. If DK is considered as a finisher, Rohith should have opted to bowl first rather than setting a target. It will be a tough game against BD, if only Shami and Aarshdeep have to restrict and take wickets.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Why are people blaming Ashwin?

He didn't made Kohli drop a sitter of Markram which could have changed the whole match.
He didn't made batters bat like morons with no sense of responsibility (barring SKY)
Did he miss those run outs which even schoolboys can do effectively. Rohit had 3 stumps in view and from 5 feet he misses with all the time in the world to hit.
Did he select Hooda and waste a spot when a 4th genuine pacer could have been added on this Pace assisted pitch.

SA left out Shamsi and didn't bowled Maharaj for his quota cos everyone knew this pitch has 0 assistance for spinners. So,is it really Ash's fault his Captain is bowling him in the end when batsman will hit out of the park.

Our Captain keeps failing with the bat. His and Coach's selection are baffling. KL Rahul keeps getting selected when he has never done anything worthy in an important match against a good team. DK who has never done anything in any World cup still finds his way in team as finisher and behold, he fails again.

Our whole batting is Kohli and SKY. One of them fails and we can't even make 150. If both fails we may get out under 100. Why is Vikram Rathour our batting coach who has done nothing of note in white ball cricket and under whom batsman keep on failing without any improvement. And then he goes on in media claiming KL is our best bet as an opener. Come on.

Less said about fielding the better. Fielding coach should have been sacked months ago. They should learn something from Ireland how to field and defend an average score.

Against Bangladesh. Drop KL, make Pant open who atleast have the Intent and in Australia he usually does great. Drop hooda and bring Akshar back. And make these guys do some intense fielding drills cos today was pathetic.
