Re: The Cricket Thread

Well, KL seems to have finally found some form even though it is against Bangladesh, 50 off 31...Oops, put the mockers on him, he gets out next ball !

Re: The Cricket Thread

Even though I would have loved for him to carry on, some knock this from Rahul. This is the reason the managment kept backing him. He has given India a fantastic platform. India will be dissapointed if they get anything less than 175-180 from here.

And I might sound like a Rahul fan here, but Rohit too isn't in such good form either. And unlike Rahul, he wasn't in good form coming to this WC. So I find all this hate against Rahul absurd.

PS: No offence to Rohit, he is one of the best India has ever produced. But when someone is in bad form, you have to back them the way the managment has backed Rohit and Rahul.

And yeah, the selectors messed up again. Shreyas Iyer this T20 WC. Ambati Rayudu in the CWC19. And don't even ask about the 2021 T20 WC.

Has to be his fitness or fielding, can't think of any other reason! Though some of his more recent runs have come against Mizoram & Assam.

Why are Rohit and Rahul rested. If you want them to continue in Indian team then make them play all games.
Rohit should retire from T20s now & concentrate on ODIs & Tests. KL inspite of his inconsistent scores will probably keep his place in T20s but the question is how will anyone manage to play all 3 formats + IPL in this day & age. The selectors also need to make some tough calls, including that of Shikhar Dhawan who's strike rate hasn't been great in ODIs in last 1yr.

Shaw isn't a big name that the selectors will protect him! I'm really intrigued as to what it could be. Hopefully, this will be the last that we see of this particular selection committee.

Re: The Cricket Thread

So basically if the match rains out now, we are out of the world cup right?

At least with a full match I felt we were still in with a chance despite the start they got.

Well barring that one exceptional knock by Kohli against Pak, we have been pretty average in this tournament so far.

You can as well leave out the word death and still be summing up the sad truth.

With victories coming from the skin of their teeth, it would perhaps be better to award our players Man of the Moment trophies instead .

Re: The Cricket Thread

Lucky win.

The rain respite worked in our favour. Some brainless batting for 3-4 overs by Bangladesh (including Shakib).

Man of the match should have been KL Rahul. For the direct hit, if not for the 50.

Just about sraped through. Atleast these matches are not one-sided. A good match is better than a one-sided hammering by any team

Re: The Cricket Thread

It’s about time ICC kills the ODI format, no one is interested to watch it, it’s just dragging along.

Even when we were kids, dad used to tell me come watch last 10 overs.

An average team can also compete in T20, but won’t be able to keep up intensity for 50 overs, players themselves seem hardly interested to play in 50-50.

T20I and tests are the future of cricket.

Re: The Cricket Thread

That was indeed a lucky break.

Looking at India's bowling it looks like they are just waiting to be dismantled.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Lucky win. Bangladesh would've won if not for the rain.
Even though Rahul seems like found his form, it's concerning to see the way our openers are batting. Rohit is flying under the radar only because of Rahul's lack of form.
They should put more runs on the board in powerplay for sure. If boundaries are not coming as easy, atleast singles and doubles must be taken. Number of dotballs in powerplay is putting openers as well as the middle order under pressure. Also Rohit's fitness is a concern

Our bowlers may have to be at the mercy of Butler and Stokes if they run into England in the semi-final.

Re: The Cricket Thread

We didn't deserve to win this game.

Made 37 runs in batting powerplay.
Gave 60 runs in bowling powerplay.

This is against Bangladesh. We will meet either NZ or Eng in semis. They will smoke our bowling left and right. Our only hope is batting.

However, Rohit is absolutely useless in t20 since long. KL never performs against good teams in crucial matches. His slow start makes sure PP isn't utilized. If he plays he should bat at 5-6 and not open. Our whole batting is SKY and Kohli. And they alone can't give us 200 which we need against good teams. And what is DK still doing in the team. Rubbish keeping and no contribution with bat. Even Hardik hasn't done anything with bat since long.

Keep your expectations low as this team will disappoint. We got lucky due to rain and Bangladesh inexperience in chasing high scores.

There was some good bowling by Taskin yesterday, infact he finished his entire quota in that opening spell. Inspite of a slowish start in the powerplay India managed 180 which was slightly above par. I really don't mind a sluggish start by the openers, 40-45 runs in powerplay is acceptable! We do not have batting depth + we can ill afford a collapse in the power play since we are relying heavily on Virat & SKY. Litton Das played some high risk shots & put Bangladesh ahead, earlier in the tournament Finn Allen surprised the Aussies. KL & Rohit need to figure out their approach & take a call as to who's going to take that calculated risk since the pitches aren't exactly flat.

India scored 180 which was a very good score. Bowled much better after the rain break. Better team won eventually! Looking at the batting lineup of Bangladesh they were over-reliant on Litton Das.
