Re: The Cricket Thread

There are couple of accusations from the Bangladesh team and fans with respect to Umpiring. One is for play to be resumed in wet condition and now a fake fielding accusations against Kohli which was not caught by the umpires.

I did not see the match live so not sure if these (esp the fake fielding) was indeed true or is it a case of sour grapes.

I had seen this incident live. There was indeed an attempt by Kohli to fake a relay throw.

Fans keep finding excuses for poor performance. If you can't chase 85 runs in 9 overs with 10 wickets intact, you need to introspect. More than Bangladesh, it's the Pak fans who are salty. That said:
1. Even if the field was not in acceptable conditions, fielding side suffers more than the batting side (Shakib said the same in the post-match conference)
2. For fake fielding, no one noticed this during the match. Neither the umpires, or the batters or the commentators. It was a post match antic from Bangladesh players
They could have played better. It was their game to lose and lose they did.

Video is available here -

Definitely looks like he attempted something here. Whether he broke any rule or not, or whether it was Bangladesh players' antics or Kohli's, I won't judge that, will leave that to 'experts' to take a call.

Irony is that, just few days back after Pak match, I had mentioned -
"This is the Kohli I would want to see, 'the' Kohli with the bat talking. "
Looks like old habbits die hard

No, We were atleast 15-20 below par. Liton wasn't slogging, he was playing proper shots according to the pitch and this one was one of the flattest in tournament along with small boundaries. A team like England or NZ would have easily chased 184 or the revised target of 85 in 54 balls. Because Bangladesh don't have that batting quality or hitters we won, but just by 5 runs which shows how under par our score was in hindsight. We were 37 when PP ended. That's ridiculous by any standards. Can't rely on SKY and Kohli to bail us out everytime after a bad start. We got lucky with Liton slipping and Rahul hitting stumps which changes the momentum.

As per the law if fake fielding hinders the run taking ability of batsman then there is a penalty of 5 runs given to batting team. In this Kohli doing the fake throw was no where near the batsman or hindered them in anyway to take runs. Hence no penalty will apply to him even if it was referred to the umpires. These all are classic case of sour grapes from Bangladesh team and fans. It was their match to lose after the brilliant Powerplay and they lost it cos no one tried to play sensibly after Liton.

I am waiting for SA to demolish Pak today so they can board their flights quickly

The average 1st innings score at the Adelaide Oval in the last 3yrs is around 160. I don't think we were in contention to reach anywhere close to 200! The pitch got better in the 2nd innings & there was hardly any swing after initial 2-3 overs + short square boundaries helped. This WT20 so far, Sydney has perhaps been the flattest pitch. On rest of the grounds there has been some help for the seamers.

Pakistan are lucky that they're not facing SA at Perth!

Not so sure about this, they have a pretty potent pace attack themselves, I think it would have been a wonderful contest. We missed out and out pace in that game, Umran just for that game would have been a sight to watch

Re: The Cricket Thread

Pak recovered beautifully after initial jolts, where as our batsmen just were going along, except SKY.

Rohit sharma is woefully out of form, he was shielded because KL rahul was even more worse, SF will be very tough for india, no matter who they face. We just don't have the right team this time.

Re: The Cricket Thread

What's interesting to note is that none of the teams have managed to deliver consistent performance and dominate in the Super-12s. All the 12 have played 4 games each(a few have been rained off) and India is the only team with 6 points. The team that peaks at the right time will have the best shot at the trophy. Once the teams reach semi-final stage, even a couple of brilliant individual performances can help their respective team lift the coveted trophy. I hope India can do it this time.

As unpredictable as it gets, when it comes to Pak. Just couldn’t believe the way they turned around with some absolutely clean, yet lusty hits in the last 8-9 overs. From 44-4, for them to make the score they did against SA was exactly what Pak is known for - being unpredictable. Some of the shots were a delight to watch.

Re: The Cricket Thread

What a hatrick by Little. Coincidentally I just started watching the game from that over itself and he took the hatrick. Both Neesham and Santner LBW were excellent balls. I wish these guys could play more with bigger teams for their growth.

I'm a side not will be quite funny if Afghanistan can beat Australia today with rumours of Finch missing the game.

Re: The Cricket Thread

To be frank, apart from our opening batting, I am not much worried about us being overwhelmed or underperforming much. Probably my expectations were less. Our bowling was holding well except for Bangladesh match. Litton Das played an exceptional innings. Sometimes we just have to appreciate that.

And every team has shown weakness. England folded against Ireland. Pak against Zimbabwe, only to play exceptionally against SA. Is there chance for improvement for us, of course yes. I would like to see a wrist spinner in the playing 11. Probably Pant in place of DK. Apart from that I don't see possibility of changes, especially as captain cannot be dropped and KL somehow got some runs.

PS: Just as I posted Afghanistan literally took on Aussies. If not for that Zampa over where they lost lost 3 wkts removing two settled batsmen, we might have seen another upset. And one of the wkts, the first one in that over, was a runout.

Re: The Cricket Thread

All said and done, this has been a closely fought world cup so far, helped in good effect by rain.

But it has seen so many upsets and is such a welcome change from the win toss win match world cup last time.

If england win against Sri Lanka tomorrow, it's curtains for Australia!

And that much tough for india, as things stands as of now, India will top the group.

So I hope lanka wins and india plays australia in SF, then we might have a better chance, with our brittle bowling attack, england will just be too much with the kind of batting they have.
