But the biggest joke of the day was the double centurion (Ishan Kishan) from last ODI being dropped for the mediocre KL Rahul rl:

It was Kohli's second century in successive innings, having hit a century against Bangladesh in December, when Kishan hit his double century.

Ranji Trophy 2022-23

Mumbai vs Assam

Prithvi Shaw smashes 379 of just 383 balls thus notching up the second highest individual score in Ranji Trophy history.

That's now 3 centuries in the last 4 ODI's.

Why wasn't SKY promoted given the good platform, either when Gill or Iyer were out?

A match that SL would like to forget in a hurry.

Winning margin of 317 and India set a new record in ODI for a win with largest margin of victory by runs.

When we are thrashing SL at home, breaking records for fun on the way, everything looks perfect for Indian cricket, but...;)

Lucky victory for team India today. Does anybody have any links to post match analysis from any of the reputed experts? I would love to see what they think. I loved some of those sky sports videos where Nasser Hussain, Mike Atherton analyze England matches and if there are any similar quality analysis for Indian games, I’d love to watch that.

Unfortunately, in India, no commentator/expert wants to "antagonise" current crop of players or the BCCI as they will miss out out on the gravy train. You have to look outside India or on YouTube for some insightful analysis. Jarrod Kimber for starters would be a great analyst to follow.

Gill scores 200. Ishan scores 200. What is Rohit and KL doing in Indian ODI setup? Shame on KL keeping a place in ODI & T20 team despite all his past performances. Rohit has to gracefully leave the team and KL should be shown the exit door. Rohit is nowhere near Kohli or Dhoni as a captain.

I think the ODI WC team pretty much selects itself barring injuries or drastic loss of form:-

Rohit
Gill
Virat
Shreyas
KL Rahul
Hardik
Jadeja
Shami
Kuldeep
Bumrah
Siraj

Only concern is lack of batting depth with Jadeja batting at no.7! Pant is ruled out for the entire year so the team management has to look after KL & hope he doesn't burnout by the time the WC starts. Umran provides pace in the middle overs but there's no place to fit him. Shardul has had decent figures in ODIs in last year & has that perceived batting prowess but again where do you fit him.

Do check KL's ODI figures in the middle order in past few years! I think he averages 50+. Sure drop him from T20s & perhaps Tests also but he's been surprisingly good in the middle order in ODIs. Usually when he bats at the top he's tentative & he can't seem to figure out which gear to bat in, but that isn't the case in the middle order. As far as Rohit is concerned his captaincy hasn't been very inspiring & one shouldn't really read too much into these results in bilateral tournaments. His fitness standards have dropped after being appointed Captain & as they say Captain has to lead from the front. No doubt he's been a phenomenal ODI player, just hope he recreates his magic one last time in the WC this year.

Currently it seems he is pretty much like KL Rahul. :Frustrati

Lord Thakur rules. India scrapes through by the skin of their teeth! Phew!

One last time for Ro in WC? I'm sorry but he is nowhere near his best and I'm sure we will lose this WC too if he occupies a spot. I think the corporates and money from IPL are keeping him in this squad. Time to think beyond him and Rahul as well. Both are captains of some local team earns them a place in 11? Kl is no more a match winner or a full time keeper. We have Ishan Kishan, Sanju, Pant and many such Dhonis in our India. 20 years down the line we are still planning to field a part time keeper? Things have changed from Nayan Mongia times.

Rohit hasn't got 100 since a while now but from whatever little I've seen he isn't looking out of sorts like how Kohli did past few years! Also, he hasn't played much ODI cricket since some time now. And if you do drop Rohit who captains the team? Yes, his captaincy hasn't been that great & his fitness standards have dropped but he's definitely not going through a bad patch with the bat.

KL has done reasonably well in the middle order in ODIs & him keeping wickets lends some flexibility to the batting order. Pant is out of action for a year, Samson unfortunately is also injured, Ishan Kishan tends to struggle in the middle order.

Seems like the perfect XI. But we need to have backup for every player. And my biggest concern is regarding Hardik. If he gets injured, you have to show faith in Jadeja to bat at 6 and Thakur/Chahar/Sundar/Axar at 7. I mean you can’t bring in a specialist batsman at that position and play with just five bowlers. If that happens, opposition is surely gonna target one or two bowlers badly and game will be over there itselft. Similar thing had happened in Asia Cup when Jadeja got injured. Apart from this, Kishan can be the backup for opener+wk, SKY for middle order, Chahal for spinner & Umran for pace attack. But as I said, for that 15th player in the squad, we really need a backup all rounder.

Hardik has a fragile body. In every game he sits out a few overs, either to rest or for the physio to do running repairs to his body! And there is no other seam bowling all-rounder in the country. For a Jadeja you have Washington Sundar & Axar as a backup but as we saw in T20 WC, Axar doesn't have the same class as Jadeja though he's improved a lot specially his big hitting. Don't think there is an issue with Jadeja's batting, its infact his bowling which isn't as effective in white ball format.

Sad to see that WI national cricket team is being diluted. Players to have to earn their bread though!

India blank New Zealand 3-0 in the ODI series and as a result top the ICC ODI team rankings list. Although I'm happy with the result, I'm happier seeing a bowler(Shardul) getting 'Man of the Match' award for a change!
