That's for sure, any hard fought game (not only cricket) would be compelling to watch for ardent fans. It's with the advent of 20-20 games the attention span has greatly reduced and cricket has undergone a massive change and not to forget the commercial success it has brought in, now ODI feels to be moving at a snail's pace. One off ODI match like yestrday, keeps it alive on ventilator. I believe, down the line ODI will be extinct (except World cup may be, like FIFA world cup) and BCCI/ICC will scrap it for good or just play bare minimum games to keep the format on depleted oxygen. We can already see that, 20-20's getting preference over ODI's.

T20 - Pure Entertainment
Test - Pure Cricket

ODI- Stuck between the two

Re: The Cricket Thread

ODIs are on their way out. Test cricket will somehow survive though the numbers will diminish. This is the era of T20s without an iota of doubt. I have watched all three formats in a stadium in the past 8 months, featuring India, and it's palpable that the tide is heavily in favour of the shortest format. This ODI WORLD CUP in India will determine the fate of this format going forward. If India does well by reaching the finals, ODIs would get a major impetus, otherwise the next world cup will be a disaster.
India is key to the future of Cricket, irrespective of the format. India does well, Cricket will thrive.

Retracing back from ODI retirement, Ben Stokes warming up for the ODI WC in some style with England's highest individual ODI score - 182 of 124 balls with a six hitting spree today.

The amount of money Nissan is spending on advertising like this, for a mediocre car in an extremely competitive segment, they may be better served by using the funds to spruce up its cabin ambiance. Or bring in new products.

On the contrary, in an extremely competitive segment, that's where advertising can make a difference. And associating with cricket or Bollywood are still the 2 main ways brands can make an impression in the Indian market. Don't know the numbers, but I'm guessing it's cheaper to advertise, even in a mainline event like this and try to revive sales, rather than invest in new car development/assembly line changes. (That's just a guess on my part.)

Brilliant chase by Sri Lanka. They almost messed it up, but survived. How lucky was that edged boundary

Re: The Cricket Thread

I expected Shardul Thakur to shore up some responsibility as the "all rounder" in the team yesterday. A bit more support to Axar and we would have won the match.

Re: The Cricket Thread

What a embarassing loss yesterday against Bangladesh. Current team management is trying to make a team of Batting all rounders, Shardul, Axar, Hardik. One good all rounder is all we need. Axar and Shardul are overrated IMO. We should focus on building a more balanced team instead of a All rounder team.

Re: The Cricket Thread

SKY is proving again and again that he is a T20 specialist & ODI isn’t his area. But somehow our management still believes he can replicate the T20 magic in ODIs. What was he doing yesterday? Sweep shot seems to be his only answer to spin.

Shardul thakur & Axar should have finished the chase yesterday but it was pretty irresponsible on Shardul’s part to get out the way he did.

Guess management desperately wants KL to be the Wicketkeeper Batsman for core team & hence we don’t see Ishan keeping wickets last few matches. I would have both in the team though, ishan has been reasonably consistent with the bat & is a good fielder(covered a lot of ground in yesterday’s match).

For finals and WC I hope we have the full strength pace battery (bumrah, siraj, shami) back with kuldeep & jadeja doing the spinner duties. Pandya is good as a 6th bowler.

My ideal team for WC would be :

Rohit, Gill, Kohli, Iyer, KL Rahul, Ishan, Hardik, Jadeja, Shami, Bumrah, Kuldeep.

Axar, Arshdeep, shardul etc can be reserve players.

With these many right handed batsmen, this will be a repeat of leftie seamers running through our lineup and making a mockery of it. Shardul and Shami and SKY were left wanting yesterday. Shardul was too expensive and did jack with the bat. The less said of SKY the better - he has zero game awareness for ODI and there is zero strike rotation. Luppa batting can carry you over only this much and you can be exposed in front of all.

Thought that Jadeja also got out playing a needless heave. Axar really shouldered some responsibility and almost saw the team home. Too bad it was not meant to be.

Kudos to the Bangladesh team for bowling well. A win against Indian in the Asia Cup after 11 years!

Only 4 bowlers? You missed to add Siraj. Both Iyer and Ishan cannot play in XI, only one of them would be included.

In fact Siraj is ahead of Shami.

One of Shami/Thakur/Axar based on need for batting depth or extra spinner.

2 of Rahul/Iyer/Kishan based on fitness and form.

The rest ideally should be unchanged barring injuries.
