Yeah my bad it should have been Siraj instead of Iyer. Siraj, Bumrah, Shami doing pace duties along with Pandya as 6th bowler and Jadeja, Kuldeep doing spin duty. That’s probably the best bowling lineup we can have considering current set of players.

Iyer/Ishan filling up the 5th batter position after Rohit, Gill, Kohli, KL & Pandya chipping in as the 6th, Jadeja 7th.

That's the ideal bowling lineup! Provided our batting lineup is firing on all cylinders. Right now barring the sole innings by Ishan against Pakistan, he's struggled to rotate strike in the middle order & his game is meant for batting higher up in the order which isn't possible. Jadeja has struggled in white ball batting for a while. So to makeup for these batting deficiencies, Team Management is forced to play Shardul/Axar at no.8 for perceived batting depth instead of Shami which weakens the bowling a bit. Yesterday Axar should have batted ahead of Jadeja, his batting has been underutilized by the Team Management.

They did miss an opportunity to send him in at the early fall of Rohit's wicket yesterday. After all he did score his double century against the same opposition in the recent past while opening.

He could have played a pinch hitter type of innings with most of the batting yet to follow.

There was no point of sending Ishan early as its highly unlikely he'll be batting at that position during the WC since that's the entire focus. Looking at the way Iyer is taking such a long time to recover & lack of game time, Team Management surely must be very worried! Similarly didn't see the sense of playing Tilak when he's not part of your plans in the WC. He's not even in the Squad!

I don't see us playing 3 fulltime seamers in Indian conditions. Especially when none of them can bat. Add Kuldeep Yadav to the mix it becomes a very long tail.

Most likely it would be Bumrah, Siraj/ Shami, Jadeja, Kuldeep , Axar/ Shardul and Pandya to handle the bowling.

Re: The Cricket Thread

If the team management sees Ishan as a long term no.5 and Rahul as a long term no.4, shouldn’t they have a reserve opener in the WC squad? Someone like Jaiswal or Dhawan maybe?

Re: The Cricket Thread

What a spell by Siraj (6/12 so far), Sri Lanka tottering on 34/7 in the Asia Cup final.

Edit:40/8 now, pathetic batting by Sri Lanka!

Re: The Cricket Thread

All out for 50. India manage to take revenge for coca cola champions trophy final in 2000 at Sharjah where we folded for 54 chasing 299.

What attrocious batting by Sri Lanka. Nothing to take away from Siraj though. Fantastic spell of bowling.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Sri Lanka is continuing to spoil my day today. I wished to see a final today, it appears I have to settle for gully cricket by them.
It is not appearing that a team is bowling to defend 50 runs.

But Thank God! Siraj and Bumrah made it look as if Mc Grath is bowling on a home ground.

India have been playing gully cricket too in this tournament.

Started with the first match against Pak, we enjoyed our full batting and then denied to give them their turn.

Washington Sundar must be complaining now. Such a long flight at short notice and he neither got his chance at batting or bowling.

Amazing spell by Siraj though.

Re: The Cricket Thread

This is why I was rooting for Afghans in the super 4. They would have atleast made me feel like a Sunday today. They should have sent Jadeja and Sundar to bat and asked them to play 25 overs

Re: The Cricket Thread

I am now watching the SA Vs Aus game. So much for a cup final, such a damp squib today.

What ever Siraj had for lunch today, please feed him twice as much during the world cup. What a day out he had today. Whew!

Re: The Cricket Thread

I hope we are not peaking too soon.

Key players against the home series v/s Australia should be rested. Or atleast, game time should be given to all irrespective of the performance of the players. This way no player will feel "rusted" in case some injury happens during WC matches.

Expect some dew at most of the Indian grounds during the WC period. When bowling second it greatly affects the spinners. And I think few of the matches might be affected by Rain as well.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Any idea why this particular world cup is being held during this part of the year. Usually it is during March/April or in May/June. The previous world cup in India was also held around March.
