Patidar had better numbers in the 'A' games, thats the reason he was selected in the Squad ahead of Sarfaraz. I guess we'll see another debutant in the next Test - Devdutt Paddikal if KL isn't fit! Jurel is a good find, love the way he plays his shots in the V ! I guess we definitely won't be seeing much of Patidar & KS Bharat after this.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Hats off to Jurel, Kuldeep, Akash and Siraj to drag that first innings and to cut down the deficit to just 46 runs. If ENG had more than 150 runs lead in the first innings, they would have reverted to bazball in the 3rd innings and even if they had scored 200, it would have been a winning target.

Also, media keep talking about how ENG had their moments in all the 3 losses. But the same can be said about IND loss in the first test. Imagine, if the scoreline was 4-0 (instead of 3-1) now, all the talks about bazball would have taken a different tone

Just found this link confirming the same.

Edit: Just realised they did not lose but they ended up drawing the series with newzealand in 2000. Hence the record is with India. Comment updated accordingly.
Yes, my mistake too, the figure of 28 is the most number of undefeated home series (not victorious). it includes drawn series as well.

Basically, from 1993-2008, Aus were unbeaten at home across 28 test series - drawing only with SA ('93), NZ ('01) and India ('03). of these 3 series, they lost only 2 matches - one against NZ in '93 and one against Ind in '03

Yes, 28 is the number for consecutive series unbeaten(include drawn series) at home, where as India has 17 series wins.

Edit : Saw the latest posts from both you now. So I am just repeating same.

Good win for India, Dhruv Jurel is a good find, very promising. He held his nerves and gave Shubman Gill good company to take us home. Shubman also curbed his shot making tendencies to play sensibly, important to have match awareness and tweak one’s approach, especially in Test cricket.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Judging by the videos of Pant training I will say he will be back to professional wicket keeping in few months. Now will his body allow wicket keeping in tests will be a thing to see. Even if Pant doesn't keeps he is a genuine specialist test batter who changes matches alone and that too in foreign conditions. Jurel can be the keeper.

Don't see Iyer making a comeback soon. Sarfraz failed in this game which happens but showed enough in last one to stay with the team. Kohli is an automatic selection but I am not sure of KL as a test batter. An average of 34 even after such a long time and with injuries plaguing him in last 2 years I believe he should stick to white ball game.

I hope we give padikkal a game at Dharamshala. Series is won, KL even if fit has 0 match practice recently so better to rest him for that too. Patidhar is done as a test batter. Need to find more players to strengthen bench strength so no harm trying him. Who knows we will unearth another test talent.

17 consecutive test series win at home. Don't see this getting broken and will increase only. Our only threats are Australia mainly and England sometimes. Rest all are steam rolled.

Should rest Siraj for last game. Akashdeep was quite good in first innings and will be better at Dharamshala. Along with Bumrah he can learn a few things from him.

Positives from this game-

Jaiswal continuing his great form.

Kuldeep with bat and ball.

Return of the foxy Ash Anna. I am amazed at how his brain works and how he keeps working on his bowling according to the pitch condition. Truly a legend.

Jurel, the batter with a steel temperament and crisis manager.

Gill, turning into a second innings specialist like VVS, showing maturity to play the situation.

Akashdeep as a pacer. Has the speed and line length to trouble top batters. Should be developed further.

Negatives-

Sarfraz doing great last game was really dodgy in this one. Maybe he needs clarity about his game play.

Patidhar clearly doesn't belongs at this test level.

Rohit needs to tighten his Captaincy. Can't give easy singles and let game slip away. Needs to try more things. Seems lost when a partnership develops.

Re: The Cricket Thread

My playing XI for the last Test

R Sharma
Y Jaiswal
S Gill
S Khan
D Padikkal
R Jadeja
A Patel
D Jurel (wk)
K Yadav
Akashdeep
J Bhumrah

With the series been won, Ashwin can be released and tend to his Mother. A champ like him need no more wickets to prove he is a legend.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Superb win by India. It was really good to see the come back in the first innings. Kuldeep playing 100+ balls where others struggled shows how much work he would have put in in his batting.
Jurel is a jewel, calm temperament. Doesnt come with any PR behind him. Automatic selection over Bharat for sure. Jurel should be in the team even after Pant makes his comeback.

I kind of feel, Bumrah might be rested for the last match as well, given that we have won the series, I may be wrong though.

Akash Deep consistently bowling 138-140kmph is a good company for Siraj and Bumrah.

I hope Mukesh and Patidar would have seen their last test match for a long time to come.

I don't think Ashwin would be rested, or he would ask for it unless there's an unavoidable reason. The next test would be his 100th, and he would be really keen to play, especially considering there are no test fixtures scheduled for India in the immediate future.

You are right.
No way he will miss his 100th test.
In all fairness I don't care much about last test now. Series is won which was my primary concern. Although a 4-1 will look great than a 3-2. Weather forcast isn't good for Dharamshala so we might not even get a full game.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Great win for India. Jurel is the worthy player of the match.

The only worrying part is that two spinners with almost no prior test match experience gave the Indian batters a tough time. Can’t imagine what would have happened if they had any experienced spinners.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Stokes gave the match away to India on the 3rd day of the test itself. He made a big mistake of over bowling the 2 spinners and and not asking Root to bowl a few overs. this made life easier for the batters and no wonder Jurel took full advantage of that.

Re: The Cricket Thread

I was surprised to see a bit of bad form from the visitors during the post-match awards when not one of them (Root, Anderson) turned up and all their awards were accepted by Stokes.
While awards ceremonies in India do tend to get long-winded what with meaningless awards being thrown about, at the end of the day, it is the sponsors' pound of flesh. Considering that it wasn't even a gruelling day of play (90 overs under a hot sun), like Rajkot, pretty surprising.

Re: The Cricket Thread

So the litmus test for Bazball was against top opponents like Australia and India. They failed to win the series and get the ashes back in their home conditions(although the rain affected game was going their way) and now against India they fell flat.
