Re: The Cricket Thread

Glad to see India win this match without Pujara, Rahane, Kohli, Bumrah, Shami, Rahul, Pant!

Re: The Cricket Thread

In his second match only, Jurel shined and got MOM award. He played just brilliantly and showed immense maturity which very few players has while playing with tail enders. On the other hand, all the hype created for S. Khan vanished in this match. He was looking very ordinary to be frank. Don't think he will last too long. Better we should give chance to Paddikal now. Also W. Sundar is another talent we have who is just sitting on bench for too long now.

I dont see a place for him in the test 11, barring an injury to Ashwin. Jadeja's backup is Axar.
For other formats, he himself has to take some of the blame. Very very injury prone and misses out as soon as he starts to play regularly. Hope he has a good IPL.

Have to feel bad for ishan kishan. He has performed most of the time he has got a chance. With jurel, kl rahul and pant coming back, his prospects look kind of bleak. I hope he has a great IPL and is selected for the t20 world cup

Ishan has only himself to blame, going by news reports, he was refusing to go back and play domestic cricket. Dravid has also hinted at something of the sort, without going into the details. Good for players like that to be reminded that in a country like ours, there's always a talented youngster waiting to take your place. Keep them on their toes. (Unless you're Hardik Pandya I guess, our search for a genuine all-rounder continues...)

Hardik, Iyer & Ishan Kishan start playing T20

With IPL starting in 3 weeks all three Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya have made it back to competitive cricket for Reliance. So convenient.

Re: The Cricket Thread

The lack of a consistent, lower order batting all rounder has been a problem for India in Tests. Hardik is injury prone, Shardul Thakur leaks runs (but manages good wicket breaks sometimes). I think this shouldn’t be a priority anymore, instead we could just bank on KL Rahul as a top order batsman + wicket keeper or Dhruv Jurel as the lower order wicket keeping batsman (pick one depending on who is available) and then figure out the bowling combination of pacers + spinners we need for each game. Maybe both can play since KL is a good top order batsman!

Yeah, and the Board will have no problem with it. After all, IPL is beginning in a few days time and Reliance is all that matters !!

And I keep wondering how they can block and hold the global cricket calendar to ransom for 2.5 months each year! Money and BCCI are synonymous and rest of the cricketing world, ICC and boards of other countries are helpless pawns in this game of dominance.

That's the power of Money and BCCI have deep pockets at the moment. All cricketing boards get the same amount of money at which their player is sold/traded at the auction. So, they keep mum about it. ECB did resist initially, till they also started to tow the line and eventually fell in love with IPL.

March/Apr/May is neither conducive to play cricket in either Northern hemisphere or Southern Hemisphere, due to unpredictable weather concerns. Only the one on the Losing side is PCB, when every board is minting money on behalf of Indian cricket.

Thats not correct actually, every Board gets 20% of the final bidding price of each player for releasing them and that money comes from the IPL central revenue pool. But nevertheless, agree with your views that it’s the BCCI which is running cricket across the world and that PCB is suffering for no fault of theirs because of a diktat from the GOI, which is rather harsh !

Shreyas Iyer will reportedly play the Ranji semis. Fingers crossed.

OTOH, I have no problems with players skipping test matches for IPL. Just that they should make it clear what their priorities are and should not expect automatic selection whenever they want. Plus no A-grade central contracts for them. If Rohit's statement yesterday means what everyone think it means - Shreyas & Ishan wont be picked in the red ball squad anytime soon. Unless Shreyas goes back to domestic red ball cricket.

And how I wish that the Big Bash &The Hundred had an India A team participating. That would be awesome.

England if anything have to blame their batsman for the Series loss! Crawley is the only one averaging above 40. Root & Pope have 1 big score to their name while Bairstow has been inconsistent, lets not even talk about Stokes. Most of the pitches were good & not rank turners. English spinners were bound to get wickets, credit to their Selectors for doing research & picking them as all of them were faster through the air something which brought them success last time through Panesar & Swann.

I wasn't facing buffering issue but a mismatch between audio and video. Means my audio was playing ahead of video which made it a terrible experience to watch on TV.

On phone there was no such different and audio/video were in sync. Anybody else faced this issue?

From what I know there is no such official diktat from GOI to not play certain elements. It's due to their than egoist PCB chairman that they are in this situation. serves them well !!
