Ideally they should not, if 8 batsman can't do it most probably 9th can't do it either. Bowling looks pretty weak though.

I am more concerned about batting rather than bowling. Since the expectation is that we will be playing on slow pitches, chahal and kuldeep should be able to handle it.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Really surprised that they dropped Rinku, who is been the best finisher we currently have. If he is dropped based on IPL, that’s really unfortunate.

I don’t think it’s because of IPL. They just cannot accommodate him in the 11. Will you sacrifice Pandya or Jadeja’s bowling for Rinku..don’t think so.
Only way he could have been had was with SKY gone, they’re obviously not going that way.

Re: The Cricket Thread

My only gripe is Rinku should have played over Dube. Rinku can do what Dube can and he can anchor too if quick wickets are down like he did in his 39 ball 70 in his last t20I for India. Dube with his cement feet will struggle against international quality bowling if quick wickets are down.

Anyways-
2 kinda teams they can play.

Jaiswal
Rohit
Kohli
SKY
Dube
Pant
Hardik
Axar/Jadeja
Kuldeep
Bumrah
Siraj-Arsh

Hardik and Dube can share 5th pacer quota.

2nd team.

Rohit
Kohli
Samson
SKY
Dube/Pant
Hardik
Axar
Jadeja/chahal
Kuldeep
Bumrah
Siraj/Arsh

2nd team obviously gives more bowling options and batting depth as well.

Pant has the advantage, he can play at 3,4,5,6,7 number.
Samson is only good at 3 or max 4. Let's see what the management comes up with.

Also Axar should start over Jadeja. Kuldeep should start over Chahal. I fully expect management to do the opposite

Re: The Cricket Thread

So Dube has been picked over Rinku for the former's spin bashing and perceived bowling ability. Just hope it doesn't turn out to be a "3D" blunder like 2019.

Re: The Cricket Thread

I guess Agarkar thought there will be an Impact Player rule for T20 WC so he can play Rinku by substituting someone else.

Re: The Cricket Thread

At least 4 batters and two bowlers picked are not in form. This is a team picked solely on the basis of names and reputations giving form a miss.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Both the world cup Captain and Vice captain from Mumbai quota have delivered fabulously today.

Rohit made 4 and Hardik a Golden duck

As usual ball moved a little bit and these flat track bullies have no idea how to tackle it.

Our chances at world cup looks bright already.

With the current form, ego and messed head, won't select HP even for my society team. He is detrimental to any team let alone Mumbai Indians.

The only silver lining in the T20 setup in the last 1 yr was Rinku Singh. More so because of his game awareness & finishing abilities. Unfortunately once it was decided that Virat & Rohit would have to be accommodated in the squad, someone had to miss out. Jaiswal I feel just about made it due to his recent 100 in the IPL.

I highly doubt he'll make it into the XI unless there are some injuries.

Thats a really dangerous proposition. India's 5th & 6th bowling option should be Jadeja & Hardik. I would play Axar ahead of Jadeja but I don't think the Management will do that.

Problem is India's best T20 batsman - SKY will be batting out of his at no.4 if Jaiswal,Rohit,Virat are our top 3. Pant has his limitations on the off side but most likely he'll walk in at no.5.

Samson most likely will be cooling his heels in the entire WT20 I feel which is again unfortunate but thats the price the team will pay for having both Rohit & Virat in the XI!

This according to me is the XI which will play most of the games based on how our management works (which may not be in the best interest of the T20 format!)

Rohit
Jaiswal
Virat
SKY
Pant
Hardik
Jadeja
Kuldeep
Arshdeep
Siraj
Bumrah

Yes, there is no batting depth. And from what I've seen the Management has been more comfortable playing 3 seamers rather than the extra spinner. I'm not considering Hardik as a seamer here.

Absolutely agreed.
And to top it he is made VC instead of a deserving Bumrah or even SKY who has done quite well in t20 in last 2 years atleast. What's hardik contribution in same period except for getting injured and being magically fit for IPL.

Plus his egoistic and selfish cricket thinking himself as the main character as always and throwing youngsters like Tilak under the bus in post match conferences when he is the biggest culprit in MI downfall this year. I have seriously started hating an Indian player and this has never happened before with me atleast.

I am afraid you are absolutely right. More or less this will be the line up. And we aren't even making semis with this line up let alone win the Cup.

Thankfully if reports are to be believed Fraser mcgurk won't be selected for Aussie world cup squad. That boy is a beast and out of form Warner will be their opener. In my opinion that's stupid from Bailey and Co. But then like India other boards too look at established stars as well. Cricket isn't cricket anymore. It's just a sale able marketing exercise.

Re: The Cricket Thread

MI languishing at 9th with Indian stars Rohit, Hardik, Bumrah and SKY

RCB languishing at 10 with Indian stars Virat and Siraj.

Clearly stardom doesn’t win you 20-20 matches. That’s almost 5/11 of playing XI, except bumrah who has been phenomenal.

Selectors should have gone with almost all new (2/3 exceptions may be like bumrah) team who will have the hunger to perform. Probably like U-19 concept for 20/20 WC, No player can repeat. This team looks like a dad-bod on caribbean trip.
